Kerbfleet officers might (allegedly) steal spaceships, commit mutiny, arson, jaywalking etc--but nobody drives drunk. That certainly would have gotten me closer--that, or F9 and a second try. What can I say, I like to live dangerously manually.

A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
A good-sized novel is typically in the 70,000 to 150,000 word range. But the first draft of that novel might be twice the word count; so much of the work of writing is in subtracting, tightening up, and quite often making a hard call to drop an entire plot line or character. This doesn't happen in 'emergent' writing--most of us who write here are essentially publishing our first drafts (I know I am!) So I am not surprised at all to see this sort of word count for First Flight and other works with novel-sized scope. I don't see how you could tell the story otherwise -
All right folks, whatever the so-called 'topic' of this thread is, I'm pretty sure it's not the effects of flourine on the human body...encouraging everyone to engage their personal SAS and steer in the general direction of the prograde marker. In tonight's Kerbfleet gameplay: Driving! Ore! Yay! Update tomorrow.

I have indeed carried liquid fuel (for a campstove), solid boosters (mfg. Estes company) and 'hydrazine' in that pack at one time or another. It's highly versatile. Turns out putting Dilsby on that ship with Jeb wasn't the worst idea in the world, eh?

Five pages... So I think it's safe to say that wherever the landing ends up, it's significantly more than 30km--making Mikki the winner! Mikki please PM me with your idea, and if it's "reasonable" I'll do it! Also, major shoutout to Parkaboy for giving me the missing link I needed to use Free IVA and get those shots of Jeb in the Mk1 cockpit! And I really tried to get closer. I really really did! But yeah, at 600 tons drag does not have a huge effect on the M7's momentum. If I'd sent Kranefly back to Gilly a second time I might have had enough fuel to slow down some more and get closer--but Dilsby called it correctly, we were bingo at that point and needed to shut down to save some for a (hopefully) happy landing. We'll get to that part (the actual landing) next time. Will the M7 be in few enough pieces to lift off again? Stay tuned and find out!

It is really heavy! Well fortunately the Dipperkraft is in an area where I don't need to be too precise--it's not on an island in the Explodium Sea, for example, nor is it in the only flat part of a mountain range. But I still do want to land it close, just for funsies Thank you! I do love what shows up in the visors sometimes, it always reminds me of the fact that the only image of Armstrong on the moon is in Aldrin's visor. I do sometimes try to position the actors to get a meaningful reflection in the visor, so yeah Nope--"to the wise man, a single word is sufficient". Thanks so much for organizing this! It will save me time that I can spend on moar comics Oh no, this is for real--no shenaningans, i am really going to do a powered landing of the M7 as close to Dipper as I can make it. Thanks! Too bad about your RAM issues, hopefully 1.1 will be the solution. Happy to hear the comic gave you some practical ideas. Sorry I must have Old Man disease or something--need help identifying if this is a parody of another song. Either way, brilliant stuff Mad one! Wouldn't that be a fantastic way to end the comic? Don't tempt me... Ha, yeah! It was indeed an ADK high peak, Sawtooth. Kuzz Jr and I made the climb with some friends. They're working on 46, we're not so serious about it but I think we're at 9 or 10 so far so at some point will probably just go and unlock the achievement If you do ever see me IRL you will know me by the cavalry hat, which of course I wear all the time. I don't do much in KSP that does not make it to the webcomic, but it's doing the comic that makes it extra fun for me, so we all win Half correct; I don't care if the M7 is empty when it lands, as the Hohmann transfer home is in about a year so there's plenty of time to refuel on the surface. I just want to make sure I have plenty of fuel for the descent, both to keep out of the "too fast too low explodey" zone and to get that nice precise landing within sight of the Dipperkraft!

Everyone just stay frosty. I have the M7 where I want it but i don't like the fuel sit: going back to Gilly for more, maybe 2 trips. Update probable tomorrow, but not promised. Unlikely the M7 will land in the next update.

Sorry guys I was climbing a mountain yesterday. Have to get those peaks in while the weather is still good! Also Kranefly/M7 combo with the lander filled has a TWR pf 0.03, so positioning the ship for landing is taking a very long time...also lots of LF, I will probably have to send Kranefly back to Gilly for another load.

Yes. Every narrative choice an author makes is infinitely debatable; that's why there are so many different kinds of stories.

Hm, then I might go back and change it to something that does ring bells for people...as for the Dutch, yes please! What works best for me is tourist-grade stuff, maybe plus a couple Things Jeb Would Say. You guys are too kind So now that I've got them together we'll have to see how Tedus deals with being the third SRB alongside this kerbromantic reunion. They've got at least day to wait before they see the M7 streaking across the sky--longer if I run out of LF and have to send Kranefly back to Gilly for more. So when I do finally de-orbit the M7, anyone care to guess how close I can land it to the surface team? I'm going to aim straight for them, mind you... Billmobile missed by 25.6 km, partly because of no SAS, and partly because I didn't change inclination much coming in from Gilly (Dipperkraft crash site is about a degree north of the equator) Tell you what, let's make a game of it--winning guess gets to put something (WITHIN REASON!) in the comic.

Catchy, ain't it? I did indeed, it's Kerbal Animation Suite and it's a bit hard to use, but worth learning. Also it only works when a Kerbal is on surface EVA. I will probably only use it for really special occasions like this one.

Exactly. Though of course Jeb doesn't actually understand that French (or Frankais) is a distinct language, nor is Espankol, nor Karabic, etc--the only division in his mind is "foreign" and "not foreign" Though one wonders how he manages to form recognizable phrases in all of these languages at once, and why he seems to know a few words of everything except Frankais. Thank you! It's meant to be a 'thank you' in Hindi, though I am relying on Google Translate for that. The languages that use a non-Latin alphabet are tough to use here, though I myself want to be really 'culturally inclusive' and use as many as I can anyway Hey, if anyone speaks a language Jeb hasn't used yet and you want to send me a few random phrases, go for it! Just give it to me transliterated to Latin alphabet (with any accent marks) please so that everyone who reads the comic can sound it out. Thank you! We have perennial discussions on the Forum where some people argue that KSP isn't a complete game because there's no 'story'. Well, I like to think of myself as a modder in a way, an optional add-on story framework for the stock game experience. Whenever I see someone on another thread talking about Kerbals getting hammered on hydrazine, or having Bob express 'concerns', it makes me happy because I know I've helped someone enjoy the game a little more
