For everyone concerned about this:

The forum is set to renew on the 2nd of April 2025.

Hopefully everything was set up by the new Private Division correctly for this to work when the time comes.
We will just have to wait and see.

A week of darkness?

Yes, This one ends on the 26th. That one starts on the 2nd of April.

What happens inbetween?

I want to praise whoever had the wisdom to thought to themself:

"Humm... April 1st is not exactly the wisest choice given the current Forum's mood..." :)

Spoiler

What makes me wonder... This next April 1st is going to be interesting...

Absolutely nothing out of the usual.

Invision's License allows the perpetual use of the Software often the License expires, but without updates neither support. And you can renew the License up to one year after the expiring without consequences (and for a smaller fee after that period).

I think it is as @Lisias stated. Also the last time it renewed, I think it renewed before the renew date stated.

Wait, so this entire scare was for nothing?

First and foremost: HUZZAH! HUZZAH! HUZZAH!

Second: how long will this new license be for? Any word on that?

Third: i have never been happier about being wrong.

I don't know if this is the general or majority concern, but for me the major issue wasn't the license itself but what it represented: that the new PD could not or would not support the forums. If they couldn't be bothered to renew the license, what guarantee would we have that they'd resolve other issues? At least now they have a financial incentive to fix stuff since the license fee would be wasted otherwise.

So perhaps it was overblown in that some believed the forums would simply disappear, but imo that's fair and innocent misunderstanding of how the forum software works, not intentional doommongering for the sake of drama.

Not necessarily. Usually (in the sense, almost every time) Companies just don't use unsupported Software. And the reason is simpler than you though: chain of responsibility, also known as: someone to take the blame. :sticktongue:

Companies need someone to "blame" when something breaks, and unsupported Software are essentially blameless.

Some few Companies are bold enough to give the one finger salute to some Software Providers and internalize the know-how needed to keep things running (pretty common on the SAP World), but most of the time letting Support to expire means that the Company is ditching the solution.

It's not the only possible explanation, besides being the usual one. See above.

Sometimes, you just have to cut some costs no matter how because you don't want to ditch the Solution (at least yet), but can't keep it properly neither with the current budget. So you cut costs that causes minimum consequences in the short run, hoping for the best until you are fully budgeted again. And it usually works - keep in mind that we just have notice about the failures, as nobody yells to everybody "Hey! I almost gone bankrupt, but recovered and now I paying everybody again!".

You can bet your favorite mouse that Invision pass trough this situation regularly, and allowing these clients to come back at (almost) any time is a hell of an incentive to prevent losing them to a open source alternative to avoid paying again the full entry price.

To be clear, this is what the software has been saying the whole time. Some people think it is a message of doom, others think it's good news.

EDIT: At least, that's the message I've seen each time I logged in to check over the last few months.

FYI that as far as I am aware no one else can see whatever you can see lol.

No, exactly. I'm currently the only one on the team who can see that. It says nothing more than "Renews: 2 April 2025", just like it has been saying for months.
