  1. A skyhook arm is far from a simple structure. First off, even if you recycled every single piece of material we’ve put into orbit so far, I doubt it would account for more than 1% of the material required, along with the added burden, as mentioned, of establishing the capability to produce it in the first place. Secondly, it will need to be made of exotic materials, and by the time we’ve launched enough of this material and had cause to recycle it, it would have been far simpler to build an elevator/hook to start with.
  2. Let’s just hope they ground the mirror correctly...... they’ve been known to mess that up.
  3. I believe that was an option only for those who purchased the game prior to it being available on Steam. Check your KSP store account, there will be some indicator to this.
  4. Double check if you're interested, the timeline of that thread is pretty convoluted, with multiple merges and redirects. There exists, somewhere, at least one method of using the Steam console to obtain access to earlier versions. It's not complicated, but it's more than a few button clicks.
  5. Pretty sure somewhere in that thread is info on how to legally obtain beta versions through Steam if you have purchased the game.

  7. Multiple Starlink threads have been merged.
  8. I launched a Comm Satellite. It's not even worth a pic. What's notable about it is that it's the first time I played this KSP this year.... or last year. Yup, I didn't even boot up KSP last year. I forgot half the commands, and just launching to LKO on my first attempt felt good. Oh yeah, and a heavily modded game, the VAB was renamed to the "WHY ARE THERE SO MANY PARTS!? Building".
  9. Nah, anything without raw data from the game itself would be useless. The forums are a collection of players who would naturally do more than the average player, the data would be very skewed.
  10. It goes on sale often enough to make it worth getting it there. But those are about it. The community ended up making tools better suited for KSP (Kerbalx, Spacedock, CKAN) than what Steam could provide, and they did that long before Steam was fully integrated with KSP. I personally still have the option (last I checked at least) to migrate the game from the KSP store to Steam if I choose to, as I bought the game before it was even on Steam, but I have not yet decided to do so. I have never seen the advantage to put the game on Steam.
  11. It’s a very serious movie, but not about that. It’s one of those movies that gets a pass in my book for minor transgressions as it gets a lot of other things right.
  12. Wait a sec. In all my research, nothing indicates the Phalanx is suitable for anything faster or denser than an anti ship missile. The 18” inch (450mm) guns that reached deployment were tossing 1300kg Shells at almost Mach 3. Hitting one of these beasts with 20mm Gatling gun is the definition of using a pea shooter. Even if the phalanx could track the shells, and it’s not unreasonable to expect it to be able to, hitting the target won’t do a bit of good. Naval artillery is not a precision shot, it’s more like a shotgun from afar. They’ll launch a salvo of shots, and hope to catch the target in the middle of the spread. So even if we continually hit the target with CWIS, at best it’ll have some minor affect of the trajectory, equally likely to knock a long shot onto target as to knock a shot off target. And to be honest, given the short CWIS range and high speed of the shell, there won’t be enough rounds on target to actually make a difference. Unless you can point out some other sources that contradict this, no CWIS won’t stop a main naval artillery shell. But.... a battle ship would still lose to a modern cruiser or destroyer. It has BVR weapons like anti ship missiles that a battle ship would have difficulty dealing with. Even if their AA took them all out, the torpedos these cruisers/destroyers carry would destroy the battle ship as they are guided munitions and the battle ship has zero defense against a guided torpedo.
  13. I foresee an Evergreen-esque thread in the works. JWST, It’s stuck! It’s not stuck! Oh it’s stuck again! Ok it’s unstuck!
  14. With multiple different browsers on many different devices, the forum takes on many shapes and sizes. What in particular are you referring to?
