Will KSP 2 be released to mobile?
razark replied to The quantum physicist's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I hope not. KSP is the sort of experience that would greatly suffer from being dumbed-down simply to run on mobile devices. -

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

A wooden ship is going to make noise. It would have moving parts that a modern ship does not. Ropes rubbing against wood, wood planks moving against wooden planks and frames, sail noise transmitted to the hull, in addition to the water moving against the hull. There was no reason to dampen the sounds at the time, so it was not an issue that was considered. There will be something on passive sonar. Depends on the sub skipper. Minimizing periscope signature is a vital part of submarine operation, so the 'scope is exposed for seconds at a time. In addition, a sail-era crew isn't going to be trained to look for a periscope or the feather it creates, much less recognize what it means if they do see it. I do not know exactly what you are referring to, as I haven't seen the movies. A sailing ship is going to make a lot of noise. It will be picked up on passive sonar. Whether the sub crew knows what to do with strange transient sounds is a completely different question, even if it doesn't get filtered out first, anyway. I think a competent skipper would be likely to investigate the source of the noise, unless his mission overrode the risk involved. Interesting question that I have not seen any info on. I know a number of wooden-hulled ships were used in WWII, so an investigation into patrol reports from the era might provide some insight. If anything later has been declassified, seek it out. -

They are outdated1. By the time a ship is in range to use them, missiles and aircraft would have long since dealt with any significant targets. The only ship-to-ship gun battles that are likely to occur today would be on the order of destroyer vs. small boat types of engagements. Basically, someone's being attacked by a boat small enough to make expending a missile too costly to justify, or too hard to hit with it. Any larger threats are going to be engaged at the missile/air support range, before guns reach effective distance. When the Iowas were brought back in the '80s, they were basically turned into missile boats, to the point that removing some of the heavy guns to add fixed-wing aircraft facilities was under consideration. To my knowledge, guns in the 5-inch (127mm) range are the high end of the range, anything larger being used for shore bombardment, and very few of those in service anyway. 1For naval combat. They've been outdated since the early 1940s for anything beside gunfire support. -
Antimatter Bombs VS Nuclear Bombs For Project Orion

In you OP, you just assume that A exists. If we're going to ignore <X arbitrary parts of reality>, why don't we just ignore <(X+1) arbitrary parts of reality>? -
How Hard Would It Be For A Billionaire To Develop/Launch Project Orion?
razark replied to Spacescifi's topic in The Lounge
Well, spaceflight itself was originally a government thing, but that doesn't seem to have stopped individuals with sufficient funds1 from joining the game. Granted, it is a barrier, but experience shows that barriers can be overcome. While this is true, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that no one actually bothered to get Elon Musk to sign those treaties. 1Where sufficient funds is an extremely high bar to pass. As long as you're not violating the laws of physics, anything is possible, given sufficient funding. -
Antimatter Bombs VS Nuclear Bombs For Project Orion
razark replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Everybody keeps pointing to the production/storage problems and ignores the fact that we've used scifi magic to handwave these away. I'd say that if we're going to ignore the reality of the issues: "Woo hoo, antimatter drives are a thing! Let's pretend they can make wormholes so we can have FTL travel to make interesting stories, too!". -
I'd have to go with U., None of the above. None of my favorite "youtubeers" is on the list.

My favorite modder is @razark. He's built a mod pack that fits my gaming style, and edited it to exactly what I want to play. However, he is a bit of a self-centered jackass, so take it for what it's worth.

Ksp 1 Vs Ksp 2 - Which Should I Buy?

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
razark replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
That's a cat, not a mouse. Mouses are smaller (but not by much). Seriously, though, the name depends on if it is male or female. I'm sure the cat would fine either "My lord" or "My lady" an appropriate form of address, depending. -

Instead of moving fuel with portals, why not just use the portals to transport people/things? -
I, for one, will be sticking with the stable 2.0.3 version. I haven't seen any reports that 2.1 actually fixed any major bugs.

As background music, I keep going back to: Throw in something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWoIljGEOQ4 in the background, and it's an entire atmosphere. I've looked up from the computer to be confused to see a sunny day out the window. I could have sworn it was a dark and stormy night... -
FSX:Steam Edition. If you catch it on sale, it's cheap. There's a whole world of add-ons for it, free or professionally done. If you don't care for the absolute latest graphics, it's fine (and how much detail can you really see from 20k feet and above?). Of course, it's going to be completely obsolete in a year, but so is everything else. Additionally, you don't need the latest computer for it, so you can save up and wait until FS2020 and KSP2 are released to upgrade.

A bug that fails to occur consistently can be the most infuriating thing to track down. -
When I went, we spent two half-days. I feel like I rushed through some parts of it, and I could easily have spent more time there. However, I was shepherding a pack of wild children, one of whom was somewhat bored. (He liked the exhibits you could walk through, but just looking at planes was not his thing.) Yeah, but I'm not sure what condition she's in right now.1 I know there was talk of hauling her off somewhere for repairs, and then finding her a new home. Catching all three in a single day would be quite a feat, though. Space Center Houston on one day, then the ships on a second might work. There's also Lone Star Flight Museum near JSC. I haven't been out there since they moved to Ellington Field, but I hear it's not a bad visit. My father said the individual displays were better than the ones at the USAF museum, but it's nowhere near as extensive a collection. 1Well, it looks like she's not taking visitors. Really makes me wish I had been paying more attention. It's been years since I've been out there. (That bored teenager was in a baby carrier. You ever try to climb a warship's ladders with a car seat?) https://communityimpact.com/houston/clear-lake-league-city-nassau-bay/parks-recreation/2019/08/08/battleship-texas-closes-to-public-aug-26/

Having been there a couple years ago, I'm not sure one day is enough time to take it all in. As a subsimer, there's the USS Cavalla down in Galveston. Not too far away, and how often do you get to visit a boat that sank an enemy aircraft carrier?
-
Yes, it's obviously dying. We never hear from the developers, they haven't released a new version recently, and even the modders refuse to make mods for it. No one is posting screenshots or craft files, no youtubers making videos of it. All clear signs that KSP2 is dying.

Balance of Terror was more based on the film The Enemy Below, about a US Destroyer/German u-boat battle. Very closely based on it. (With a bit of Run Silent, Run Deep thrown in.)

It's not my problem that you're not equipping your robots with sufficient ammunition. My robots wouldn't have a need to scavenge for supplies. -
The error in the question is assuming that there is any meaning to life.
