Any good freeware editor for videos and photos for windows pc?
StrandedonEarth replied to Cloakedwand72's topic in The Lounge
Would any of these suggestions be capable of doing F/X or Photoshop-style video editing. Like if I wanted to paste a Kerbal face into an existing video clip? I guess I'd have to break the video down and paste the face in frame-by-frame? -
I've been wanting to make a Kerbal version of the music video for "Countdown" by Rush. A daunting prospect, to say the least. And you want to do a full length movie?!?

Reminds me of the first and so far only time some friends and I went skydiving. On the way up one friend remarked that he didn't know why we were jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, to which the pilot replied "What makes you think it's perfectly good?" The rest of the flight up was much quieter...

Later, the Universal Translator was updated to translate this phrase as "Beavis and Butthead at Megadeath," a widely understood reference.* *In the 2363 holodeck remake of Beavis and Butthead (a widely acclaimed blockbuster hit) the pair rebuild their friendship after getting into an epic fight over a drumstick tossed into the crowd at a Megadeath concert. This was hailed as such a textbook example of diplomacy and peacemaking that it became required viewing at StarFleet and the United Federation of Planets.

Well, I'm sure there were worse *cough*wesleycrusher*cough* but that one stands out for some reason, probably cuz I thought it was stupid. Who would speak *only* in references, anyways? Makes no sense. Was there one I should be disliking more?
-
Oh geez, I have no idea what it was actually called. Picard on a planet trying to hammer out a treaty or understanding with a species that spoke in (cultural?) references, culminating in "dumbS and dumbS at someplace," referring to some event in the past where these aliens worked together or made an agreement or treaty or some such.

I always interpreted it as something similar to "peeved off"

While I knew the ST basics (Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty against the evil Klingons), I'd never actually watched ST until TMP, and I was rather underwhelmed. Later, I made friends and was eventually roomies with a Trekkie, so it wasn't long before I'd seen most things Trek. This was mostly enabled by the Space channel, which would play TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager back-to-back every day. This was about when Enterprise came out as well, but I never made it to season 3. I guess I'll need to check into that. I did enjoy all of them but of course they all aired the occasional turkey ( the TNG episode I call "Beavis and Butthead at Megadeath" especially stands out as one I would never want to see again). The Dominion War story arc of DS9 stands out as one of the best parts. I think I've seen all the movies. TWoK was great of course, but apparently I'm in the minority by liking ST4: TVH, but I liked the humor in it.

Model Rocketry 101: for stability you want the center of mass ahead of the center of pressure (think of where a side-view silhouette cut-out would balance). Too far ahead and it won't turn at all. So, fins as far back as you can, just big enough to keep it stable.

Suggestions for some good to have mods
StrandedonEarth replied to Kiwivenge's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
A simple little mod I'd add to Alshain's list would be "Navball Docking Alignment Indicator" by linuxgurugamer (either that or Kerbal Alarm Clock is the first mod I ever used). It adds a little red circle to the navball when you've targeted a docking port. When you're pointing at that, the docking ports will be perfectly lined up. It makes learning to dock much easier. A tip as far as docking goes is learn to fly the navball. Live the navball. Love the navball. Be one with the navball. "Landing Height Display" by Diazo will help with that. -

What Have You Done In real-life, Space related?
StrandedonEarth replied to Vinhero100's topic in The Lounge
Seen the Aurora Borealis a few times, full-color ones when I lived in Ft St John. Ok, that's more of an atmosphere-top phenomena. I've seen Jupiter and some moons through a little amateur telescope, hard to keep it in view since the Earth turns so fast! Also spied the ISS with a Dragon chaser with the Mk 1 eyeball. Many, many meteors over the years too. More recently, just saw Endeavour on display at the California Science Center -

All the electrons would repel themselves out and you'd be left with a blob of neutronium? -
Fix for shock heating on assent yet?
StrandedonEarth replied to Superluminaut's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You do realize that the Shuttle had to throttle down at Max-Q? Real rockets are designed to deal with ascent heating, either with heat tolerance, throttling back at key times, trajectory planning, or a combination thereof. E: Looked at the video. Look at your acceleration, looks like about 18m/s2 off the pad. That's about 1.8g, or a TWR of 1.8. A Mainsail at full throttle on a rocket that size? Um yeah, that'll do it. My launches start to see some mild heating effects at ~35km, disappearing at 40-45km, depending on how well I managed the turn (rarely even close to perfect). -

Software for Plotting a graph from a csv file
StrandedonEarth replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for that. It took a bit of mucking around, but I got a three-line graph produced for the first ride. I never would have figured it out without that guide. Now to show my son how to do it.... I had figured I could use Excel, but was seeing if there were other suggestions. That guide was a total bonus that made it much easier. -
I did get a pic of that, but during the day. I just didn't hadn't posted it yet. Cropped from the original. These were what I thought were the best, but there are more pics Here

StrandedonEarth replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
I posted a few of the more spectacular pics in the "Photography Showcase" thread. There were "only" 2001 items to copy off the memory card onto my computer, about 7 of those video clips. 20 gigs worth of pics and vids.
