Its tricky because the SLA module handles the decoupling of the top node and the panel jettison together. SAF doesnt do this and is in general a little messy for this use case. Perhaps the better solution would be an independent 4.25m structural barrel section to use below the SLA.

I think if the player is trying to launch big payloads, then just dual launch it and rendezvous in orbit. Put the CSM on a smaller rocket with the SLA :P

I ***THINK*** given what little we know and can thus infer from Centaur... That the engineers all thought "Space is cold no boiloff"

Yep but no one thought about the fact that solar radiation heats our planet up.  they all just assumed that the heat was caused by friction in our atmosphere (at the time.)

Kind of shocking that it's possible to get this close, tbh.

The NASA flight plan calls for LEO, then transposition and docking, then the ejection burn.

I'm using KSRSS at 2.5x. I launched from Kourou and tried to time my launch so that my equatorial DN would be positioned at/near the ejection burn point. PVG to 130km circular orbit on only the first two stages. I completed the transposition and docking and the rest of the prep for cruise phase within the first revolution so the ejection burn was done at the start of the 2nd revolution. Default boiloff settings.

Took this crappy screencap immediately after completing the burn. Check out my fuel margins. I have an encounter, so I only used 1 ignition and then converted to the lab and extended the solar panels, and now everyone is taking a nap.

IIRC, for one of the proposals, the S-IVB was used to kick the whole stack to an extreme elliptical (Lunar distance at AP) orbit, then transposition, purging, checkout and the SPS was used to give the final kick at PE to eject. That way they had an abort option in the first week.

Funny you bring that point up. On the same mission, they reduced the S-IC retros. They discovered that the stages didn't separate as far as expected and concluded that if just one of the remaining retros failed, they could have a collision, so they reinstalled all the retros.

Yep, AJ-260s will be revamped in this update cycle.

PS: Shouldn't the CSM have the science container option? IDK If you guys are trying to balance it for KSP, but honestly, it's a lot more natural to get all the data from LM transferred into the CSM.
