  1. Yes, thanks for the heads-up! Fortunately we can take advantage of the fact this is a Weltraumflugshper... er, a spacecraft carrier. I'll likely scout the landing site first with a Gumdrop and/or the rover. That is, unless Jeb or Melbe jumps out an airlock and jetpacks to the surface before I can get the hangar doors open
  2. Maybe let's not speculate on ethnicity and especially religion based on how names sound to us, ok?
  3. Indeed! And we'll certainly explore that in future episodes Asked... ...and answered! Wait, you mean a Kerbulan... care about... another Kerbulan? Oh, now that's a good one! Oh, we're not letting Our Heroes off quite THAT easy! That was hilarious! xD
  4. Guilty as charged! Eh, well, I did know there was such a thing as Canada Day, I kind of knew it had passed, but it did not occur to me that it was a pyrotechnic opportunity. Really, in the aftermath of the North American leaders' red carpet power walk, I should have done better
  5. What a glorious burnup! And here I didn't think you Canadians celebrated the 4th of July
  6. Indeed! And if you can handle it, there's lots more about the Evil Kerbulan Empire in the next book, Kerbfleet: A Jool Odyssey, updating frequently at a Forum near you!
  7. I suppose for the same reason civilian airlines, merchant and cruise vessels do in our world; running a ship requires coordinated effort, lives are at stake, and so it's absolutely necessary for there to be a command structure that defines everyones' jobs and makes it clear who's in charge in a crisis.
  8. Well I sure ain't landing Intrepid on Tylo! We'll see how things look after Jool capture, but I'm leaning towards the further one so I can work outside-in. And he'll have a long time to wait, in the Skimmeroo, if we do work outside-inwards! Hey, great to have you back Blue! Oh, I'm sure there are others...and if Kerbfleet probes take on the personality of their programmers, as we've seen, can you imagine if one fell into Kerbulan hands? :shudder:
  9. Just to confirm, Sarge did get a promotion off-camera. I was going to do a whole thing where Val says he's been doing such a good job with the probes she's going to give him a field promotion, he freaks out because he thinks it'll be a commission to Looty and he doesn't want to be an officer, then everyone's happy because it's just a more senior NCO grade. But I decided that would all take too long, so here we are! Rocketry Sarjint is of course the Kerbfleet equivalent to a USMC Gunnery Sergeant. (No word on whether they'll start calling him 'Rocky'. I sure wouldn't!) And no, I am not adding it to the rank table in the Canon file, 'cause then I'd have to make up all the other NCO ranks which I am not going to do right now! And yes, the first scansat is away to Tylo! We have an intercept for polar orbit with reasonable dV to circularize. I'll probably launch the rest once Intrepid is safely in Jool orbit, or as the ship bears on the individual moons. Note that we are carrying only four scansats for five moons, but as we don't expect to do any mining on Laythe this should not be a problem--also, the ship itself carries an M700 scanner forward of the bridge pod. Next up, we should see Intrepid's Tylo flyby and capture to the Jool system--followed by a decision of where to bring the ship for refueling!
  10. And the Fleet was in a hurry. Using a 'properly' sized rocket would have taken a couple more years, at least. As it turns out though it was indeed a little big--about three thousand dV to spare. But why take chances when lives are at stake? Hohmann, schmomann--just kick down the door!
  11. Yes, it is. And in keeping with that trope, I rotated the ship towards the Jool system and "right-side-up" in order to take the picture. But come to think of it... do I really want to follow that trope? I could also play with it, subvert it or advert it! So many options!
  12. @Wildcat111 please be sure when you do a quote reply to remove videos and especially comic pages--otherwise the thread gets filled up with duplicates. It's just a thing i have, sorry. Thanks!
  13. Oh, he's probably just referencing the same source material as me Next time you see him though, ask if he reads the comic!
  14. KSS Intrepid spacecraft carrier, shown on the pad with its booster section. Ship is apparently massive enough for its local gravitational field to have bent the flagpole.
  15. Correct By the way, this thread has now passed Eve: Order Zero to become the second-most-viewed thread in all of Mission Reports! It's also the most-replied thread, by a sizable margin. (Mostly because I've written a few hundred pages and we're STILL not at Jool, but anyways...) Woo hoo! Thanks everybody for those clicks and eyeballs!
  16. Not intending to be quite so mysterious Here's a better look at the payload from an earlier 'simulation': Probe will separate from the last LV-N stage once in Jool orbit. It has RCS, an RTG, batteries, and lots of antennae
  17. ...I might be taking the kids. Have not heard anything about a SQUAD presence there.
  18. Definitely one of the top land-a-giant-ship-called-Intrepid-on-Minmus-and-do-mining moments of all time! Also loved the 'kerb on a stick' desert launch, and dialogue between the mining engineer and the 'pilot'
  19. Hey Wildcat, I like your location (CV-6) very much We may yet see KV-6 again in the comic, so keep reading! Joolcomm Express is on the way! No cheats used, no windows planned--we are 'kicking down the door' with 16,000 m/s delta V on the pad. Basically I got it in Kerbin orbit and burned prograde/radial until its trajectory lined up where I wanted it--that burn alone was over 5 km/s. So, when will the Joolcomm arrive? And what about Intrepid... and Despair? We'll find out! Next update (or maybe the one after), the Intrepid enters Jool SOI!
  20. So much great stuff! But I have to admit, I liked the scaffolding at the pyramid the best
