Because in March of 2013, people made some noises about an ambiguous wording in the license, Squad was generous and didn't fight it. They even gave people until the end of the next month to buy the game under the "Yeah, we'll let you have any DLC we do end up creating, even though you know it's not what we meant" agreement. It's not arbitrary. It's not early adopters. It's not a reward. It's a peace offering to avoid a user uprising from six years ago. Edit: Sorry if the tone of this comes off wrong. It's been explained many times, and I'm in the middle of cooking.

Kerbal Space Program DLC: “Breaking Gound” Grand Discussion Thread
razark replied to UomoCapra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I have to work tomorrow. My coworker took off Friday, Good Omens releases, Saturday is gaming night, and I've got the kids this weekend. It'll be Sunday before I get a chance to install, much less play, the new version. -
Is it possible to do a direct accent mission to the moon?
razark replied to VictoryNeverFail's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Is it possible? Of course it is. As long as it doesn't violate the laws of physics and you can get someone to fund it, anything is possible. Practical? That's a completely different question. -
Kerbal Space Program DLC: “Breaking Gound” Grand Discussion Thread

That depends on where you are. Usually no earlier than noon, I think, up to late afternoon. -
totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
razark replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
That just looks like the kind of place where you need to be more worried about seagulls than Falcons. -
Thread to discuss positive things in a general manner

I have tomatoes. The tomatoes from my father's garden are finally ripe, and since he's out of town, I have been picking the garden1. I brought more than seven pounds2 of ripe tomatoes home today, and there's three times that still ripening on the counter for me to pick from tomorrow. Fresh tomato sauces; bacon, lettuce, egg, and tomato sandwiches; tomato in salads; just plain tomatoes, eaten over the sink with a bit of salt and the juice dripping from your chin. And I forgot to get some basil while I was there... 1I am so very tired of green beans right now. At least those are almost done. And the cucumbers. And the corn. 2The scale only goes up to seven. -
How would you solve the rocket problem in your scifi?
razark replied to Spacescifi's topic in The Lounge
The fact is, my response would be the same in nearly all the threads. -
Why does my rocket flip in outer space?
razark replied to FilesUnknown's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Dunno if it's just me, but I'm not seeing any screenshots. If it's losing control outside of atmo, making sure your thrust vector is through your center of mass is what comes to my mind. -
How would you solve the rocket problem in your scifi?
razark replied to Spacescifi's topic in The Lounge
There's your answer. Throw on random bits of BS, and solve any problem you don't like the (real) answer to. It's science fiction. Whatever you need to make your story work is what you add. Why assume the laws of physics for one thing hold true, if you can just put in a convenient exit ramp anywhere you want? -

Next DLC will be the Last DLC?
razark replied to Mukita12's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I've never seen anything that said mod creators cannot sell their work. -
? You've put forth a description that fits a lot of aircraft. Anything more specific would be helpful.

Why have multiple rocket nozzles on scifi spaceships?
razark replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Because whoever was in charge of the artwork decided it looked cool. No other reason at all. -
Why not just send some guy with a jetpack to catch it by hand?

Awesome! Dots are definitely something to celebrate! Few are those that can boast of having so many dots! What do the dots mean, again?

On Apollo 11, Armstrong confused Mission Control by suddenly changing his callsign from Eagle to Tranquility Base once they landed. I think that any astronauts in the near future will refer to themselves however they want. What's MC going to do, just ignore them for lack of proper protocol?

From the emails I've seen at work, engineers and scientists are some of the worst at writing/spelling. I'm often quite appalled at the lack of care displayed by "professionals".

Action group editor and viewer
razark replied to schwank's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'm not sure about Alt, but Shift and Ctrl are used to control throttle, so they can't be used for action groups. I think Alt might be used for trim, so it could work with action groups. -
One of the purposes of the JSC Amateur Radio Club is actually to provide emergency backup communications with ISS (and previously Shuttle). It has acted in that capacity at least once during the Shuttle era.

No, adding a heatshield made it enter nose-first. -
KSP 2.0 why we need it and what it needs
razark replied to Renae's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I would just like to see Kerbal pilots be able to execute maneuver nodes. The higher the level, the better they do. Low level pilots repeatedly steer around the correct direction, and start/stop the burn at mostly the correct times. Mid-level pilots have greater precision tracking the burn direction and timing. Top-level pilots get the direction and timing almost precisely. Beyond that, I'm not sure. Perhaps some level of auto-landing could be possible, but I haven't put any thought into it.
