Not officially timed with races, just maybe of interest?

I uhh.. borrowed your idea @swjr-swis for the occluded elevons which really do help you stop. This is still on 1.3 though, not sure how well it'll do in 1.6.1.....

I think we're approaching the limit though of how fast we can go over 1000 meters.

Borrow away! I've been proclaiming the virtues of said braking system for ages now - would be nice to see it become more common use.

Share the craft file, and I'll do a timed run in 1.6.1 for you if Triop doesn't, so you can get on the scoreboard.

I already timed a run in 1.3.0 with the races mod, for a time of 1.95 seconds. There were issues with tripping the gate, but using the BetterTimewarp half speed setting, it did trip properly.

Actually, I decided to add some wheels instead. :D

 

Presenting The Egg 5f - running the 1km in 1.92 seconds.

Ok, fine, I'll add some wheels. Maybe some sepratrons too. And let's get rid of the elevons, since it's a proper car now...

Val runs the 1km stretch in 1.92 seconds and comes to a safe stop on the runway, surviving a 193G acceleration.

I had to temporarily install the BetterTimeWarp mod as well as Races to get the darn thing to register a time... had to slow down time to 0.25x for it to even see the checkpoint. But there you go, a proper Nr 1 spot for a proper wheeled drag race car. ;)

I think it lacks the "not explode" item of the contest:

Well… It must not EXPLODE. :D See my entry - I managed to salvage intact the cockpit, the rest of the craft splashed on water virtually intact. :) 

It's not on the rules - but I'm trying to keep the cockpit inside the track just for the challenge. :P
