Matt Lowne was caught on discord playing KSP 2 closed beta. Check the hype thread for my screen cap. We still don't know if it was a troll or real tho.
-
Sometime in August if SteamDB is to be believed. https://steamdb.info/sub/311459/
-
@Missingno200 The Hot tag showed earlier today for the Marketing thread. And before that it showed up the other day for another thread. It's not new to this section of the forum.
-
So I just took a look at the steamDB page and there are CD Keys available for KSP 2 Beta. Mercury for Beta Testing (SubID 311459) · SteamDB So Matt Lowne as well as others might actually have keys.

KSP 2 is still technically an indie game. Private Division is TT's indie publisher. The concurrent player base tripled on release of Factorio according to SteamDB. It went back down to about double, but yeah. Triple the players on release. Kind of proves my point that most people wait for official release (1.0). Well, 10 dollars off during EA (Supposedly 10, could be 20 or whatever.) I agree that they should advertise the game... but when it's in a state closer to official release. Start advertising during the Exploration update. Edit: Just took a look at KSP 1 SteamDB page. The concurrent players quadrupled on launch day. So again, proves my point a little.

Pretty sure I've seen Discord displaying a game that wasn't on the lookup table before.
-
Early access doesn't see a lot of people playing the game though. There are a few outliers and exceptions, but for the most part, Early access is avoided. So why market a game that will see little to no player up tick? Eh, you're probably right, probably a better analogy or wording. But KSP 2 EA is kind of like prototyping in a way. Intercept is going to refine the game with each update. That's the process of prototyping, refining a product to make it better. And drawing boards are not prototyping. Playable? Yes. Fit for release? No. Hence Early Access. Early Access is a way to test the Alpha/Beta of each stage of the game.
-
We'll all just have to agree to disagree then. This has gone long enough, yes, and if it goes on any longer the mods might have to take action, which I'm sure we all want to avoid. We're all entitled to our opinions. Whether those opinions are right or wrong is not something to decide here. Again, would you market an unfinished product? Personally. I want to know. If you designed a car and it JUST entered prototyping phase today, and prototyping was expected to take 1 to 3 years, would you market it? Knowing fully well that after prototyping, production would take another year or two to work out. So that's 4 to 5 years before people could get to officially own your car, would you market it? Or would you save your money and only advertise once production was in full swing and you knew you were able to ship a finished product?

Oh, I thought it just reali the title of the EXE file. Learn something every day.

Discord picks up pretty much any game you're playing.
-
It's not just a "Ceremony" it's the "Official" launch. Doesn't matter that millions or tens of millions of people own the game before hand. EA is not the "Launch" of a game. No matter what you say. The LITERAL definition of EA is open alpha and/or beta, aka, not launched, aka still in development. ^ This. ^
-
But Early Access and Launch are well defined terms. There is a clear difference between them. There's no gray area. Early Access - Open Alpha or Beta of an unfinished yet to be released game. Launch - The game is released in a 'full' state and is considered 'finished'.
-
The sass is immeasurable... and I like it.
-
No, Early Access is not "The launch." Early Access is that, Early Access. It's literally in the name. 1.0 is not a formality, 1.0 is the official launch of the game. Again, not "The Launch." It's early access. Not official launch. I will not stop repeating it, because it's true. When KSP 2 EA launches, it will be an unfinished product. Doesn't matter how fleshed out it is. Until we get all the stuff they want to add from the roadmap, it will be unfinished. There's no other way to look at it. There is no 'base version.' Base version implies that everything on the roadmap is DLC, which it isn't. It's features that have yet to be added to KSP 2. Aka, unfinished. Hell, the very definition of Early Acces is that you are agreeing to play an unfinished game. So? Still shows off the game. Do you really want them to spoil us by giving us a 6 hour tour of the game? I personally don't. I'd rather them keep the features relatively vague so that we can explore them deeper when EA launches. I think they meant the updates will be free, not any DLC.

We're talking about Matt Lowne, not Scott Manley.

Because they need someone to test those tutorials. Because everyone and their dog uses Tik Tok because it's the current hot social media platform. A lot of the KSP community is probably on Tik Tok. Not me personally because I despise Tik Tok with a passion, but that's not for here... They want to attract new players, yes, but not during Early Access. The Show and Tells are mostly for KSP fans, imo. Very few people buy into early access. Very few. Only diehard fans and people who want to help hunt down bugs will buy into Early Access. We all want KSP 2 to be successful. Yes, Marketing is very important, but you know what's more important? The TIMING of said marketing. They go all in on advertising right now, and KSP 2 might not see the increase in player base that they want, why? Because they advertised an UNFINISHED product which most gamers don't want. They have been showing what we'll be paying for. What do you think all the Show and Tells and Dev Diaries have been for?
-
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Would you massively market an unfinished product? No. You wouldn't. You would wait until the product is due for release and then start marketing. You wouldn't market a car that JUST entered prototyping/testing phase. You would wait until the testing phase was almost over and you KNEW you were taking your product to production. That's what Early Access is. It's the testing phase of KSP 2. They'll start putting out ads for it when we're months away from 1.0. They're only marketing it to people who watch the product. People like us on the forums or to people subscribed to their youtube channel. Like @Gargamel said, it would be a waste of money at this point in time to go in on advertisements. They have an unfinished product. Only the diehard fans and the people wanting to help Intercept are going to buy into early access.
-
That's what I'm wondering. Nothing wrong with a little fun.
-
It's a short, not a video.

Early access is also a way to make sure they find and squash bugs. What's better? A team of 50 looking for bugs, or a team of 1 million? EA isn't always about "We need money," or an excuse to 'release an incomplete game.' Yes, but KSP 2 is a passion project for the whole team at Intercept, most of whom are from this very community. They'll do right by us. I guarantee they will. Passion projects are seldom abandoned and seldom are broken. Things change. They always do. They never once promised us a 'feature complete game.' All they told us was a release date, that got delayed, then delayed again, and then they told us they are releasing the game in Early Access so the community can help test the core aspects as well as help them find bugs that need to be fixed before they move on to the next aspect. The fact we are getting Early Access is not a sign that things are 'not going to plan.' Like I said before, things change. They also are doing early access for another reason I mentioned in the first sentence. Bug finding and bug squashing. I can almost guarantee that DLC will not come 'a month after release.' If it does, I'll be fairly surprised. Your arguments are unwarranted. There has been no evidence that what you said has or will transpire.
-
That's the belief, yes. When complete it should look something like: Eeloo, Dres, Kerbin, Moho, Kerbol, Eve, Duna, Jool, (Possibly planet 8)

Nice try.

KSP2 Roadmap predicted dates?
GoldForest replied to savagekerbal's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
6 months seems a little too long for me. Keep in mind that they pretty much have everything done already, they just want to test the aspects individually. Colonies and interstellar parts and mechanics are already made. We've seen them. If it does take 6 months, id be surprised. I'd say the longest time is probably going to be 4 months, and that's only if they get tons of bugs or one really nasty big they're having trouble squashing.
