Radiator won't stay retracted
Gargamel replied to maddog59's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Mechjeb can do something like this too. In ascent and utilities it can be set to auto extend solar panels and radiators (I think). -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Gargamel replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Because, most of the time, real science is boring when portrayed on the screen. It also can increase production costs by a lot. It's much easier to film in 1g than .3g. All the actors movements would have to mimic this lower gravity, plus all the sfx that would be required to make it look right. Not many people understand a lot of the finer points of science, and so they choose to ignore them for better dramatic effect. Armegeddon is one of the worst movies ever made scientifically, but it's still a fun movie to watch, merely for the ride it goes on. They throw science out the window for the sake of entertainment. I can get behind those types of stories. Movies like Gravity, where they take science and twist it only a little and base the entire plot on this twist, takes me right out of the story. Yes it was a stunningly well made movie, but the story is bunk and annoys me. Stories that just accept a certain reality without trying to explain it, and it's plausible enough, might not be accurate or really doable, but they just go with it, those are the best ones. Things like Star Trek's warp core, or phaser pistols, while have been explained in canon based stuff later, you just accept that they work. -

Much Much higher. I used to have Hughesnet, which uses geostationary sats, and my ping just to the base station (Idaho I think, but it jumped around a bit) was 2000ms. Then there was the ping from there more time...

Paying For Propellant By The Gallon?
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
No... I'm saying if you pass an ice cube through a portal, and it comes out as water.. You've added energy to the ice. Where did this energy come from? It came from the portal, either one. How is the portal generating this energy? Why doesn't liquid get this energy increase? -
Nope. @Soesah?

Paying For Propellant By The Gallon?
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
You could, but I said "as we know it". It wouldn't be the same as RP-1, it'd be RP-1a or some such. -
Lets support Matt Lowne to go to the Space Base in Boca Chica!

Paying For Propellant By The Gallon?
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
As Glados put it, speedy thing in, speedy thing out. The fine print is that speedy must equal speedy. Can't have added energy can we? -
Paying For Propellant By The Gallon?
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Once of the reasons is that it's easy to obtain (refinery). It's petroleum based though, and that's a finite resource. It requires a planet that has had a substantial amount of biomass to decay into crude oil over the eons. Not many of those in our solar system, and if you're setting this in the future, then the availability of crude oil to make such stuff is probably going to be very very limited. RP-1, as we know it, should then be very expensive to obtain. -
As @Cheesecake mentioned, this thread has been moved to Tech Support Modded, and the suggested READ FIRST is a good place to start when requesting help. Telling us something isn't happening, then saying we need to do the research for you before responding doesn't really help us figure out the problem. We don't have access to your computer, so we have no idea what could be going on. We're not psychic.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That really depends on the material it's made in. Some material, like sand, collapses instantly. Rock may never collapse. I've seen people trapped in collapsed holes less than a couple meters deep. -
Yes.... apparently it was.... We'll fix that.

Unless you have multiple ground sites turned off. I do this to force me to set up a relay network so I can operate in LKO.
