For me personally I don't get it either. I do though get the idea of "beating it on ironman" being more prestigious than beating it normally. Until you realize that save files still exist and backing up is a thing and ... well ... yeah there you go. Either way it comes down to self control.
-
Psst you can do that in most any game.

Very cool! Lots to like here, never seen an Eve helicopter before, I love it! What was sticking out of the fairing on launch from Kerbin though? Looks like structural pieces with nosecones but I can't figure out why you'd need them. I personally hope to skip on the Eve landing in my 2nd attempt, as (like you point out) getting a profit out of it can be a bit of a chore. I know the Pol/Bop confusion only too well. I'm never sure which one I'm on until I go into map mode or check recent science reports.

I just checked my stock game and it says for "Shores" on Kerbin 7 reports, 21 hidden. That tells me there are 28 total reports for Shores. There really should be 28 for every biome, then. I can't think of any explanation that does not involve mods adding science to your game. If you open your KSP.log from the root KSP folder, you should have somewhere in the first few hundred lines a line that reads "Folders and files in GameData:" A stock game with no DLC or mods will have after that "Stock folder: Squad" and nothing else before the next line, "************************************************************************" A heavily modded game could have hundreds of lines. Could you paste what you have there? What a ridiculously stupid UI decision. Who EVER would care that there are science values for other biomes hidden? I just tested this as well and agree though, that's exactly what the game is doing. My recommendation: Ignore the values. They're meaningless except to be confusing.

Only every 2 years to Duna (mars)
Superfluous J replied to Muddyblack's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The cheapest (in dV) way to travel to another planet (unless you do flybys for gravity assists) is a Hohnann Transfer. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohmann_transfer_orbit -
At at time? 1, generally. 2 if I've got a long-term game and then start a quick challenge to break the monotony.

Is it possible to remove KSC biomes?
Superfluous J replied to SpinkAkron's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Actually this gives me an idea. I wonder how hard it'd be to add to the save that all the science has already been gotten. Probably not much easier than doing it correctly, but hey a programming schlub can dream. I do too, but it's pretty much exactly the opposite of what I'm trying to do here. Unless as @jimmymcgoochie suggests I just use it to clear it out and then remove that science gain. -
transfer calculator [1.12] Astrogator v1.0.1
Superfluous J replied to HebaruSan's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
You'd need to define how you were planning to do a burn outside a transfer window, as there are innumerable ways to do it "wrong" but only one way to do it "right" -
I have landed on and returned from every world multiple times, in multiple saves. Okay fine every landable world. Though I technically landed on Jool in a buggy/cheaty way.

I can't answer that without breaking the forum rules on politics.

The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
In episode 2 I get all Mun money (except anomalies but I don't think they're very profitable go go after with no other gains) and collect (but have yet to return) all Mun science (except redoing goos and jrs which I won't bother with) and even upgrade a couple more buildings. -
Buffets are disgusting anyway. Salad bars too. Which is sad because I used to love salad bars.
-
Same here, a good soundtrack is nice, but in almost every game I turn it off and play my own selection of music so you can't tell when I edit my videos.

Thinking ahead towards standardization

Then half the community would install Better Than Stock Resources. Come on, you know it would happen. -
Thinking ahead towards standardization
Superfluous J replied to mcwaffles2003's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I don't think that's possible. You are inevitably going to have someone who disagrees with the standard and makes their own. You will also eventually have people who agree with the competing standard. -

So basically ? -
I agree with you. That's why after the crossword or sudoku I put the phone down.

You don't need a computer to do anything. People spend their leisure time in different ways. I like to do a crossword puzzle or a couple sudoku to get my brain out of work mode and into sleep mode.

It depends on the game and situation. I'd rather do crosswords on my phone than anywhere else. And I can't with much practicality bring my triple-monitor setup to bed with me.
