Info about the first patch

Fixes include:

- Stuck on loading screen
- Maneuver node irregularity
- Docking controls misconfiguration
- Save files corruption

And will arrive in the "coming weeks". Hoping that means in the next week or so, and they're being vague to avoid over-promising in case things slip.

Not a bad set of issues to focus on first, although I'm not 100% sure what "Docking controls misconfiguration" refers to - we have issues with not being able to undock, and undocking craft exploding or becoming debris, hopefully it covers some of those issues. And having the manoeuvre node not get messed up switching between map view would be nice.

Yikes. Hopefully they are going to do a lot more than that. In terms of Game breaking bugs, two of those are WAY down on the list. Can you play the game without great maneuver nodes? Yup, easy. Can you play the game without docking controls? Yup, easy. So far im worried about their priorities. Its concerning but understandable that during development they were working on multiple fronts so that they had a forward looking mission. Multiplayer needed to be integrated from day 1, same with other aspects like interstellar, etc, to make sure it would all be compatible one day. But at this point they should be focused on the most gamebreaking of bugs. That means ships not working, ships not launching, ships falling apart, not to mention performance for most computers without new graphics cards being the #1 priority for this game right now, not even mentioned. Maybe this patch is just about things that they can fix quickly in the next few weeks?

Maybe most of us actually delving deep into the core of the game have not been vocal enough about the real major bugs in the game? Obviously any player who plays for 5 minutes is going to figure out that maneuver nodes are crap, so maybe that why its being focused because its so noticable that everyone mentions it? I hope that they are not prioritizing by how many people complain about something. I mean, I guess I can understand that from some perspective, if you want people to be happy then give the most people what they want. The problem here is assuming that most of these people know what is going to make them happy. Im not sure they do, and I am not sure that fixing maneuver nodes right now is going to make anyone any happier about this game.

and I guess some are going to notice that docking controls dont work. Anyone who knows how to dock already and knows that there are controls for docking, since i dont think its in the tutorial. So I guess those people are going to find out about this bug pretty quick and then want to complain about it.

But again, these are MINOR BUGS that dont break the game in any way. Maneuver nodes sucked in KSP for like a decade. We still got around just fine.

Please, if anyone with a say in these things reads this, prioritize the foundation of the game. That means performance, physics, building ships, launching ships into orbit. In that order. Its like building a skyscraper. Start at the ground floor and work your way up. If you try to build the penthouse before you've built the foundation and frame and all the other stuff you need to support it, you are going to have a bad day.

Or maybe these are simply the easy things that they have managed to fix already? Dont promise something you cant deliver on? The maneuver nodes fix and the docking controls not working should be a super easy fix, although im not a game developer and dont know anything about these sorts of things it seems like something they could fix easily. So maybe thats why they decided to announce those things.

Save files being corrupt should be an easy fix. You look at the save file, you see the problem, you fix the problem. Boom, done.

With the loading screen, its obviously a game breaking bug, so they needed to fix it immediately, and im assuming its again not a super hard to fix issue.

So yea, I amend my opinion. This isnt their priority list at all. Its probably a small list of things they already have fixed, with more that they are working on. Like the kraken.

Hard to fit a full issues list into 280 characters! Those 4 are the major issues we're seeing from the community and that's why we communicated them. I followed up to that tweet and mentioned performance optimizations are also on our radar, but not something guaranteed to come in the next patch.

There are a lot of smaller bugs that are being squashed everyday, from locale fixes to physics corrections. The patch notes will be as detailed as I can make them, promise!

Thanks for the update. I appreciate you.

I don't know.

Super nooodly rockets, SAS going berserk, orbits randomly decaying, fuel drain bug - those are at least as major as the other items. More so in my opinion. Nothing about performance. 'Coming weeks' - quite vague. Doesn't really make me feel more positive.

Will there be another roadmap with game bug fixes? And we also need a second roadmap with a list of disabled features from KSP1, for example with heating, when will they be made? I think developers need to hire a roadmap specialist.

I would argue that the game not loading and saves not working are more major than those

I would agree.
I’d also be fairly surprised if the orbit decay issue isn’t addressed in the first patch. They just made an effort to mention a few of the biggest concerns from the community, doesn’t mean the other things aren’t being worked on.

There's an easy workaround for this at least, just set "JOINT_RIGIDITY": 1.5E+12 in C:\Users\EXG\AppData\LocalLow\Intercept Games\Kerbal Space Program 2\Global\PhysicsSettings.json (replace start of path with whatever's on your system).

I wonder if the first patch will just set this to a big ol number by default for everyone. That seems like extremely low-hanging fruit.

More of a minor point, but I am bit miffed that they direct you to the discord for discussion and to this forum only for reporting bugs :(

I think for more complex discussion this forum is far superior to discord.

And they should have really directed to a longer forum post, not squeeze the issues to be handled in tweets which are just so limited in characters.

My first post on the big issues might be a big harsh, but I still feel it depends on the timing. If the patch comes in 3-4 weeks and doesn't address at least some of the additional items I listed I won't be super hopeful about the future of the game.

Staging, fuel consumption and orbital mechanics just need to be rock solid for this game.

Actually the same thing is copied everywhere, even where more characters are allowed.

Anyway, lets see what this patch brings or it's a refund for me too.

Sounds good and all, but y’all got any of that fuel system optimization news? Three jet engines enabled and my game goes to 6-8 fps on my 5900x and a game speed of about 1/3 - 1/4 real-time. While it may not be the newest CPU, I can certainly understand when a ton of people say that this game is literally unplayable.

Oh and “just use less engines” is the least Kerbal thing I’ve ever heard.

But at least they are working on it and we are finally getting news in the official forum! So there’s that. Thanks for posting this here, I don’t have Twitter.

I've played enough to encounter quite a few of the bugs so far, and agree that terrain rendering performance should really be at the top of the list.  Most bugs I can get around with reloads or rollbacks, or a bit of extra effort (like the maneuver nodes and intercept issues).  The one thing that consistently plagues every game I start is the poor framerate at whatever destination I target.

Reaching a hard-earned destination should be the fun part, not the ragequit part.

Noodly rockets while super annoying is not technically a bug and doesn't even make the game unplayable. Game not saving and saves getting corrupted meanwhile is a really serious issue. That priority order looks fine to me.

I sort of admit that the noodly rockets maybe are a bit less priority, but I'd argue both the fuel crossfeed bug and the unstable orbits issue are.  The orbital mechanics specifically are maybe *the* core element of the game and a big bug with them like that is not a good sign for things to come.

There are a quite a lot of critical issues which means they will have to prioritize among them too. In their shoes I would prioritize crashes and savegame corruptions first, critical bugs in core game mechanics second, everything else third.

There is no need to guarantee that they come in the next or even the second patch. What  needs to be guaranteed is that  you guys see that KSP 2 performance is way below industry standards right now and that  must eventually change.

I think they know this, as most of the reviews, bug reports and YouTube videos are regarding performance. It however it not their main priority

But as I said in my tweet reply to KSP, I'd rather that game breaking bugs get fixed before the performance related issues.
Having a playable unoptimised FPS-game is more fun than an unplayable optimised FPS game
