Azimech
Here's a 2x timelapse of a segment in the mountains. Stock car, no SAS, no adjustable wings except the following: airbrakes and Boost Flap. Guess I had a lot of practice building rovers for Duna. Funny to see some kind of codec makes the video a lot brighter. I could hardly see anything left or right while driving. I plan to just do screenshots, for my run. Videos are out of the question, and I'm on a bit of a mod purge spree. I think a screenshot at each gate, with log window open should be minimum proof, whatcha think Triop? @Li0n, nice idea. I'd be happy to rock a race flag, myself. Seconded. @Majorjim! Glad to see you took the bait, haha. Your builds are always a good source of inspiration. Is the start date still Jan 1st? Cheers man. :-) My rover will be pure electric me thinks at this point. I'm not sure if it will have splitters and rear wings Ect, I'm making it to look cool more than anything. I may try a version with a Juno and reaction wheel after though. By what reasoning do you prefer the Juno over the 1.25 variant (can't remember the name)? Purely weight?

Azimech
Just now, DrunkenKerbalnaut said: I've yet to try this. Just an aileron that blocks exhaust intermittently? Yep, I've coupled it with the brakes and AG2 (because it's just above the W) for things like reverse or when braking is a bad idea. Big advantage: your jets keep running at full speed so after release you accelerate with max thrust. But, keep the control authority low for a lower response time ... I usually use Elevon 4. It has an actuator speed of 30 deg/s. Having to travel it's max of 20 degrees is a lot slower than only 2. Disadvantage: your jets consume fuel for nothing except maybe charging batteries. Already a few years back I told Squad about the totally unrealistic spool up/down times of the jet engines in KSP. Apparently they feel it's fine as it is. SpannerMonkey(smce)
Hi, ill be using the races mod if you still are intending to, it works fine and gives a real indication of and improvement when testing designs rather than the guesstimate of the F3 window and as for time to complete a section it's exact, clock starts when you cross the line and stops when you cross the finish,. no ambiguity. It's such a tiny mod that it's a negligible impact on a 1GB gamedata folder I've swapped back to stock wheels as my mod ones while OK at moderate speed have problems with terrain seams at higher speeds, and higher speeds are definitely needed. Re the install of races, put the save in saves, put the Races folder in GameData and the same with the RaceTracks folder, i did not put it in the races folder , i have access to both tracks, the stock one that comes with the mod and the Dakar stages

Triop
UPDATE: The mod will not be used in the challenge. I'll go for proof by screenshots of the start+finish with the flag and your vehicle (and we need to see the time ) After you finished all stages add up all the times, this will be the total time for the Kerbal Dakar. Don't go back to redo a stage to get a better time, that will be cheating. I like the idea for a badge, any volunteer want to design one ? 16 hours ago, DoctorDavinci said: One suggestion though: Try renaming the persistence.sfs to Dakar 2017.sfs ... Perhaps adding a rule that once you post your time for a given stage in this thread then you can't change it ... everyone will be looking for the best route for their rover so will do each stage a few times me thinks (I've already done stage 1 a couple times to find the best jumps ) 21 minutes ago, Triop said: I like the idea for a badge, any volunteer want to design one ? DrunkenKerbalnaut
Let's just assume everybody involved is in it for friendly rivalry. Should someone want to cheat, they'll find a loophole. No sense in bagging down the affair with anti-cheating legislature. "Everybody be cool, and it'll be cool. Cool? Cool."

I prefer to not make assumptions as around these forums there is alway 1 or 2 people who get salty and fart flames if they don't get their way ... making the rules clear unfortunately is a bit of a necessity since if it isn't clearly stated then we're just asking for it There is an old saying ... 'Never assume anything because you'll end up making an a$$ out of u and me' I'm confident that the roster so far won't try and use dirty cheating alpaca's, however I expect that there will be more entrants as we get closer to race day Better safe than sorry IMO
