I personally rather enjoy the fact that the story takes a little time to unfold. It almost gives me a sense of experiencing the story in real time. From designing and building a carrier, to testing it and fuelling it, to getting the crew and support craft in place, and just a little drama on the long journey to the outer solar system - it's been quite a ride, and we've been travelling along with them out there.

@Archgeek So does it actually help to have the engines inside the structural fuselage? Sorry I didn't quite get whether it's worth it or not from your post. As for wings, remember that those little fins you're using can be placed on to each other as well.
-
Yup! Paused for 2 weeks for vacation.
-
As Kurt J Mac is so fond of saying, "It's not so much about the destination as about the journey there." And, @The_Rocketeer, even if you didn't get to orbit, yours were the coolest-looking crafts. That counts for something in my book even if it doesn't show up on the scoreboard.
-
@REAPER7, that is really great work! Did you manage to sustain level flight with the drone, and if so, what was your maximum altitude? Looks like you lost a lot of altitude after separating, but maybe that was to build up speed? I'm impressed at how high you managed to get the "helicopter"

He's using Gigantors
-
@Draconiator - wow, those large solar panels used to rip off with the wind! Amazing plane, well done!
-
Good job, @Draconiator! I'm looking forward to seeing how you can tweak your design so it works without infinite electricity. @MoeslyArmlis, Great work! The second video is sadly unwatchable on my tablet so I'll have a look when I have access to my computer. Did you manage to get sustained flight?
-
@Pds314 Although this is a stock only challenge, it's nice to see what you were able to do with F.A.R. Any chance you could try the same craft from the same location on a stock install?
-
I did a little work on this today and I discovered that stacking the mighty Basic Fin like @Archgeek did turned me into Dany2462. Did you have any trouble with those fins creating powerful craft-destroying phantom forces?
-
@wibou7 and @Ultimate Steve have just made history, and I've added links to their posts on the first page! Wonderful stuff. @MoeslyArmlis - I love the idea of the catapult, and I look forward to further progress reports with bated breath

Long-term Laythe Mission (pic heavy) - ^_^ With Part 45 ^_^
Deddly replied to Brotoro's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Hmm, sounds to me like your craft is based on the BirdDog quite loosely, in the way that the The Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust was based on a TVR. -
He didn't say that. Stelrine thought that before realising she, too, was going crazy.

By the way, how come none of us are making a fuss over what could possibly be the greatest revelation yet to come from the Kerbfleet universe? Eyelids!

That would definitely work for the Up, Up and Away category.
-
For the record, I don't actually know that as a fact. I haven't seen any figures for drag. If anyone knows of a chart we can look, please point it out for us.
-
@Starslinger999shhhh! We're supposed to all believe he is dead so that if he ever does appear again, we can be all surprised.

@The_Rocketeer That's fantastic. I think we're actually getting somewhere here. Don't the 1x6 panels have less drag, though?
-
Well, of course you can go ahead and do that, and it'll make an interesting project, for sure. But it's beyond the scope of this challenge, which is stock only.
-
@The_Rocketeer that makes yours the fastest ion ground vehicle that we know of. That's not insignificant
-
So you just place an engine directly onto the rear node of the other engine? That would reduce drag. Every little bit helps

I think it's clear from the latest pages that Lisa read Kenlie's story and immediately put 2 and 2 together. She was, after all, the one Kenlie talked to about looking at planets. My opinion is that she understands what is happening and is protecting Kenlie.

Well if it is possible, we are going to try our hardest to find out.
