  1. Tomorrow morning, my father is stopping by with a rented van to pick up myself and my two youngest children. An hour and a half drive later, we're stopping to pick up my two eldest children from my ex-wife. Friday puts us at Mammoth Cave and Fort Knox. On Saturday, we'll drive and spend some time at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. On Sunday, we'll spend some more time at the NMofUSAF, and then head to the birthplace of HAL 9000 (also where my sister lives) at Urbana, Illinois. Monday, we'll be fighting the hordes of people heading south to the area of totality (Death to the evil Daystar! Death, I say! Hurrah for the wolf that devours the sun!). Gods forbid that it should be cloudy. Monday afternoon and Tuesday will be spent driving back to Houston. That's good. My kids' school district starts classes on the day of the eclipse. They've sent out notices that they have not only purchased enough viewing glasses to cover the district, but that they're not the fake ones. To any school-age kids that are stuck inside: Your future doesn't depend on school! Whatever they may try to do to you is worth it to see the sun disappear!
  2. It's been so long since I had to think about this stuff. My compiler says:
  3. But I missed out on all the hype I could have had. I created my own system for tracking missions in my games. It looks like this does a lot of that automatically. But it appears that I might have to redesign my tracking site soon.
  4. I am saddened that I am only now finding out about this. Looks awesome.
  5. Can the Event Cards be configured, beyond the "more severe effects" mentioned above? For example, can I go into the files and edit which ones are available?
  6. First: Awesome that you've taken this on! I've come to love the ability to change the navball. Second: The library is a great idea. I've actually been using another one that I haven't posted yet. Should we just post those to the thread, or would you like people to send them to you to help keep the thread clean?
  7. Yeah, that's a reason for hate. <looks at words> <looks at job> <looks back at words> <smirks>
  8. I hope so. The poor thing has suffered so much, it has earned its rest. Over the last half-decade, I've seen KSP declared dead so many times. They've called the family a few times, telling them the end was near. They've repeatedly had to get KSP's affairs in order for the end. A few times, they've even gone so far as to give KSP last rites. There was also that time they were just about to start the autopsy and KSP managed to recover for a few more versions. I mean, the poor thing's been declared gone and returned so many times, even the villains from slasher flicks are looking at and saying "Oh, come on! Are you kidding us?" It's time to just let it rest.
  9. I haven't had a summer break in over a decade.
  10. "We'd like to remind our passengers to make sure their carry-on luggage is properly stowed and their seat belts are securely fastened." "We also advise against attempting to use the lavatory at this time."
  11. As long as you can live with the loss of the touchscreen. I know my kids got used to seeing the cracks, but it really annoyed me. (But I get extremely annoyed if anything is in front of the screen. I can't disagree with you there. But if they feel free to grab your stuff and throw it around, asking them nicely to replace the screen is not going to work. How much effort are you ready to go through?
  12. What happens when you turn it on? If the screen is the only part damaged, the rest will work. (You should see the screens on my kids' laptops. It's amazing what can happen.) (Of course, it depends on what parts were damaged.) If the laptop seems to boot, but the screen doesn't work, try connecting it to an external monitor. If it doesn't boot, try and get the beep/blink codes. You might have a problem with RAM or other internal components/connectors being knocked loose. Beyond that, if you don't feel comfortable with a screwdriver and voided warranties (if it is still under warranty this damage might not be covered, but opening it up will void the warranty on further incidents) contact the company first, then take it to a qualified repair shop. Edit: If the whole thing is trashed, get a screwdriver and start tearing the thing apart. Examine the insides. Figure out what each bit is. I'll admit it sucks, but you can turn it into a learning experience. If the screen is the only damage, and you can't get it repaired for whatever reason, again, turn it into a learning experience. Connect it to an external monitor and use it that way. Connect it to a TV as an entertainment center. Load up emulators and run old games. Make recovery discs for it and have fun doing whatever with it. If you screw something up, wipe and reload. Having a machine you aren't afraid to break can be a freeing experience. Try different operating systems. Find an old copy of Windows or even DOS and turn it into a retro game machine. In short, treat it as an opportunity, and not a complete loss. I've got an old laptop here with a dead screen. I've got CentOS installed on it, and I use it for Linux practice. I've got a web server running on it, and I wrote a website to track my Kerbals and add RP to the game as an excuse to learn some web programming with PHP and mySQL. It's pretty useful to have a server with its own battery backup. (A power outage that proved a little too long for its aging battery hit last week, but it had an uptime of 1299 days, 23 hours and 1 minute. )
  13. That will not end well. You'll also need a robotics mod for Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
  14. I installed the demo for 11, but I couldn't quite figure it out. Still stuck with FSX. Is that stock graphics? Doesn't look too bad.
  15. Don't play with them? Don't let them on your game? Kick them if they do? Yes. I've played plenty of multiplayer games that didn't require a dedicated server. Just two or three or a small handful of computers on a network talking to each other, with one instance of the game being the server. You have a point with your repeated complaints iff multiplayer KSP were to use a MMO model. Drop the MMO, and all your problems can be trivialized. Do people not play modded multiplayer games? Of course they do. Timewarp and mods can be agreed to and enforced by the host settings. Trolls aren't a problem (and easily handled) if you're playing with a small group of known people; have you never played Monopoly with friends? The part count issue remains, but that's an issue even in a single player game. One possible mitigation would be a server rule limiting the part count of any single player-launched vessel. This would still cause problems for large assembled vessels. Bit humans are capable of making agreements for the benefit of both/multiple parties.
  16. Alpha is usually what I name my first station in a game.
  17. I thought I had seen a reference, but I overlooked it when I checked. I guess I'm just not a hoopy frood.
  18. I use Windows. I also have a habit of using the CLI to handle things whenever I can, since Windows thinks it knows what I want to do (it doesn't), and protects me from doing something dangerous (aka: what I want to accomplish).
