Minor hockey has also been cancelled, at least in this area. My logic was that they accepted the wiring in the NG as safe enough, and *might* have let them use the same design in the Max *if* they had asked first. So the fine would be for not following procedure and asking for the variation/exception first. I hadn't heard that the FAA didn't accept the argument that it's safe(r) as is.. The FAA has egg on their face for letting several issues slip by, so they had to play hardball, which is fine.

Something like this is probably the best option. Fold-out fabric wings with modern mini-jet-turbines. Basically a wingsuit for the whole seat, which would contain fuel (jet fuel isn't that explosive anyways) and avionics to help the (possibly injured) pilot fly it home .

Ouch. That'll be expensive. I figured another option would be for the FAA to allow it but heavily fine Boeing, but rewiring them might be cheaper than the fine. Better PR too.

Since the Tesla thread tends to go off on a tangent in regards to self-driving and traffic laws, rules and regs (*whistles innocently*), I decided to start this this thread for the discussion of self-driving and autonomous vehicle news, as well as general discussion of traffic and the rules of the road because that is directly related. Discussion of other vehicular technologies is also encouraged. It should also be noted that Tesla is not the only player in the self-driving game, just the most prominent. While mandated techs and changes to traffic laws tend to the political, we need to keep the thread away form political will and motivations and just focus on any legal stuff we would like to see changed, or the thread may be visited by a friendly neighborhood moderator! I held off on starting this thread until I had some sort of news to put in it, and finally there is something noteworthy. But first, some techs that I think should be made mandatory at some point. To further the development of self-driving, all new vehicles should be at least capable of Drive-by-Wire (i.e. the vehicle can be controlled by a computer). That's not to say it should be active, but the capability should be there for down-the-road upgrades to autonomous or self-driving. Of course, the manual controls would still be there, and to satisfy the the technophobes the DbW inputs could be unplugged from a relatively easy-to-access wiring connector. This would be something with a long lead time, say, within five years or so. I believe it needs to be mandated (sooner than later, like, ASAP) that all new vehicles are equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), since that tech is relatively mature and will prevent one of the more common accidents: rear-enders due to driver inattention. Insurance rates will also benefit. Well, BC is going into a two week school spring break next week, so that might help. As long as nobody goes travelling to, say, Seattle... We have tickets to the Canucks vs Tampa Bay game in exactly one week. It'll be interesting to see if that becomes a "fanless" event. Well, it does make sense that it would be easier to try to contain it earlier than later. If it was up to me I’d ban all non-essential travel, with precautions taken by those who must (I’m thinking mostly logistic drivers). It would be a costly measure, to be sure, but the delaying would likely make it worse.
