  1. Lol. Am left wondering whether a post liberally peppered with profanity for the express purpose of letting the filter nerf words for comedic effect would be worthy of an infraction under 2.2g. I mean, it's literally the opposite of "attempting to skirt the language fiter"...
  2. Jim, if you're going to have @Kuzzter as a character you cannot give him that line and just leave it hanging there. It's like this Kuzzter of yours is a completely different kind of kerbal altogether! Or did I just pick the wrong week to give up drinking hydrazine?
  3. Good idea for a thread! My entry: a spacecraft carrier (there are several ships in an internal hangar bay for the various Joolian moons) landing on Pol for refueling. The landing zone is a 20m by 80m flat patch in a good mining zone; a crew came down earlier in one of the ship's boats to mark the boundary of the flat area with flags. It wasn't easy... the ship massed 650 tons at that point (fueled, it's over 1100) so the vernor thruster RCS system had very little effect. I also had to constantly change throttle settings on the belly engines to keep her balanced. Also I knew from experience that anything over a couple 1/10 of a meter per second landing velocity would shear off parts of the superstructure. But, the crew (and I) nailed it on the first try, just a few meters from the center of the zone marked by those flags.
  4. Very nice report and an absolutely adorable lander, great use of the venerable ROUND-8 fuel tank
  5. Rover is fixed! Had to delete the original and hyperedit a replacement. The new one seems to work OK though I have to quicksave constantly whenever it and the Intrepid are in the same physics bubble else one or the other sometimes gets kraken'd to nothingness. I don't think I am going to address that issue in the comic...as you'll see, I'm already doing enough damage to the walls So yeah, I decided to turn terrain scatter on. The spiky things just look too awesome for me not to! I had it off in 1.0.5 because of performance issues, but of course that's all in the past now that we're 'turbocharged' in 1.1. I only wish I'd thought to do it before the Intrepid landing, that would have made it look even more spectacular!
  6. Linus! Well--looking forward to seeing your explanation of the in-game saucers. Welcome back, hope you've healed up and are feeling good now.
  7. False dilemma; I think if you scroll up you'll find we reached a workable solution--I will provide a file that contains only the rovers in question and doesn't give my precious Kerbfleet secrets to the Forum.
  8. No probe, requires a driver--and the replacement one works fine! ...that is, if by "fine" we mean "it slides around uncontrollably because there is very little gravity on Pol, but does so in a way I would expect the game to work " So when I do get the save file assembled and uploaded, it will have both the replacement rover and the original on the landing site, with drivers in seats, and I will make sure the file loads in stock
  9. Yes, it is--working on some tests now with a duplicate rover (which, opposite of the original, drives but does not steer!) I will also make that persistent.sfs copy you recommended. Unfortunately I cannot upload any files from where I am right now but I will do it later. Thanks for your interest in this, @sal_vager, even if I can get it working with a hyperedited duplicate rover, I'll provide you that .sfs in the interest of science
  10. Yep, done that before--can Hyperedit a replacement as well (cheating to fix a glitch is not cheating at all!) Trouble is that while the rover on Pol steers but doesn't drive, the one I spawned on Kerbin drives but doesn't steer! Will keep working on it...
  11. I can't do that, would give away too much story ... maybe I can replicate the issue with a new file, will try.
  12. Any way out of this? I've checked settings, as far as I can tell the wheels are configured properly and have ground contact. "A" or "D" key makes them steer, "W" or "S" key makes motor indicator ramp up (as per below picture), but wheels don't spin and rover doesn't go. Install is modded slightly but I don't think any of those mods are affecting the present situation; rover is stock and in a stock situation. Worked fine in 1.1 driving on Minmus. Any ideas? ETA 27 July: Created a clean file with no Intrepid, Kerbulans or other spoilers. The rover Sarge is in is the original, it steers but does not go--as though the brakes are stuck on (and yes, I tried toggling them ) The rover Melbe is in is the replacement, it seems to work fine.
  13. Welcome back! You gave me an idea; check the OP for a link to the first post in Chapter 11, as well as a link to the complete Imgur album for the chapter. I'll add links for the other chapters when I have time.
  14. Well, this sucks: Sarge has been holding down the 'W' key for a while now and the rover doesn't move. He really, really wants to explore, especially since those strange spiky things suddenly popped up out of the ground for no apparent reason. I understand wheels might be bugged now--any ideas?
  15. Good stuff! Don't add it here though, you should start a new Mission Reports thread so we can all follow your ongoing mission
  16. PBS has some nice crew spaces; Intrepid's lab, habs and some of the parts for life support supplies come from there. And really, I wouldn't worry about "copying" my bridge designs, we're all using the same parts and there are only so many ways to lay out panels and chairs
  17. That makes perfect, perfect sense. Hopefully there are enough players out there who both, (1) have played enough hours to build a save borky enough for your purposes, and yet (2) have never used a part or planet mod which would invalidate said save for your purposes. I estimate the odds at... 2.5sigma unicorns
  18. Yeah, you weren't the only one! I spent more time 'hovering' and trying to translate on vernors than is reflected in the panels, but it really wasn't bad. The ol' girl handles pretty well for 650 tons! Thanks! I'm liking him more and more myself--of course he couldn't have done it without Val's expert direction, Bill handling thrust balance, and Dilsby managing some of the other tasks. I had considered Bob or Dilsby saying 'Captin, don't you think we need our best pilot for this?' upon which Val takes the helm herself-- but there's a bunch of things wrong with that. First, of course, that's not really the kind of leader she is--her goal is always to build up the crew. Second, I wouldn't want to give the impression that a ship like Intrepid gets flown by a single jock with a stick and a throttle (even if it's really just me with a mouse and keyboard) Third, I'd just spent twenty minutes running my checklist, sliding engine throttles and sloshing fuel around and I didn't have patience to make anyone change seats Oh yeah, that too
  19. Actually, that is exactly the piece of music that was going through my head while I was putting the scene together--really! In fact, 2:10 of the video is the exact moment when Kenlie gets the roll stable, the ship is hovering over the LZ, and Val orders the descent. Wow! I guess this proves that you can, indeed, commumicate sound with pictures and vice versa
  20. Shhh, not so loud--10k might hear you! I've been trying to sneak up on it...
  21. Well then, you both might find yourself trying to drag THIS one around The amazing thing isn't that I hit the LZ, five meters from dead center, with 5000 units of oxidant to spare, on the first attempt... the amazing thing is that I got all the screenshots in one take.
