That makes a great deal of sense to me, and writing a story where Jeb's rank is "Centurion" does indeed help me push the militarism dial to 11... that moment where he pulled a knife on Bob comes to mind. Ah, Fleet Sarjint Ho, I remember him well

A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
A very good question, there are quite a few stories including mine existing somewhere on the slider bar between "factual mission report" and "completely made-up story". For appearance mods, the sky-box's the limit EVE, Scatterer, Texture Replacer for uniforms, I also use a decal mod called NEBULA. None of this affects gameplay in the least so you can use them all and still be doing a completely factual misson reports. Same with Kopernicus; unless you're using it to mis-represent physics (for example, your story takes place on Laythe but the Laythe in your game has no gravity because you want your story to be about magical jetpacking space fairies) you can still do a completely factual report using Kopernicus. But your question isn't really about what mods to use, it's how far we're willing to go to "cheat" in the interest of storytelling. Everyone will have a different set of personal guidelines, of course. For me, the Kerbfleet missions are with very few exceptions flown honestly without ALT-F12, part config editing, Hyperedit, etc. The one time I can recall using Hyperedit on a Fleet mission was when I needed a ship to launch from KSC2, and I edited it to the pad there. One major bit of "cheating" I do for storyline purposes is to tweak Texture Replacer so that any character can remove their helmet in vacuum. I do this for shots of "pressurized" bridges and other compartments inside big ships. This doesn't affect gameplay at all, of course. In the past, before the update made gameplay on a 800-part ship somewhat bearable, I shot many interior scenes on a "sound stage" version of the Intrepid, hyperedited to wherever it needed to be to get the crew facial reactions I needed... in a lazy orbit around Minmus for happy moments, and suborbital/exploding over Eve whenever I needed a look of abject terror. Non-Kerbfleet ships can and do get cheated all over the place. The Kerbulans aren't even always in the same savefile as the main Kerbfleet misison. I hyperedit them wherever they need to be, and take them out when I don't want them to be seen in mapviews. What's important for me, and the reasoning behind all of the above, is that I want to (1) fly real missions that readers know I executed using the same set of rules they're using. Whatever other shenanigans are going on in it, the Jool Odyssey story is an honest-to-goodness attempt at the Jool-5 Challenge. (2) within the boundaries of (1), embellish as needed to tell an entertaining story. -
Nope, not intentionally Simpsons, it's just a common way a lot of Americans (but not your Author) pronounce the word 'nuclear'. Do they? Kerbulans have Commanders, Sub-Commanders, Centurions, Legates and Sub-Legates. This "mirrors" Romulan ranks to some extent, which in turn echoes Roman ranks...so yeah that's why. Ask the Romulan Navy why they did it that way. Well, Kenlie Kermulan can't quite seem to grasp it... though someone with a little more "intelligence" might. (See what I did there?) Well, maybe not. First off, exactly one person on each side not named Kenlie has read a Kenlie story. Coincidentally (or not) both of these non-Kenlie people wear blue uniforms. Second, the Kenlies have always been able to see all the mirror characters, it's getting into their points-of-view that doesn't happen. This could explain how Kenlie Kermulan gets things so very wrong in his story about Samantha's mission; it's in a third person perspective, and so his understanding is limited to how he interprets what he sees and hears. We've seen Kenlie Kermulan POV in a Kenlie Kerman story before, which you may recall drove our poor Kenlie a little nuts. We haven't seen any stories yet that take advantage of the other connections, but maybe we will

Bob Kermulan concocts evil schemes with roughly the same frequency and intensity that our own Bob develops 'concerns', so I think you may be correct!

And here it is... the whole darned thing at once even, no interruptions or commercial breaks! ...and y'all can just chew on what that all means until I'm ready to start posting Chapter 13

...well this is strange, I'm trying to get a shot of a Kerbal on the ground walking towards the camera and can't do it. "W" makes the kerbal turn around and walk away, and "S" just makes her walk backwards. But I know I used to be able to do it because that's what I did for the shot of Tedus walking away from the crashed Dipperkraft. Did something change?

Certainly the first for one of my stories, or at least for one of my missions! Likely the mission will not be over when the next update drops, whenever that is. Depending on the timing, some hilarity could ensue. But of course I can't actually change over until all the crafts with their various mods work in the new version, we'll see.

Interlude teaser. Doesn't Sam look thrilled to be flying a Gliido instead of a Derpstar? Had to do a little maintenance as I had not launched a Gliido since 1.1. The small retractable landing gear are no longer suitable for a craft this size (30t on three wheels) so I had to upgrade to the medium gear. Fortunately the craft still looks cool with the bigger wheels, and you can't really tell from looking at my Euc3d model that it has the small ones.

I'm writing a story, just to see if i can do it.
Mister Dilsby replied to NSEP's topic in The Lounge
If you write, you're a writer. For writers who are writing things on the Forum, we do have a thread for writers to talk about writing. You can find a lot of the more active Forum fiction and "embellished" mission report creators there, along with links to their work. @KSK, a prolific and outstanding writer himself, maintains a Fan Works Library comprising links to both active an dormant story and story-like content. Hoping to see some of your stuff up on Fan Works or Mission Reports forum SoonTM -

The Qwammer requires a crew of three: one pilot, one engineer, one scientist. If you know how much I like callbacks, you can guess who's drawn the first two billets... And there's the third

Which moon, you ask? OK, no one did. But here's the answer! Hey, the comm satellite arrived! Woo hoo! Apparently that's how long it takes to get to Jool "at the speed of plot"... Anyway, that was Chapter 12, hope you liked it, and an Interlude is next!

Or it could be about "what mass do I need to add and what systems need to work together, in what ratios, to make the time infinite" That's what I did to put together a long-term solution for 12 Kerbals in my current Jool mission. Food stores, recyclers, fertilizer supplies, ISRU to replenish certain stocks and enough shipboard power to run it all. Wisely, most systems like @RoverDude's USI-LS are designed not to have closed-loop capability (at least for shipboard use), so we have to be clever little systems engineers (and use additional mods) if that's what we want. But even if my big ship can go five years between replenishments there are still time considerations. The landers don't carry any supplies at all, which means the ship has to move to each moon in the Jool system to support landings. And if anyone does get stuck on the surface, I need to send something down to rescue them--and for some moons (looking at you, Tylo!) there isn't a second lander capable of making the trip. This adds a lot to my gameplay, well beyond the simpler problem of packing enough dV and/or ISRU to get there and back. But that's not for everyone, and so I still wouldn't make it vanilla.

A Participant's Perspective on the Louisiana Flooding
Mister Dilsby replied to Geschosskopf's topic in The Lounge
All this happened while I was out of town last week; it was around yesterday I thought "hey, Geschosskopf must be waist deep in mulch rescuing people down there in le armpit" Thanks for keeping us up to date with these mission reports, glad you're safe and may FEMA be with you -
Whoo party on Laythe! So, is the entry fire streak part of Scatterer or another mod, or is it an effect you added? I admit I shopped in such a streak whenever I wanted kerbal on the ground to see a craft entering atmosphere, but would be cooler still to have it in-game
