    Looks like you came back recharged and uneaten from vacation, it's been one great update after another! Can't tell you how much I love the explosion shots, I may have to install TAC for that reason alone...Duna I think is becoming everyone's favorite vacation spot after Minmus, the atmosphere is thin enough not to awaken the mighty beast of V-to-the-fourth-power turbulent convective heat transfer on capture.

    Sure--not planning to go super deep and meaningful on all six of them, but yes that worked very well in the other story and I should do that here. But first, something silly: Yeah, thought of this on vacation and just had to indulge myself. My first attempt at a song parody in another language, hope it wasn't too horrible.     Ha! Now you're giving me ideas...a Kerbal that quotes some kind of scripture the way Bob quotes General Orders? Maybe from some kind of pyramid cult... Yeah it's really annoying...IRL work I have had systems crap out due to ending up with an invalid number in software. We worked around it using a crazy thing called "non-volatile memory"--hopefully Squad can do the same someday Yup. And that's why that lime speech balloon isn't for everyone You can't have Flight or anyone else second-guessing your crew's decisions light-minutes from home. At this moment in Earth time, the Eve flotilla and Hummlebee are all in solar transit several weeks or months from their next maneuver. I'm doing some cleanup work around Kerbin, bringing home some asteroid ships that proved to be ineffective and wrangling a Class E with one that IS. May do an Interlude for one or both missions. So, any reader requests? Burning questions about Kerbfleet ships, personnel or organization that I could answer in comic form? - - - Updated - - -

    Great report, really valuable data! And disappointing...I could live with not being able to aerocapture from escape velocity, but once in an orbit it seems one should be able to aerobrake a stock ship around a stock planet using the stock heat shields and stock radiators.

    Yup. I started doing that myself after this incident--it entered the official regs as "Kerbfleet General Order 66".

    I wish I could tell you. I'm not even sure the Gilly miner did cross, one of the ships did go through Mun's SOI but I think it was the Evestation. As best as I can recall it was pretty far out, I was intending to miss the Mun entirely and was not happy when it intersected--I had been doing periapsis pumps due to the station's low TWR (single nuke, heavy ship) and after several iterations was finally ready--just as Mun moved in the way. Did the best radial burn I could to avoid getting pulled off course entirely. Anyway, then I went over to Hummlebee for a while and worked on the Ike landings. By the time I was done with that, all the Eve ships had cleared Kerbin SOI. The Gilly miner happened to be the first one I looked at, and it had NaN readings similar to (but I cannot swear identical to) the composite picture above. I tried to switch to other ships, they were all NaN as well, so I... well, we'll let the rest play out in the comic I may have a backup .sfs somewhere that shows the situation before the Kraken attack, will look for it later. ETA: Now that I think of it, that was what I got too when this happened--I certainly would have remembered if I was at the Altitude of the Beast. Again, sorry for any confusion due to that composite image.

BTW just re-read and noted that Bill (and I) just naturally said "towards Jool" when describing a direction further away from the sun than Duna. Poor ignored and lonely space potato Dres...

    Yup, I decided to depict THIS delightful situation in the comic ETA: Before anyone studies the above too closely looking for debugging clues, this is NOT an actual screenshot, it's a composite of my own screen and some 'Hell Kraken' images I found online. I did not take a shot when this actually happened, and really am not about to try and reproduce the event
