Just wondering if the KER parts are now useless, and the mod has just gone partless at this point?

Because when I add one of the parts, there doesnt seem to be any options in the PAW, and I get all the UIs using the toolbar button...meaning the parts look useless? Also, yes, I tried the Partless toggle in the settings... either setting seems to have no effect vOv

I actually *prefer* using the parts for plugins lie this, rather than having plugins lie this available globally, I like to only have them available on per-craft basis, based on whether a part is installed.

I think it's the same. Remember it matters what level tracking station you have. L3 does not require the parts but lower does.

It's not just the tracking station though, you also need to be sure that KER is set to career more (IIRC it's called progress mode in the settings though). Should be enabled by default when playing in career.

If that is the case, you still need either one of the parts on your craft, or an engineer, or tracking station on level 3 to get the KER readouts for a craft.

I'm trying to use KER (v. 1.1.83) and it drops my FPS below 20-30, making the game very-very sluggish. It happens when I launch a rocket with a Kerbal Engineering System or when I start a mission where KER is already enabled. It's the only mod I installed, also when I remove it FPS is always 60 (I suppose it can be much higher, but I locked it to 60). My PC specs are i9 9900KF, RTX 2080Ti and 16 Gb RAM.

Has anyone experienced such problems? Any solutions? I understand that I can play without KER, but it would be nice to have it installed. :(

Hello, I'm having this same issue, looking at the console seems like there is some problem reading the xml files.

I have tried with only KER installed and my FPS go to 8-9 as soon as I go to the launchpad.

I have tried:

KSP 1.11.1 with KER 1.1.8.2

KSP 1.11.2 with KER 1.1.8.2

KSP 1.11.2 with KER 1.1.8.3

here is my log file:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qNX18DHOiIyL5vkqzK9zuIYntIrGVVSN/view?usp=sharing

(errors starting at line 5850)

WHAT? They actually released another update? I need to check Steam more often.  That's great news.

I'll try to help but I'm certainly no expert here. I'm running  KER 1.1.8.3 on KSP 1.11.1 no problem. You didn't list that specific combination so you might try that but i doubt that's it. For me there's no noticeable FPS drop (maybe 5 FPS) and no log exceptions. It appears to be from the "system" not KER exactly. And it's on an XML serializer error, which I think could have something to do with .NET. So I suggest updating your .NET first before you mess with your KSP install.

EDIT:

Or just try reinstalling KER...

Thanks a lot for your reply! I checked the logs and it appeared KER was spamming exceptions at the speed of light (30Mb per 5 seconds), which caused the problem with FPS.  It looks like it couldn't read some config files, so I just redownloaded KER and now everything works very smoothly. Thanks!

Thanks a lot. I've found the issue! It seems KER is very sensible of the way you install it (maybe the way it uses serialization):

Before I've used Vortex to manage my mods, wich uses symlinks and hardlinks  to move the mod files in the GameData folder.

I have removed all the loose files in KSP directory, checked file integrity with steam and manually placed only KER in GameData folder and it worked (60fps).

Then I've set Vortex to copy files instead of making links and it didn't work.

In the final solution I have installed all the other mods with Vortex links, but disabled KER into Vortex and placed it manually. This method works for all combinations of KER/KSP.

Is there a way I can get KER to display more decimal places for various figures like semi-major axis or orbital period, either through the ingame menus or by adjusting some settings file?

Great. I just learned about Vortex. A word of caution, I wouldn't recommend modding your Steam install. It's better to make a complete copy of KSP to mod. It's an extra 5 GB but safer. Not sure if that's what you're doing. Some mods modify game files (unfortunately) and if/ when you check file integrity with Steam, it will "fix" modded files which can wreck the mods. Also when Steam auto-updates to a new version, it could potentially break your mods. I'm happy with CKAN. You can make and manage copies of KSP and also export/ import modpacks.

Is there a way to quickly toggle the KER window? Currently I think I have to click the KER button on mod toolbar, then its control panel pops up to the left (99% of the time obstructed by other stuff) and only there I can hide/show the window. I wish there was some hotkey shortcut or maybe right clicking the toolbar icon would quickly toggle it. Is there anything I'm missing?

Hi ! You can go in the vab for example and show the ker toolbar. Then press settings in the ker window. Then press "edit key bindings".

Not necessarily.  You can enable transparent file compression on Windows. it saves a lot of space, and on spinning disks even make the loading faster.

If you are on Linux/BTRFS ou Apple/APFS you can use also Copy-On-Write - a thingy were two different copies of the same file shares the same space on disk until some of them changes, and then only the change will written on disk. This is a HUGE space saver, you can have two copies of the same KSP instalment taking only 5 to 10% of the space of a single copy.

Unfortunately, ReFS (the new Windows file system) will be available only on Windows Server and Windows Pro Workstation, so end-users cannot use COW on Windows -at least, for while.

has anybody experienced problems with the TWR readings using Better SRBs? I set the trust limiter to something like 20%, since that was what KER was showing as a TWR of 2, but when I launched the rocket it fell to the ground.

EDIT: NVM, its a known bug.

I have started 'soaring' in KSP and find that a glide ratio (as approximated by L/D ratio displayed in Alt-F12 Physics Aero Data GUI) is an essential indicator.

I would like to request that this 'low-hanging fruit' be included as a datum in the Vessel information list so that it can be chosen for display in a HUD.

I'm so keen, I would volunteer to doing the work myself, with guidance.  @jrbudda?  PM?

May be a compatibility issue with the latest version of KER 1.1.8.4 and KSP 1.11.2, but I didn't test it fully on just a stock plus DLC install only so it could be a mod interaction.

After updating to KER 1.1.8.4, all the thermal readouts went kaput. My own little HUD window just showed up like it does for the landing or maneuver when in the editor while on the pad (ie there's no information there so it doesn't really create a window but you can see the top left corner still) and nothing short of rolling back the version to 1.1.8.3 could fix it. Not sure why it did that because I have nothing that would touch Core Heat or Part Heat, even System Heat works alongside it rather than replacing it yet, and it was obvious that temperatures were still increasing because graphically I got the red glow and temp bars in the game but KER had nothing for a readout, nor anything about that in the log file which is the really weird part.

The other issue I observed was the Rendezvous window disappearing after selecting a body that I technically didn't have orbital information for but could still select from the list. I have Research Bodies installed and forgot I choose a difficulty option for the test save that leaves Duna undiscovered, although MJ and KER would still be able to read their orbital parameters, previously. Forgot to copy the log file before I fixed my install, but IIRC the error was unable to get relative inclination that was completely breaking the window and making it disappear. It wasn't really disappearing but not being drawn in the first place as there were hundreds of that error being spammed in the log file. Basically every time it would poll to create the window, it would fail and post a log entry. And since you couldn't change the target without a window there, it would be stuck endlessly repeating that until you loaded a different craft, or reverted to a time before you decided to select a target. Not even sure that it's strictly caused by RB since I didn't have any other craft at the time to test if it occurred with selecting another object besides a planet with an "unknown" orbit.

If you need any other information that might help with finding the cause, please drop a reply, otherwise I've largely fixed it for myself by reverting back a version and it makes little sense to worry about 1.12 compatibility right now when most of my mods aren't even updated yet so I'm not updating yet. If and when that happens, I'll grab some copies of the logs if I experience the same issue again. Like I said, could be a mod interaction but it's not worth the time and effort right now to tease out.

This is the same error that I was seeing before the logs overwrote themselves after I rolled back. You can see in the timestamp it's roughly every 20 ms, same thing I experienced.

I'm noticing a bit of an uncomfortable behavior.

Some KER windows persist for a while after a scene change. The most noticeable is when I close the TrackStation and the KER window remains visible for a few seconds still...

* I also receiving this erros on the screen:

ADDON BINDER: Cannot resolve assembly: KerbalEngineer.XmlSerializers, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null
ADDON BINDER: Cannot resolve assembly: KerbalEngineer.XmlSerializers

Thanks.

Why is the landing module kind of trash for this? It only reads out properly if you cancel all your horizontal velocity and just falldown, otherwise the reading is awful? Case in point:

eZ668wf.png

Notice how the countdown is HIGHER than the time to impact, and that for some reason, my suicide burn altitude is negative? What's going on here? For reference, I was using a Dawn engine on a very light probe and landing on the Mun.

hi, for a reason that need not be explained, I have to decrease the total dV of this spaceship by a certain amount.
I choose to believe in the KER's values rather than in those stock ones that I don't trust so much,
and for the sole purpose of testing I decide to set the total dV to 10254 m/s.
Anyway before to proceed I only would like to understand why in the main window of KER, where the various stages are listed,
the stage 8 disappears and reappears depending on how much fuel is loaded/unloaded from the stage 9.
Can someone kindly make me understand?

Here's a short video that shows what I mean:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/p7aa594kwrrqgkf/KER dV.mkv?dl=0

edit: nevermind, I forgot I have a couple of stage 8 tanks with the same fuel priority of stage 9.
setting them to their default priority, changes that behavior a bit, anyway the stage 8 continues to
appear/disappear when I remove a certain fuel quantity.
Setting these tanks to a lower priority should increase the total dV, like stock dV indicator shows but KER says which decreases,
so now I'm also not completely sure about KER values correctness too.

it will only be my impression, but as far as I can remember,
when assembling spaceships with radially attached tanks and engines with crossfeed enabled,
there have always been problems or discrepancies with both the KER and the stock dV indicator.

as always I will go on by trial and error, quite boring.
