[1.8-1.12] TextureReplacer 4.5.3 (8.2.2022)
Mister Dilsby replied to shaw's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
That should work--but I guess I'm such a GIMP noob I don't know how to make those regions of the texture transparent Maybe if someone can point me to a texture .png that has a transparent part, or even post one that has those collar sections transparentized and I can copy/paste them onto mine? Thanks for the response! -
Goodness, that's two out of three things in your signature that've appeared in this comic so far. We must be of a similar wavelength (though I hear tinfoil blocks all such wavelengths very well ) Scotius / St. Mark Watney aside, Bill is very careful to only use his strange 'engineering' powers in cases where, (1) something can't be accomplished any other way (2) it's not cheating per my (Kuzzter's) personal criteria (3) it makes the story/game more fun, not less fun. So if Jeb needs to break the M7 free so he can crash land it at KSC2 and get back in the Fundstar? No force on heaven or Kerbin can stop Bill from doing it. (though note, he did NOT use any 'persistence warping' to exit the cabin and unlock the docking claw--there's nothing in the game to prevent that happening, keeping Bill in the cabin was purely self-imposed) But if there's no story-driven reason for Bill to escape his hastily-drawn bonds, then he stays in his seat to face justice. Bwahahahaaaa.. the posts are coming from... INSIDE YOUR HEAD!

Makes sense-- FWIW I used a ship with 7 mammoths (6 in the first stage, one center core) and an upper stage orbiter that had two aerospikes. That ship got five Kerbals comfortably to orbit--I got them to the surface and back by transferring from the orbiter cabins to a docked surface rover. (though I did cheat to move the science into the orbiter ) Looking forward to seeing you land your lifter--that's the really hard part these days

Keeping things moving while I build the courtroom set and play with textures. In related news, if anyone knows how to delete a feature like the helmet interface ring from a (helmetless) IVA suit please PM. You do know you can zoom in too, right? He'll definitely get a lawyer. But a serious one? That's asking too much Awww, thanks!

[1.8-1.12] TextureReplacer 4.5.3 (8.2.2022)
Mister Dilsby replied to shaw's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Working on making a movable, poseable Mort for a scene in my comic. It worked reasonably well to paste his suit into the IVA map. However, does anyone know an easy way to get rid of the helmet ring? (e.g. make it invisible, etc) Any help appreciated and you'll be making Kerbfleet comics better -- thanks! -
No reason it shouldn't. I should have said "your main save".
-
This happens to me sometimes. Here's something to try: restart KSP and begin a new game. Go in the VAB of the new game and confirm it works. Exit, go back to the start menu, and open your career save. If the VAB still doesn't work you have a corrupted craft somewhere. Move all your craft to another folder, repeat from the beginning (with the new game), and once you have a working VAB in your career save you can start bringing the ships back into it. Good luck!

A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
It does, but I wouldn't make a habit of sitting them down in a meeting to make that stuff come through. In a well-constructed story character, motivation, etc. should come out in every scene. - - - Updated - - - If you had the orangesuits in mind for the story, and you want to tell the story with those characters, you don't necessarily have to change. Your story might work with the familiar characters--your take on them doesn't have to be groundbreaking and unique (though something in your story should be) -- after all, this is fanfic we're talking about, and there is something of an accepted fanon for how the core four behave. But you do run the risk of it not being interesting because everyone has already seen those characters so many times, yes. The risk in using whitesuits is that since they're unfamiliar to readers, you really have to grab us with them right away or we'll not be able to tell them apart, and lose interest. I've seen stories fail in both ways, and succeed both ways, so good luck -
That's really neat--I like how you angled the LV-N through the COM. Very elegant!

JEM : Jool 5 - The Hard Way - Mission Complete!
Mister Dilsby replied to Starhawk's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Only one to go! That pile o' Kerbals reminds me a bit of some Gilly landings. Can you discuss the choice of a polar orbit a bit more? Is the basic idea just that you insert/eject without changing your Joolian orbital velocity significantly? -
Amazingly, the starboard one never came off at all--that's the one in front, behind Jeb in the lower panel (any landing you can run away from, whistling, is a DAMN good one!) The port engine is definitely off in both images, you can see it offset from the ship a bit. I've since recovered the contiguous parts of the M7, about 1200 science aboard, but then again it's just from one biome. Meanwhile, Jeb cools his heels in the brig waiting for a Gliido to come down with the rest of the team. He got 25xp for this trip and is now at *****! Definitely the most qualified pilot in the whole cell block!

Who would you say is the most Kerbal?
Mister Dilsby replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well, the trouble with an exercise like this is that there is not much of an established canon for these characters, as the only "official" characterizations we have to go on are some brief SQUAD videos and the gameplay itself. (which I love, because I get to write my own stories and not be wrong) You're the OP, so you get to define what is and isn't canon within this thread--but we all have our imaginings about who these wonderful little green beings are, and that's going to affect our choices. Wise of you indeed to accept that and count "a vote as a vote". Congrats on reaching 5000! -
You're not wrong... Good old Runway 09! Yep, I flew it home for real, no refuel. Fundstar could definitely circumnavigate, maybe 2x if I replaced the passenger cabin with fuel. BTW Jerrod's (non-canon) hair comes from me messing up the texture files and letting Admiral Shirley's head get attached to the default tourist body... or did he just go grey waiting?

So... does that mean I don't get to be Dilsby? -
Nice craft and a good, comprehensive report so far. So what made you go with those engines for the lander? Curious as to the engineering behind the scenes, as most Eve ships use some combination of Mammoths and Aerospikes (due to large thrust and high Isp, respectively) ETA: Also recommend this move to "Mission Reports" -- the Writing section is typically for KSP themed made-up stories e.g. fanfic.
-
No more bored than any other Kerbals stuck in a tin can while you forget about them and do other things. Yeah, that's it. Or maybe they played Fizzbin to pass the time? Not a cheat! Kranefly had the fuel and oxidant aboard, Bill just hacked a transfer to the M7's tanks. If you didn't see Bill open the persistence file then I didn't 'cheat' Also not stated: of course Bill had a back door built into the code in case Val used the prefix code.

Who would you say is the most Kerbal?
Mister Dilsby replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In my stories Val is a lot more than the female version of Jeb; she's the one who knows the rules, follows them, gets others to follow them by example and inspiration, and can STILL drop a ship from orbit wheels-down on Runway 9 each and every time. I nominate Red Iron Crown. Irrelevant whether RIC is male or female--I think this is about character not casting. -
A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
*sigh* Well, it's a bit hard to follow in a lot of ways. I lose track of who has which word balloon color. (I wonder if people do the same thing in my story sometime--so I do try to use the name-labeled portraits and have people call each other by name when I can) Also the plot doesn't really have a strong enough hook. Jeb has a master plan to explore space and Mort is against it... OK, a classic setup, I know because I used it. But what does it mean? What consequences does any of this have for the main characters? These aren't things you can just explain with a couple of words in a panel--you have to give your characters enough depth for them to stick in the readers' minds and then the readers will care about them as much as you do. And I know you're going to ask how to do all this, but I can't tell you. No one can. My recommendation is to simplify and focus your story on one or two--no, one key theme and build everything clearly around that. Once you see from reader feedback etc. that it's working, then maybe you're ready for something more complex. -
In-story, he had to release the klaw manually. In-gameplay, I was pretty confident I could land the M7 softly enough for the cockpit to survive, but I wasn't so sure about the crew cabin

I thought about just posting the first two pages of this update and letting you wonder... but anyway here's five. You're welcome Our world indeed, and welcome back to it! Hope that much is clear from this update "Opposition" indeed. Well, you should know by now that I'm not in the habit of wasting panels, or dialogue. (there, that should get the tinfoil hats back out...) Well that's been known to happen, but not in a good way... (see: Clauselle and the Space Beet) Next up, Jeb flies the Fundstar back to KSC1, we'll get everyone else from Kranefly down to the surface--and then we'll see if Admiral Shirley can sort it all out. It's trial time!

A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
Fanfiction is generally considered to fall under "fair use" when done not-for-profit and especially when the work is a parody. A key element is whether or not the fanfic competes with a product made by the copyright holder. I believe SQUAD does 'own' the forum posts, and you've already 'given it away' if you do post it here--but no chance they're going to publish a work of fiction posted here and try to profit from it. - - - Updated - - - It's good for an info dump, as you, Parkaboy and I have all done recently, but I wouldn't make it a regular occurrence. No one wants too many walls o' text in a graphic novel -
Just two today. Wanted more, but it's been a busy weekend.

Mister Dilsby replied to Starhawk's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Ah, there's no rendezvous like a bingo rendezvous. Well done! -
This bears repeating: Technically he did not. He merely defined the term for Mort's benefit: "Actually, when a commander steals his own ship..." is not the same as "I, the commander of this ship, have stolen it."
