What did you do in KSP1 today?

Today I made my most ambitious use of KIS/KAS yet ( I know, I'm sure others have done much more. Baby steps...). I had a mission to recover Lizdun and her wreckage from Eve, so I rendezvoused my Gilly Miner that was already in the system to see what I was dealing with. It turned out to be a Mk1 passenger cabin, which should be easy. So I EVA'd over an engineer with a spare part container strapped to his back (first time I've made use of that feature) and bolted on a clamp-o-tron, and docked the Miner to it. So ends phase 1. When the next Eve window opens up, I'll send out a return vehicle attach another port, dock to the cabin and bring it back. It should be fine on top of a Mk1-3 capsule.

Also, for the first time (that I've noticed) in five years of playing this game, I finally found a MunCastle! I'm sure KIS/KAS had nothing to do with it!

One of these days I really have to go looking for a Green Meanie. Still haven't stumbled across one, but I haven't really looked either...

I had a contract to visit the anomaly around the arctic, so I cobbled together a rocket plane with folding wings & stuck it on top of a 1.25m launcher.  Stuck Jeb in the cockpit & pushed it out to the Woomerang launch site.  By some miracle - or perhaps the kraken was away, busy trying to kill kerbals after falling off a ladder <1m above the surface of Mun - this thing flew wonderfully!!!   Got up to ~85k Ap, then glided down, circled back due to overshooting the anomaly, which also put me in good shape for a landing on the ice sheet before using the last 60 m/s dV to taxi into the hills where the anomaly is.  Once I stopped, it of course promptly fell over since the gear are mounted so close together.  But still - mission accomplished!!

Then I went on to test a new Mun/Minmus lander design with another Mun arch landing.  Sufficient dV to bring a pair of kerbals from KSC to a Mun landing & return.   The bonus is the lower stage of the lander carries most of the batteries & science gear, plus a simple probe core & solar panels, so it becomes a ground station to complete future "collect science" contracts.  And that all came off perfectly as well.  I'm about due to lose a few kerbals now.

Work in progress. After having built a bunch of two-stroke engines this might be the first four-stroke ever. A twin but I might make it a three or four cylinder. Stock + DLC. Unknown what kind of torque it will deliver but I can tell you this: the stroke is 5 meters. Thrust will probably be provided by two or three Wheesley's per cylinder. There will be three cams per cylinder, two for the valves and one for blocking the thrust of the jets. Valve guides are complete, rocker arms are not. Valve springs are going to be a headache unless I choose Juno's to close them or go for a desmodromic construction a la Ducati. Tests with landing legs or wheels didn't provide the results I'm looking for.

Mass & part count when finished: probably 150t, 500 parts.

I'm working on a mod that rearranges the Kerbol system into a relatively accurate recreation of the four-planet model (e, b, c, and d) of Gliese 581.

First is Moho, then Jool, then Kerbin, then Laythe (with rings :O)

(Yeah the images are a bit choppy but eh)

It's definitely still a huge WIP.

"Check out my hole!"

So I was flying around to gather some science when I saw this interesting spot close to the North pole.

I had enough fuel to check it out and make it back to the base so I did.

Mun + Minmus + Hole :

It's awesome, I need to fly a sub out here to check it out #challenge

I'm going to do this all stock in career mode and I haven't unlocked the parts I need yet (I think). . .

@Triop  Ohhhhhh... looks like a good place for a super-extra-secret submerged Fortress of Kerbitude!

Yes, good idea.

I'll try to drop a base module in there.

A base and detachable sub would be perfect, but I don't think my skills are up for it.

But I keep challenging myself to keep the game interesting ^_^.

First the mountain and now this. You lead quite the "space" program @Triop

I'm not a space guy, I can land on Mun and Minmus but that's about it.

It's not that I don't want to, but I can't even randevous in orbit, and I refuse using mods.

Thanks for following my adventures

Is there a particular reason? Im just curious.

Yes, thanks for asking.

I could use mods to do my flying, docking, but where is the fun in that ?

I think most ksp players can't even dock without mods, correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't mind mods, I like visual mods and BDA.

But for now I want to stay vanilla in career mode to see how far I can come.

I cant dock even with mods, so Im trying to learn. As for visuals, yeah I love those. I get what you mean with the stock career thing, but I love my Planet mods too.

Yeah, I'm hoping more people will go there and report.

But tbh I was a little bit dissapointed that nobody went to climb Mount Doom.

But hey, we all have our own agenda in KSP. &)

I considered it but I knew I wouldn't be able to find/recognize the mountain. I'm really bad at navigation.

I understand, didn't I post the coordinates ?

Anyway, best reference to the location I had was this picture ^_^

Kinda cool, a place no one can find . . . My secret mountain.

I made it a challenge, maybe somebody will be stupid enough to do this (like me).

@Triop  Well that looks interesting, going to have to check this out.

I went back & launched my little folding-wing rocket plane from the runway just for fun and, well, Jeb says "Thank you!" for the cockpit ejection system, because this thing is pretty much uncontrollable taking off from the runway.  I know the fuel weight is a factor, but I tried again with it almost empty & it wasn't much better.  Now I'm really amazed it flew so nice to landing after vertical launch & reentry.

I haven't actually launched a manned mission to Duna yet. :P

EDIT 1: Now I have.
