Dropping this in Suggestions and Development Discussion I for one think that the ability to customize the suit loadouts for your kerbonauts would add an interesting dimension to the game, though I probably wouldn't take it quite so far as T.C. is speculating on. I do like the idea of different loadouts having different specialties and tradeoffs to encourage players to use different ones in different situations would possibly encourage people to launch more multi-crew missions, for instance.

This leads me to conclude that the point of failure (I'm reluctant to call it a "fault," as it's a natural consequence of the way FAR is designed to change the way aerodynamics works) is a result of FAR's behavior. In the way stock aerodynamics works, drag is applied for every part on the craft regardless of whether it's in the airflow, while in FAR the cross-sectional area of the craft as it faces into the wind actually matters. The net effect is that more actual drag is applied in stock aerodynamics, which causes the craft to slow to terminal velocity much more quickly than in FAR -- which means less time for the craft to absorb shock heating from the extreme deceleration, and thus less heat absorbed by the craft overall. At least, such is my theory, assuming I'm properly understanding how FAR and DRE work together. I've got an install of KSP that has both DRE and FAR, and I can confirm that it's entirely possible to recover a craft from either a suborbital or an orbital flight safely with the stock settings. If you're going to be doing any more tinkering with the plugin code in the DRE configs, I've found this handy post where he explains what each of the parameters does and how they work together; it might help you make everything fit together. Hope this helps!

Welcome to the forums! Since you mentioned you've been having trouble with docking, might I recommend you check out some of the tutorials I've listed on the Drawing Board? (Link in my sig.) It's got a fair number of tutorials covering rendezvous and docking in different ways and from different perspectives. Perhaps you might find one of them useful.

Welcome to the forums! Glad to see we've got some royalty among us. Feel free to jump into Gameplay Questions and pass on some of the wisdom you've acquired on to anyone who needs help there. In general, make yourself at home.

Carrier Mode
Specialist290 replied to gigaboom2's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Welcome to the forums! Submarines technically fall under "Oceanic exploration," which is on the WNTS list; however, I believe core sampling drills should be fair game for discussion. -
Stay safe, kenbob. It's never fun getting caught in the middle of severe weather.
-
I'm sure the local news and media outlets are already on the job, kenbob.

Welcome to the forums! Feel free to ask around if you still need help with anything, or to give advice yourself to some of the newer users that might need help getting on your level. While I'm here, I might as well ask: Do you have any particularly harrowing or exciting missions you've done in the past that still stand out in your mind?

Welcome to the forums! Best of luck on your endeavors with your company. Hopefully we'll be able to see some of your favorite rocket designs there.

I do think that it's important that we have respect for our fellow human beings and their accomplishments, regardless of their place, time, or circumstances of birth. That said, discussions of which nations are obligated to whom for what degenerate into producing more heat than light more often than not, which is why we have a ban on discussing political issues here. We'll be closing this thread, then.

Welcome to the forums, and impressive work! A successful manned return from Eve is one of the most difficult missions a player can accomplish. That's quite a way to make a splash on the forums! For the record, you can embed Imgur albums into forum posts by taking the album identifier found in the URL (using one of your own, for example): http://imgur.com/a/aeIjd#0 And putting it in tags like so, minus the asterisks: [*imgur]aeIjd[*/imgur] Which should give you: EDIT: And I've gone ahead and fixed them in your post for you. Thought you might appreciate the knowledge for the future, though.

Hopefully our official tie-in literature will be much better, though Although Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole really know their stuff, at least. But this is a discussion for another thread.

Sigma Mission: Kerbol System Grand Tour!
Specialist290 replied to Stratzenblitz75's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Well, this is quite the introductory post. Nicely done! I like how you managed to make such a minimalist design perform an effective "Grand Tour." -
Hey guys Quick Question from a primitive modding community
Specialist290 replied to forgottenspore's topic in The Lounge
Welcome to the forums! I think you might get a bit more luck with your question if you ask around one of the Spore community forums. While we do have an active modding community here, from what I know of both games Spore seems to rely on a different mod-making process than KSP does. -
Obviously, the only way we'll ever resolve this discussion is by having someone getting the last word. Fortunately, I can resort to my Uber-HAXX Secret Moderator Powers to instantly shut down the discussion and claim victory myself But seriously, to address OP's question, as Kerbal Space Program is not primarily meant to be a competitive game, the only person you could possibly cheat (outside of user-submitted and user-regulated Challenges like those you'll see elsewhere on the forum) is yourself. As long as you're enjoying yourself, feel free to play using whatever tools or player aids you feel comfortable with. That being said, as this thread has obviously gone off the rails and its original topic can lead to rather heated discussions when it is seriously pondered, I'll be closing this thread now. Have a nice day

Indeed. I strongly suspect the iCNN submitter isn't really expecting anyone to take this seriously
-
No cranes in stock KSP, sadly. The Kerbal Attachment System has some parts that you could probably use to make one, though, like winches, electromagnets, and grapples.
-
Ooh, this looks like it could come in handy

I saw this one several months back (around the same time I started really getting into KSP, as a matter of fact) and found it quite enjoyable. I don't consider myself a huge anime fan as such, but I do keep my eye out for anything that stands out from the run-of-the-mill fare, and I wasn't disappointed with this one.

Bathosphere: How to sink ?
Specialist290 replied to Lohan2008's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Water physics is a bit wonky in general. I think most parts will simply float on the surface in stock. I know there used to be a mod for undersea exploration, but I don't remember what it's called now, since I never used it myself. -
Show off your awesome KSP pictures!

Just letting you know I've taken the liberty of merging this thread into our main screenshot showcase. Carry on -
Most Kerbal Looking Real Life Rockets
Specialist290 replied to mstrfalco's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Dropping this into the Science Labs, since it's discussing real-world rockets
