Now this reminds me of one trying to get his laptop with an mini display port only plug on his laptop trying to connect to an old projector who only had vga plug. 
From mini display port to display, then display  to hdmi, then from hdmi to dvi, and last from dvi to vga, this failed just because the dvi to vga plug was an passive plug require pins for vga in the dvi plug to be active.

I always feel weird reporting because it feels (to me) like an assertion that someone did something wrong, rather than just a "flag for action" like it actually is.
