KSPedia is now available at our website! [DISCUSSION]

The announcement thread is locked, so I thought I'd start this thread to discuss the above change.

Taking a look the new KSPedia page contains 3 links to download a PDF (PS4, XBox and PC)

This seems a lit of a step backwards in functionality.  It would seem to mean that modders can't include KSPedia pages with their mods.  It also means that animations and other dynamic content can't be included any more.

@UomoCapra : "For the time being, the KSPedia will remain in the PC version of the game, but you’ll be able to access it from our website as well."

Some clarification on what this means could really be helpful.

A downloadable pdf is next to useless compared to the in-game help tool as it exists today. And there is no comparable way for mods to offer their own in-game help without the considerable work and effort required to make a custom UI for it.

So what does "for the time being" mean? Will it be removed at some point? Why would that happen?

In the past it didn’t work well for me because I increased the GUI scale to 150% and the pages just got cut off.

However if I remember correctly they fired that bug so now it works great.

I found this INCREDIBLY useful as a new player (even with the display issues) and I personally think it is a HUGE mistake to remove it from the game.

Why are they removing it from the game? The whole point of KSPedia is that it's an ingame wiki that you can refer to without needing to go on the internet. It's entirely pointless if it's just on the website...you may as well just use the KSP wiki instead. Plus, and as @Paul Kingtiger said, it's a step back in functionality as modders won't be able to add info for their own mods.

@UomoCapra Please reconsider this decision. It'll do nothing but remove usefulness from the game, as well as moddability.

I welcome the availability of the KSPedia on the website as it means it can be accessed at any time, and from mobile devices too.  But i do think it would be a negative step to remove access to it from the game itself.

I am a big believer in having stuff accessible offline wherever practical. So, if it is at some point, to be no longer 'part of the game' why not make it so that when it is installed to the KSP folder in a seperate 'KSPedia' sub-folder?  Then the game will know where to find it?

It means at the moment we don't have any plans to change it.

Thanks, that's great news!

KSPedia ingame is so useful, both for unmodded and modded installs. I love the way it adds a tool that both modders and Squad devs use to give easily accessible information on how to play the game, and other game mechanics.

Phew, it would be a crying shame if KSPedia functionality was removed from in-game as its really the only platform supported by KSP to allow for modders to implement documentation for their mods.

Given how confusing the original wording was, I can see why you guys are looking for an additional Community Manager. :D

I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

It's really nice to see all these little (for varying definitions of "little") Quality of Life improvements that we're getting. Sure, there's always big stuff to fix, but paying attention to the details means somebody cares. That's pretty cool--Good job, guys. :)
