JEM : Jool 5 - The Hard Way - Mission Complete!
Mister Dilsby replied to Starhawk's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Wow, great shots and a VERY nice intercept. If you don't mind me saying so, I think you're a strutty-eyed booster kerb! Yeah, this is how I do it, unless I'm bingo on mono. I'm not above giving it a few puffs in every direction just to see how it affects the periapsis. And that way even if I don't have enough mono to get it where I want, I can always turn in that direction and fire the main engine ONE time instead of hacking and starting over again and again. Jool system is somewhere I've never been, though i have Big Plans for a mission in 1.1. (or maybe 1.0.5) Really looking forward to seeing your plane over Laythe! -
Oh, but this is delicious! I can say this: there is not enough information in those four pages to answer your question definitively, Scotius... but there is more than enough to definitively say who did not... and I still don't think anyone has spotted the biggest clue

I don't think I should have to tell a KSP player the geometric difference between "arc" and "two unconnected points"

Heh. I'll admit, my esteemed colleague's excellent work did inspire me in a suspenseful direction. Thank you, ugly is exactly the look I was going for. Don't hold your breath... remember the amount of time that passed between when you first heard the phrase "Order Zero" and when someone actually said out loud what it meant? Yeah, this is that kind of an arc. So there are a lot of great comments, some of them are right and some of them are wrong. I'll keep my promise to let the pages stand on their own without explanation, except I will just dispel this one rumor: I most certainly did not do this to troll KMC and make the comments blow up his notifications. Sorry, KMC

Yes, just one of the many decorations your crew deserves for finishing the mission despite that long and impressive list of things that went wrong. I am always more impressed with successful missions that went wrong than those that went right. Yarely done, bravo!

Very nice, and I love the name of the ship!

Interlude part 2 of 3: Now I'm sure you have a lot of questions... none of which I'm going to answer But feel free to speculate wildly, I left you some good clues and I think someone will figure it all out.

*sigh* Very well. I reluctantly accept my rockstar status. Ha! No thanks, let's leave her in one piece for now. Only thing I might do is add rank insignia to her sleeve, but I need to do that myself to keep it consistent across the Fleet. (yes I am working on suits with Kerbfleet rank insignia--just need to figure out how I want to do the Air Service rank badges, and whether/how to use orange for the Core Four... unfortunately orange clashes horribly with most KF service branch colors.)

Recovering "hulks" from Mun
Mister Dilsby replied to Waxing_Kibbous's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If by that you meant to compliment me for using my time to create something awesome for your enjoyment, thank you. I'd put some radial decouplers on the fuel tank, attach some more fuel tanks to the decouplers, and build down from there. Then tie your boosters together with struts. This is my go-to configuration whenever I need to launch something that doesn't have an attachment node in the center, for example the Atmospherikdipperkraft with its aerospike engine: -
JEM : Jool 5 - The Hard Way - Mission Complete!
Mister Dilsby replied to Starhawk's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Very nice sequence of the ejection burn et al; I really like the concept of the forward mounted LV-N ring and the long long train of orange tanks. You could get anything to anywhere with that setup! One thing I'd really like to see is the collection of orbital arcs all those empty tanks are making:). Laythe ship design is also pretty sweet. I might have looked for a more "battlestar" way to carry it, but of course there's no real need for that kind of foolishness. Impressed you were able to balance torque well enough with it mounted crosswise like that. Finally I support your stockliness very much--yes it's stupid there's no good LF tank option for a rocket this size, but I personally find working within the constraints of stock parts to be very rewarding. On to Jool! And BTW Admiral Shirley called, she says you can use any Kerbfleet references you see fit to include, or no -
In that case...this one? (the Charles Lucy "sad Nelson") I'm really intrigued now. While searching I found this neat portrait of the Lord Admiral in modern uniform, haircut and equivalent decorations. Love the robot hand!

Thanks Danny! I do have French ancestry but did not grow up speaking it or being very French at all. Very glad you liked the song! I don't know what to tell you--I don't think an OP could stop people commenting on a thread even if he wanted to. Some might even say that the interaction between readers and with the author adds something to a work.. I dunno. But here's an idea; when you get the notification, ignore it unless the thread title has changed. I only change the thread title when I add new pages. Whoo! The great Rune is hooked! Thanks, I appreciate it. So I am working on the next part of the Interlude, but this one is going to take a little custom design work to pull it off. It's a teaser for a key element of a future story so (1) it's important and (2) I think you're gonna like it. Might take me a few days though. You've been notified. (sorry KMC )

Eve return possible in 1.0.4?
Mister Dilsby replied to CrashTestDanny's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I generally don't share craft until close of a book, and even then I can be pretty stingy Note that the M7 won't work without surface docking and some kind of towship, but sure I will likely share the lander when Eve: Order Zero finishes. -
Recovering "hulks" from Mun
Mister Dilsby replied to Waxing_Kibbous's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Too bad it's not on Minmus, you could just fling it into orbit. -
Those parts look really cool, especially with the Red Crown logo on the side. May look into that mod.

A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
The way to make anything interesting is to show people things they have never seen before: either in content (doing missions that are hard or rare) or presentation (showing it in a way that no one has seen). People read "First Flight" because they like to think about the details of all that happens behind the scenes, and prior to Day 0 Year 0. People read "Plan Kappa" because of the unique rules of the game that come from the Kerbin destruction deadline and time travel (and also because it's visually amazing) Apparently people also have reasons for reading my stuff. I think the first question you or anyone should ask who wants people to be interested in their story is, "what will readers see in my story that they will not see in their own game?" -

2.5t is just the right mass for a Hitchhiker Storage Container, so that's probably what you're dealing with. Several of the above solutions would work. I think SlithyTove's is particularly brillig, that's pretty close to what I'd try (though I would detach my rocket from the rover to get to munar orbit, rather that trying to gyre and gimble the whole thing all over the place). -
A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
Unfortunately the only real answer is "whichever one you write best". A good friend of mine is a published author. Her novels are all done in the style of a collection of back-and-forth letters, with occasional dialogue. I don't write well that way; if approaching the same subject I'd do it in close 3rd person of the main characters, because I think dialogue is one of my strengths. Others might do it in first person, or multiple POV first, etc. That said, based on how you posed the problem I wonder if journal form might work best for you. You pointed out the number of screenshots, and it sound to me like you want to create a travelogue of sorts. But if you were going for deeeeep characterization that might tot be the best form. TL;dr: Write the story you want to read, not the story you think we want to read. -

That's too bad. That's why I think it might be helpful and also more rewarding for you to start a discussion here with the others about what you're trying to do and whether it's working or not. Otherwise all anyone can tell you is how they'd write the story. If you want it to be your own story (only better), you have to be the most active participant in the critique -
Because as we all know, space is an ocean. Thank you for posting that reference, you're like the one-man Kerbfleet wiki Hey, kerbs like to talk But if the comments are too much, you can always go through the Imgur albums I post in the OP. Not that my rep is measurable either (congrats!) but is it not from the painting I sent you? BTW I considered rotating her right arm into her body so she'd have the complete Lord Nelson look, but decided I did not necessarily want to wrestle with Animation Suite every time she appeared.
