Endersmens
I want to be poured by an appropriate puny. It sounds like a dearie toon.Is this really going to become a thing because of a sleepy post on my phone? Anyways, to pose a question, who is the oldest moderator? (If you guys are allowed to say)

Tex
What are the specific rules regarding necro-ing threads? I've seen a couple of threads in the past that are about a year or -more past their sell-by date and randomly posted in, and no moderator closes it even after being reported. If the topic is still relevant and the necro-ing post adds legitimate content, we tend to look on it benevolently.

Would that be considered a necro?
sal_vager
Pretty much this, as short posts that just ask questions or '+1' annoy other members, but posts that actually add to a thread and are well received are fine. And of course the threads owner creator can revive their thread at any time (unless it's locked, then they can ask the moderators), well unless it's to say 'bump!' Edited as "owner" is not the correct term here, the threads creator doesn't own the thread, but as they made it they have the ability to edit the opening post, much as any member can edit their own posts. Superfluous J
Bumping your own thread with valid info is an art form. I don't get mad when I see "bump" thread, just disappointed.

Really? I didn't know this! Also, wouldn't it be better to say OP? Re:threads belong to the community and the rules are made by Squad and enforced by the moderation team. Can you clarify? Red Iron Crown
I think sal_vager was just using the common vernacular there, Dman979.
Dman979
Ok. I think I was getting too lawyery.
sal_vager
Yeah I find the term "OP" to be a little impersonal, it's two keystrokes to describe the person who potentially sparked new discussion and thought on these forums.
Specialist290
To elaborate on what Red and sal have both already said, the big take-away here is the following two points:Being the person who creates a particular discussion thread does not, in itself, give you any special rights to what goes on in the thread you created. The initial post does help set the tone and topic of the following discussion, but it's still a post just like any other. That being said, many threads are created for a particular purpose, such as maintaining a central discussion thread for whatever content (tutorial, add-on, fanwork, forum challenge, etc.) that the thread's creator has made and wishes to share. We'll generally be willing to cooperate with the thread creator to help keep these threads on-topic, since it's good for the OP, for the discussion, and the community as a whole. That's why we often lock threads or try to creatively shuffle thread "ownership" on request. It's not so much because they actually own the thread, but the matter of who has the first post in a topic can be helpful to other users trying to figure out who's "in charge" of whatever project is being worked on. As elaborated here, the special privileges we extend in these situations are "courtesies and not guaranteed rights."

Any privileges I have as the OP of "my" threads are granted by the other users voluntarily, not through moderation fiat.
