YouTube has better functionality for the current use case to be sure. X needs a way to easily find video media for a source—say SpaceX—in one spot. High res video, with a windowed mode (vs the current potato or full screen choice)..

I search for @spacex, go to the profile, then select the "media" tab and scroll the vids and pics.

In other news,  photographer / videographer getting creative with FOD armor for Friday:

Yeah, that works, and they are in order... but each launch has the stream, plus liftoff/landing/deploy shorts (maybe more), then stills, so it's a LOT of scrolling to find a particular vid.

Yes, much scrolling.  An issue I have only with the X video player on mobile is that when I have the audio going to Bluetooth speakers, the sound works fine but the visuals freeze.  No Bluetooth, works fine.  Works fine for YouTube, Rumble, etc.  They got a long punch list to get the video player polished and media search working well

Prediction:  F9 will be around a lot longer than most would predict.  The design, given launch numbers and reusability , has become the Ford F-150 of rockets and I can even see the design eventually licensed out and an after market for once, twice, nth, flown boosters.   Maybe even aftermarket non-OEM repair/refurbish parts.

Export bans are the big variable for this prediction, of course

Just gonna drop in here that SpaceX using Tesla cars for transporters and X-exclusive broadcasts and the like is exactly the sort of behavior that led to anti-trust laws being written in the first place.

And since the ownership of those different companies is not identical, if one company gives something to another (such as SpaceX giving X valuable exclusive content), that potentially constitutes transferring value from one set of minority shareholders to a different set -- probably without their consent.

Not the battle I'd pick, but out of morbid curiosity what do you think is the monetary value being unfairly moved about in this allegedly improper behavior?  Ma Bell levels of money?  Standard Oil levels of money?  Who is the victim?  What consumer choice is being limited en masse?

What monopoly over what market are they unfairly squashing competition within?  I'm not seeing how using a few Teslas or streaming free videos on X at no charge equates to violations of anti trust laws.  The fact that the shareholders are separate groups makes it less likely to be an anti trust issue, not more

Looks like they're going to be streaming it on the SpaceX website as well as Totally-Not-Twitter. - SpaceX - Launches

Also, what the heck is CT? Central Time? Central what Time? UTC exists, you know...

Hey, I have a launch in my time zone so I don't have to do conversion for once, let me have this one! :)

Its just for PR and its an minor expense. Now starlink is more questionable as it an major system  but spaceX might offer bid for the launches  don't think many would fight for that. Stroke might for replacement runs.

thought about it but with their recent moves against adblockers i dont think i want to give youtube any money.

anyway looking forward to lighting this candle.

For a while it complained to me about the adblocker, then I tried that new one, which I subsequently turned off... and no ads still. So <shrug>.

You can run adblocker and open in a private window as well, their restrictions were based on your account.

PiHole doesn't help in this regard.

It's not even quite that bad.  If you clear your cookies and site data for youtube, it should stop it too.  All I had to do was re-log in.  Did that a couple weeks ago now and I haven't had problems since.
*edit: I will note that I am using Firefox, and not the browser made by the ad-serving conglomerate that owns YouTube.

I temporarily blocked *.x.com and *.twitter.com on my pihole and the stream on spacex.com still worked.  (I was worried since it has embedded links to watch... there.)  So hopefully that won't be an issue.  Although I am still hoping for a YT stream.
