Longest march in army around 70km, 20hours, +guns and backpacks, -10degrees.
I wish you a nice holiday.

That's less than 50 miles. Not too bad. Granted, you're in Finland, and have a sergant shouting at you. But I'd imagine that the weight on the packs of 14 year-olds is about 50 pounds, from my own experience. For the younger kids, that's a lot. And we have heat, not cold.

We have never been shouted, people talk less in the north than elsewhere, people are more serious.
At this occasion it was snowy/windy and we carried rubberboots with double innershellshoes, crosscountry, woodland , frozen lakes, frozen swamps, mostly nighttime.
It was ugly. :D

I'm back!!!

And guess what? After dislocating my knee last year, and then going on a 55 mile trek, turns out that doesn't mix well, I'm feeling a click whenever I take a step, and I also now have a slight limp.

To the doctor I go tomorrow!

Well that doesn't sound so good. Hope it's nothing serious.

So how did your adventure go? I noticed on the news that you had some extreme heat in that part of the country; How did you fare with that?

I just came home from the doctor, I just need to put a knee stabilizer, ice it, and elevate it, they'll be taking a xray in a couple weeks to see how it's doing, but it doesn't hurt much, and I only really notice it when I'm going up/down stairs.

Other than that, It was really fun, probably the most fun I've ever had, at closing campfire they did a "Themed campout" skit, they did 2009, and someone walked across saying "I slept with koolaid packets in my pocket, #LivingDagerously" , that was the best joke :D

Hiking wise, while we were at Abreu (I don't know how to spell it) we had root beer, I had 4 in a half cups, it was so good, and at Apache springs (Again, don't really know how to spell it) we were caught in a hailstorm, and within minutes of the rain starting shortly after, the trail we were hiking on turned into a stream...

We were less than 200 yards from the main cabin. After about 20 minutes we decided to put our packs on and run for it, when we got there there were three to four crews up there waiting on the sheltered porch as well, but they did have hot drinks, and new red roof inns that had little flies, and smelled of sawdust instead of crap.

@Spaceception Welcome back! I hope you get better. Also, you didn't miss much while you were gone. Just the Juno arrival at Jupiter, some scandal with a gambling website, and the return of the Magic Boulder.

I do have one question: why was Cypher's Quarry given the name "Cypher's"?

Gambling website was a Counter-Strike thing, VALVe was sued for underage gambling I believe from those sites.

It was the guy's last name I believe.

That happened a lot at Waite Phillip's ranch- now known as "Philmont," home of "Mount Phillips."

Welcome back! I wanted to go to Abreu, but we didn't have it on our itinerary. What was your itinerary?

I had hurt my knee before going, too, but mine got better during the trip. Guess it just needed to be stronger! You'll get better, soon, you're young.

Do YWTGBTP?

Okay.

Abreu was awesome. :)

Cyphers Mine

Mt. Phillips

Comanche Creek

Apache Springs

Apache Springs

Fish Camp

Abreu

Stockade ridge

Yep, I'd like to staff at Apache in a few years. :)

Yes, I wanted to be a ranger this summer, but I didn't get around to it. Now I'm a lifeguard. Rangering at Philmont is definitely on my to-do list, though.

Which was the Civil War-era camp?

Also, the trek was 66 miles and 15,428 ft of vertical gain.

Not sure, :P

I'd also like to mention, that we had LOTS of water, I didn't have to break out the water tablets at all.

I just got back from my trek. Itinerary 27, crew 719N2. Who was your ranger? Ours was a scout who used to be in our troop, his name was Scott. I'm guessing you did Baldy? We were in that field just under the summit eating lunch when it started hailing. We walked to Baldytown for the commissary, we should have canoed down. I'll post a thread all about my trek somewhere,  if I have time. BTW, I have my Triple Crown now,  Summit, Sea Base, Philmont.

PS

I do not want to see another peanut for at least a month. Or 2. Or 6. Or ever.

@Spaceception

Glad to see you healthy back here, from the chart i can see you had a very nice natural abstinence from the civilization, lots of things to explore and discover by own eyes and senses.
A nice nightsky above for sure, away from manmade luminal pollution...

Nice night sky?

More like the best night sky. Ever.

A prayer I know comes to mind...

In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again
