How long is it supposed to hang around? Long enough for someone to send a probe to it? Preferably with a Klaw, a honkin' big xenon tank, and a bunch of ion engines?

Well, it does show 30 F9 launches from LC-40. Although the preceding description doesn't specifically list Starlink, it could be lumped under "commercial," even if the customer is SpaceX itself. -
A hand shaped like a oven mitt... could it work?

Two hearts: a secondary heart can be a boon by helping pump blood back up from lower extremities, as well as increasing blood flow during fight-or-flight conditions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pak_Protector -

That's the thing I don't like about the current self-driving features in cars, not just Teslas: It's difficult for a human to stay focussed on the road when not actively driving, nearing impossible the longer one is on the road. Heck, humans have a hard enough staying focused on the road after a long highway cruise even when actively driving

Bravo, I say, bravo! This will be a big boon to comsat operators, especially as the MEV's evolve and expand their capabilites -
As with most serious accidents, it falls squarely into the "Swiss Cheese" accident model:

Well, crickets are a good source of protein and are commonly eaten in Asia. And there's cricket protein bars available, which is about the only way I can see myself eating crickets... (haven't tried them yet) Hmmm, cubinator making cricket incubators... incricketors?... a certain irony in that. It's actually one of the more logical ways to provide protein in space, aside from growing legumes. Although need to provide cricket fodder anyways, hmmm... An interesting project, to be sure!

Maybe that dent they popped out disqualified it from flight, but it’s still a useful test article. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
StrandedonEarth replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yeah, started watching “Avenue 5.” Gotta love Hugh Laurie’s deadpan delivery, and I can hand wave away the gravity generator stuff, but the part where they eject a coffin and it comes to a halt, then starts moving 90degrees to its original path, and is said to have started orbiting the massive cruiser, um, yaaaaa..... Having a ship massive enough to have objects orbit it is fine (although it may have been orbiting a little quickly, and having an object closely orbit the waist of a cigar is probably unstable), but it just wouldn’t move like that... -

Last summer I posted a lo-quality iphone pic of a storm coming through a pass, half hiding a jagged peak in the background. For some reason, that peak has been calling to me ever since, begging me to get a good shot of it. Maybe because it's only visible from a certain view corridor (which does not include my house), maybe because to me it looks like the kind of peak where one would find a dragon or wizard (or warlock!). I recently learned that peak is called Mt. Slesse, which has a school named after it, and where a Canadair North Star airliner crashed in 1956 Last November looked like a good chance for a photo-op, as the sunset was turning everything pinkish: Today I noticed that I really should have cleaned the lens that day.... Mt Cheam: Mt Slesse (heavily cropped). I soon realized that Mt Slesse fell into shadow before it got really rosy. Last week was the first gorgeously clear day in months, and I had a chance for another crack at taking pics. And I remembered to clean the lens this time, because I wasn't in such a hurry to get pics before the Sun went down! Another peak that plays hide'n'seek behind closer mountains, but I don't know the name: All pics taken with my Canon Rebel EOS T5, 55-250mm lens. I notice the sunset pics look a bit grainy when cropped. While all the pics posted here were taken on "full auto," I see from the file details that the sunset pics used ISO 3200 while the recent broad daylight pics went to ISO 100. I guess that accounts for the grainy-ness.

A 42-year-old Zamboni driver in Toronto was tapped to be the emergency backup goalie for the Carolina Hurricanes after both goalies were injured. The 'Canes went on to win 6-3. https://globalnews.ca/news/6584977/canes-beat-leafs-with-zamboni-driver-in-goal/ https://globalnews.ca/news/6584957/david-ayres-hurricanes-leafs-reaction/ Anybody have any other tales of livin' the dream?

Is There A Way In Physics To Push Off Vacuum?
StrandedonEarth replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I believe proper testing showed that previous tests didn't account for EM reactions against the power cables. So yeah, debunked. But while photon drives are possible, the power-to-thrust ratio is ludicrous -

Yep, what Stamp20 said. But also bear in mind you have to move the first kerbal out of the way of the hatch first. -

She's finishing up her practicum for her Education Assistant certificate, and everyone at the school she's at thinks she's fantastic. It helps that she already has her Early Childhood Educator certificate, and has been a daycare teacher for the last ten years or so. She was trained in that by the "old guard" that believed in doing what is best for the children. But as the government has been putting more money into daycares, the focus has shifted towards what's best for the daycare, and my wife has clashed against that philosophy and wanted out. She has already gotten a foot in the door as a casual, temporary (for the school year) lunchtime "Supervision Assistant," and used those contacts to get her practicum at the same school. Her ECE training has made her a godsend to the K-2 teachers. So with those references, she's practically a lock to get a "Casual" EA position. But to get benefits, she has to win a Permanent position, for which competition is understandably fierce. But her ECE is a huge asset, and the school she's at wants her there, so it *should* just be a matter of jumping through all the hoops once a permanent position is posted; once the principal gets funding for another EA or an older "EA" (who often don't have certificates; they were grandfathered in from before an EA ticket was actually required) retires.
