That Zenit looks awesome, @XB-70A!

Wow thank you! To be honest I was not expecting any good returns about the look :)

I made it available some hours ago on KerbalX.

Otherwise nothing was planned for the next hours. Another Minmus-Mun-KSC tourist flight to get some funds then just for looking I went to the Astronauts Complex and discovered here an applicant in the name of... Samus Kerman!

No way to miss such a great occasion! Hired!

The first flight will be for the tourist Stephanie under the supervision of Newbro.

The rest was just banal...

I did an integration test of the Heisenberg's new GondoHab (Crew cab, gold stripe), GondoLab (MPL, blue stripe), and GondoGarden (greenhouse, green stripe):

As you can see, it integrates with the Buffalo rover system's chassis.

And yes, that's a piano on the bottom floor of the GondoHab. :)

Appropriately named, Deep Sky presents the Tumbler, a rover with iffy suspension and traction punch. Some sporting kerbals had the great idea to ask for something with wheels and which belches fire. Its propulsion system allows a pilot to pat the throttle and snooze for the longest drive while planetside...or slam the HUD and gain or shed speed like they've lost their mind. The Tumbler needs only be deployed in atmosphere to keep its Turbo, charged, and needs an engineer aboard for when any of those silly brown wheels burst.

I started setting up the infrastructure for a Constellation-style conquering of every body in the game...Including Eeloo!

I'm "curious" to see how that turns out!

I look forward to seeing some of that infrastructure.  I'm currently plotting an Ares inspired mission and a Constellation inspired mission to Duna.  My NASA homage team will be taking two teams on a Hermes inspired crew tranfer to two different habitats on Duna Martian style.  My Russian homage team will be taking a Constellation inspired mission with a few twists if/when I figure out what I'm doing there.  I found that the Constellation Crew Transfer Vehicle (CTV) reminded of a large Soyuz capsule but I'm not far past that on the planning stage.

Today all I did was rebuild my rover and launch it.  Well, also I ran landing simulations (F5 after launch, Alt-12 cheat into orbit, then F9 back).

While I made the faring too wide the launcher completed its missions exactly to spec.

2lwnlfr.jpg

Lift off was fine, it has way too much thrust so I had to keep it dialed back to 1/3 until the SRBs ran out.  It was a very steep launch but it circularized without problem and I got it on an escape burn.  It has a mid course correction, and a considerable one since I'm a ways from my proper launch window) in 11 days, 3 days after the relay halite's maneuver.  If I execute the maneuver correctly it should aerobreak at Duna into a stable orbit, from there landing should follow the simulations (not all pictures are from the same sim).

sqoxht.jpg

The Transfer stage will arrive and use RCS to adjust its decent profile.  In tests setting Peri to 12km from a stable orbit was a smooth landing in practice landing might be quite a bit more hot than that (its plotted to hit a 20km peri as it captures.  I didn't actually try simulating that though.

The heat shield will slow it down some, but Duna's atmosphere is so thin that it will still be barreling down at close to 300 m/s and that's why it has drogue chutes installed.

1w9c5.jpg

Once the chutes open the heat shield is detatched so that I can get a better view of how high up I am.  In the sims I'm usually about 1.3km off the ground when that drops.  The Drogues will only slow me to 50 m/s which isn't nearly enough; so I cut free of them and continue on jets.

1zzmeeq.jpg

Even without any fine control (No signal so it was full speed or no speed) the skycrane does a good job.  My KAS winch wasn't working in tests earlier so I abandoned it for this contraption.  I landed twice successfully without much hassle - first time I didn't decouple correctly and threw the rover back into the air and broke it.

2hzifk3.jpg

I did wind up rebuilding the rover, its a bit smaller but overall I think it looks even better now.  I'm still a long way from "earning" this picture since this was just the simulation but I'm still happy with it.  The Rover is on its way and can land with or without a relay satellite.  It it arrives first I'll have to wait to drive it but not to land it.

After sims Jeb got, creative, with the Minmas mission.

9r4u8n.jpg

After landing the CSM still bolted to the Lem on Minmas the big three got out to play.  Bill and Jeb jet packed back to the CSM but Bob took the ladder not wanting to risk the EVA jets.  On escape Jeb started his burn the wrong way, realized this, cut the LEM loose and turned around burning for Kerbin.

Meanwhile Bob was still in the LEM.  With no probe core, no pilot, and no snacks Bob managed to fly back to the CSM where Jeb took over and docked with him for the rescue.  They are still in orbit as Jeb needs to correct for a Kerbin aerocapture but Bob has some choice words for him and Bill.

The moment scared me for a while because I tend to see Bob as my in game self the way @Kuzzter sometimes uses Bill.  I don't see myself as a good (or even great) engineer, nor do I feel I'm a very good pilot (but I might need to rethink that since I managed this rescue with no SAS or manuver nodes) - instead I tend to see myself in KSP as a dreamer looking for new things to find.  When I realized I might have just killed Bob I was first upset, then thought it fitting considering how much I loved Eve Order zero but Kuzzter.  Then I rescued him.

If I get my Duna mission built and actually launched I think Bob will be in comand of one of the two teams.  He's earned it.

Had a near-emergency rescue mission to add

Finally made the last correction burn on a 180 inclined satellite's orbit for a contract.  The launch was several days ago.  Was paid handsomely for what is now a permanent relay satellite.

Designed, built, and launched Kerbin Prime Station to fulfill a contract.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that a Skipper (plus two Kickbacks and two Thumpers) was enough to get three Hitchhikers, a Cupola, a full 2.5m Service Bay, Mk1-2 and Mk1 Capsule into orbit on an Orange Tank of fuel.  The SRBs were staged off as intended, and the Skipper core was designed for recovery after circularization, but did not survive reentry heating because no probe core was provided to face the engine retrograde.  Next, Val will detach and land the Capsules, lowering the Station's max occupancy from 17 (contract required 15) to 13.  Since the Station is equipped with two Docking Port Standard and two Junior, it can easily be expanded.  The Station will then sit vacant for a few orbits, acting as a very large comm relay, until a larger crew transport is built to bring up some of the rescued Kerbals who got a bit too comfortable in zero G and are getting antsy around KSC.

At approximately 20,000 funds worth of equipment, loss of the Station's Skipper core was a pricey miscalculation.  Small potatoes in the overall scheme though - the above 180 Satellite contract completion paid 100,000 funds and the Station completion paid nearly 80,000.  The Station plus Core and Boosters cost about 75,000.  Ah well, at least the signing bonus was pure profit.  And again, the 180 Satellite's total cost (Core, Booster and Payload) was peanuts - less than 30,000 funds.  I believe the Core there was recovered, returning approximately 7,000 funds.  Adding the completion, signing bonus, and parts recovered, that one contract cleared well over 100,000 credits.  No quite as much as some of the Tourism contracts, but a lot less mess and customer service (ugh!!) involved.

should be getting out of work a little early today. So I plan to bolster up the com net and send a probe on a fly by of Duna. We'll see where it ends up after the fly by. Hopefully Duna will swing me out and get some more gravity assists for my fly bys.

Maybe Duna now! Try to orbit (possibly land) and come back to Kerbin!
