You forgot to remove the raptor cluster part too btw

I've kept this one around for vague(?) reasons - I can just swap the raptors out, the outer frame there wasn't based on anything in particular. So once the Raptor replacement comes in (trying to decide between a couple options) it's a drop in replacement. But if people prefer I'll cut that one out, easy enough.

If new designs are being suggested to replace the scrapped command pods, might I make a suggestion for pods based on Gaganyaan and/or SUSIE?

I've got stuff in flight already.

I personally don't mind that it is still there, I was just curious if it was intentional or not.

Near Future Spacecraft 1.4.6

  •  Removed the Nereid and Tethys command pods and the Chickadee engines.
    •  They are soft-deprecated so crafts in flight will not be affected.
    •  The reasons for doing this should be evident.
    •   They may be replaced in the future by different designs

I know it is gone now, but what even was the real life inspiration for the Nereid?

I think a good candidate to base it off of would be the YF-215 from CASC, intended for the Long March 9. - while not quite fully realized yet, it seems broadly similar in a lot of regards, and thrust/ISP-wise would be a very good fit IMO.

Lads, Nertea hasn't actually taken anything away from you. You still have to manually update these mods. You can just not update them. I know I certainly won't be, not until the update that adds replacements is released. It's the author's choice to remove things from the official release, and it's your choice to install that official release. Cool your jets.

a fuel switch option allowing Magnetoplasmadynamic thrusters (or PITs or VASIMRs, whichever's more realistic really) to use Hydrogen (probably just LH2 from CryoTanks) would be sweet! There's already the Plasma RCS pods that allow it, so extending that to engines would be great.

Seems like a good idea, I agree with this, especially for the MPD thrusters. It also fits with FFT -  the recently added Arcjet RCS thrusters have both a lithium and a hydrogen variant. I'm unsure about the VASIMIRs - whilst hydrogen fuel is a consideration IRL for fuel, the ones currently implemented already have two modes (Argon and Xenon). I don't know whether hydrogen fuel would work with the PITs. Overall, I think it's a good idea, maybe one that needs more thought on implementation.

You can update the mods, but the thread is an open bulletin. If one side or the other has full control of the thread that defeats the purpose.

The OPs wishes should always take precedence frankly.

I disagree, sure Nertea can do what he wants with the mods, but he can't control the discussion around them.

Hello @Nertea

Thanks you for your mods!

Hmm i am getting a warning in my log :

[WRN 13:04:45.464] Cannot create config from file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\GameData\NearFutureSpacecraft\Patches\VABOrganizer\NFSpacecraftSubcatgegories.cfg'.

and indeed, there is absolutely nothing in this cfg file (both in my files and yoyr github). Is this intended?
Here please find a copy of my log, if needed : https://easyupload.io/gchocn

The OP of a mod can control the discussion by having their thread locked. Please don't annoy mod makers too much, in some notable cases modders even deleted their old posts which removed a lot of valuable information.

Nertea warned us of the change, did a soft deprecation to avoid breaking existing saves, and intends to create new parts. He's donating his time to do things correctly.

Nertea being an all around cool guy as per usual.

I don't really play KSP1 anymore (modding KSP2 primarily), but I can always make time to respect all my fellow modders for their work and choices surrounding them. :)

Near Future Launch Vehicles 2.2.2

  • Fixed VABOrganizer subcategory assignments for RCS parts
  • Removed the Otter and Sphinx engines
    • They are soft-deprecated so crafts in flight will not be affected.

    • They may be replaced in the future

Will the *soft deprecation* remain or will the parts be *hard* removed eventually?

You can safely delete the file. It should probably be removed.

I wouldn't count on them being maintained. Once they are replaced, they're going to be at risk. I might do something weird like massively decimate the textures to keep things safer but degraded for longer.

Lovin' this move. Anyway, a fuel switch option allowing Magnetoplasmadynamic thrusters (or PITs or VASIMRs, whichever's more realistic really) to use Hydrogen (probably just LH2 from CryoTanks) would be sweet! There's already the Plasma RCS pods that allow it, so extending that to engines would be great.

The issue with this is that with those engine technologies, switching to a lighter propellant significantly cuts the thrust. As I want to have fairly clear role categories for each engine tech here, I don't want to make the MPDTs suddenly jump into low thrust high ISP roles. I wouldn't use the electric RCS lineup as a good comp, I'm really not happy with it overall and now that FFT has some more options in that space it might get reworked in the future.

The current thinking for the NFLV engine replacement is to use the the Welkin engine in both a standard and vacuum versions (Otter, Sphinx), as it's neat and has a nice visual vibe as well as fitting the rough size envelope. For the CryoEngines one it'll be either the Aeon-R or Archimedes, again with a vacuum variant (Deinonychus/Eagle). Not sure which at the moment, leaning towards the RocketLab one because I like Neutron.

@Nertea if you don't mind the suggestion, perhaps stoke space's engines might be a good replacement as the first stage plans to use methalox ffsc engines and the option of a combination plug nozzle engine and heat shield would be great for building reusable second stages.

I'm fairly certain any american spaceflight program is off the table for being added unfortunately.
