The Saga of Emiko Station - Complete
Mister Dilsby replied to Just Jim's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Well said! -
Actually, if I had video software I actually knew how to use, I've always wanted to do a sort of "opening credits" sequence of Intrepid launching, flying past the camera, ships slowly entering/leaving the bays as the music swells (I'd probably use the theme from ST: Voyager--which is after all an Intrepid-class starship).. Maybe one of these days Certainly fair statements. I'm going from memory here*, but I believe Tedus's documented landings include: In a Gliido with Bob on Kerbin. Result: Desert crash, 'walked away' In the Dipperkraft with Bob on Eve. Result: Famously jettisoned science officer, crashed, walked away like a badS. In a Gliido, shuttling Val and others back to Kerbin after the Eve mission. Result: Lampshade hung, perfect runway landing. In a prototype Laythe floatplane "X3", performing a buoyancy test with Clauselle. Result: perfect water landing, buoyancy test failure In addition we saw Tedus launch some sort of insane "super pogo" ship at the end of Order Zero, but never saw the landing. It crashed, everyone swum away. *ok I ended up looking them up Nope, there is no Tylo x6 in the Intrepid. If you review those early pages again you should find that Bill finally abandoned the tailsitter concept, taking Clauselle's advice to "go big or you will not get home". And so he developed the Longboat, which became the Quadhammer, which evolved to the Qwammer presently docked in Q-bay

113. Admitting you care about rep...especially if you already have a stupid amount of it. What?

A few points for Eve ascent: --Mammoths are great first stage engines. High thrust and acceptable Isp --Use aircraft landing wheels, they're much more robust than legs --Aerospikes are ideal upper stages --be able to discard entry/landing parts such as parachutes to save liftoff mass --surface refueling can help a LOT! You don't need to put kerbs in seats if you make a big enough ship and design it right. I got 5 crew to orbit in nice comfy cabins, with plenty of dV to spare

Actually, there are three aboard, all engineers: Looty Comder Bill Kerman, Sous-Leuti Clauselle Kerman, and... So yeah, I guess I couldn't ignore the 'red-shirted ensign' trope after all One would have to assume that pre-spaceflight Kerbals watched some kind of TV show that had that trope. Who knows, it could have even featured retired officers who served on a certain seagoing aircraft carrier? And wow it is SO much fun to fly craft in the Intrepid's hangar and out into space. Sure, it was pretty cool flying those Gumdrops aboard back in 1.0.5, but that was like watching a slideshow. Now we're really flying!

Hmm... I can't really say, can I? But I'd like to think that all 12 crew of the Intrepid have had a bit more character development than Enzin Ricky.

Well really, how could you not send Jeb? And even if you didn't send him, how could you prevent him from going? Have a great mission out of comms range, hope you get your update in but if not we will await your return to KRRAKC with great anticipation!
-
You're right, I think he has Sarge's color or Sarge has his. Will look into it

So, if you think you were waiting a long time for me to get to Jool--we're finally getting to the images I saw in my head a year ago when I first thought to do the mission this way. Next up, we launch some Gumdrops! And for those keeping score at home, so far we've launched one of two Jooldivers and two of four Scansats.

Oh yes, of course, but I was talking about Jupiter, not Jool--pointing out that the reason the 'surface' pressure of Jupiter is 1 atm is only because the position of the Jupiter's 'surface' is arbitrarily (and syllogistically) defined as being that place where the pressure is 1 atm.

Indeed! If the rest of Despair's crew follows Evil Val's orders, they're not going to interfere until Intrepid fires off at least a few more 'missiles'. Still, one has to wonder what this looks like to them given their scans of the ship on Minmus... Quite true. And if probes have an afterlife, it's in the data they upload back to the 'source'. Just looking it up now--apparently the 'surface' of Jupiter is defined to be the point at which pressure is 1 atm, because otherwise it would have none... or so people thought/think. I really wonder what the boundary between the gaseous atmosphere and the 'metallic liquid hydrogen' or whatever actually looks like!

You know, I read a report like this one... and then I go back to the threads that say "this game needs some kind of in-stock narrative because career mode sucks boring!"... and then I come back here and read about the joy a little imagination can bring to an endless expanse of 'cracked grey mud'... and then I smile a little wider.
-
Yeah, I wondered if the barometer was actually in MPa but nope, the wiki confirms only 15atm at the 'surface'. No wonder things can survive all the way down there. Personally I'd rather see Jool have a liquid metallic hydrogen surface, or whatever Juno discovers is really down there on Jupiter. Then put a truly ridiculous pressure on that surface and make anything that touches it freeze, then explode in flames, then freeze again. That can then become the basis of my next great Kerbfleet graphic novel, Jool: Order NOPE! I had actually bet my business partner one kerbuck that I could string you all along for at least thirty more chapters, but got sick of waiting and finally made the intercept Waah.

It seemed to hit zero, then bounce up to 250m before exploding. I had actually cut the 'chute by then, as it was taking forever to fall and I had to let my wife use the computer. Very happy with the design--everything worked great, and I had enough battery power to transmit all the data. I even got a second reading in on the atmosphere scanner! Moons were visible through the star field at the bottom. Very glad only the probe was destroyed and not the whole planet, or the savefile! I was watching pressure almost all the way down, reading topped out at around 1500kPa.

Q. Failing to renumber your entries when you get ninja'd in a 'list' thread.
-
17. Making the subject line of your question "Please help!" rather than something that gives a clue what the thread is about. 18. "I don't understand what the big deal is about role playing. Hey, wanna work for my company? @so-and-so is our sworn enemy!" 19. Poking the authors. ETA: ninja'd by @pincushionman, renumbering! And, 20. Pinging people in Forum Games without having the good manners to leave off the '@' tag.
-
Well, that was from the Intrepid's position and velocity at Jooldiver launch--your kilometrage may vary. You can use mine if you like, with Bill's compliments

...however, my fellow Dear Readers, this is not our license to expect an update every Saturday, or any Saturday. He'll post when he posts--do not poke the author! -
Yay! Really enjoyed that set of crafts, the report that went with them and ESPECIALLY to see you making comics again

we NEED level design
Mister Dilsby replied to galactictaco's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I filled in the tech tree a year ago, I haven't looked at a contract in months, and I'm still enjoying every minute I spend playing KSP. The challenge for me, which never ends, is in being able to design and fly missions that live up to the very high 'coolness factor' that my imagination demands. That said, I do agree with the comments that the game is missing a backstory--a reason for the Kerbals to have a space program, a narrative for why they want to explore, etc.--none of which Career Mode or the contract system comes close to providing. But for me this is a good thing, I'd hate for a 'stock' backstory to deny me the opportunity to make up my own stuff just as much as I'd hate losing the ability to design my own planes and rockets. -
I wish I were that smart! Nope, pure coincidence. The interludes happened either because those stories needed to get told, or because external events prevented me flying the mainline mission, or both
