steve9728
Name fun fact? Alright, here's another one: The chief designer of the current Shenzhou manned spaceship and CZ-2F manned rockets, and deputy chief designer of next gen. manned rocket, called Rong Yi (容易). If we just ignore that's the person's name, that means "easy" in English. The word about "Rong Yi said her job wasn't that 'rongyi' actually." was really come up in the news hahaha
DDE
There is a single stretch of genetic code common to all verterbrates: TTTAATTGAAAGAAGTTAATTGAATGAAAATGATCAACTAAG It is precisely 42 nucleotides long. Evidently, the answer to life, the universe, and everything is "have a spine". (pdf) http://arxiv.org/pdf/math.st/0409132.pdf

AckSed
We all know about Venera, the Soviet Union's Venus probes. What surprised me was that the US managed to land a probe on Venus' surface too: Pioneer Venus Not only that, its orbiter was still operating up to 1992. steve9728
There is a company in China that produces beverages called Wahaha. While they have quite a lot of other beverages that sell well in the market, one of their products - purified water - is quite outrageous. Its electrical conductivity is only 1.56. The Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University has tested this water, and the result is that this stuff is also at a completely pure level in the chromatographic purity test. How much is it? Case of 12 bottles, 596ml, 12.9 RMB. What is the result of this? Many laboratories in different subject areas that require the use of purified water are using this bottled water that can be purchased in supermarkets. (As a comparison of purchasing power, 500ml of Coke sells for 3.5RMB) Edited July 25, 2023 by steve9728

Properly designed organisms don't need such ugly workarounds. Spoiler Just think, they have copypasted this small piece 32 times, instead of procedural encapsulation! Yes I assume you can sell it as an health product, here that it tastes bland and flat would be an benefit For lab use it would be nice, at least if you don't use lots of purified water. Well probably the boss of them wants to build their brand in really special way - by being several times better than the national standard lol Their ultra-pure water tastes very similar to distilled water. Very little bit sweeter probably. Edited July 25, 2023 by steve9728

DDE
That octopus thing atop the domed containment structure of a VVER-1200 reactor is a draft-based passive cooling array (SPOT). Should last a couple decades if the reactor is scrambled. Looks suitably sci-fi.
