That's what I get for not using mods! I know I lost a good chunk of score from having no difficulty enhancing mods. 5.025! Unless I did my math wrong. Only things I haven't done are returns from Eve and Moho.

It means that you should add .25 for every question before(excluding optional question 1) that REMAINS yes, even when you only take revertless saves into account. I hope you understand what I mean.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, I mostly agree with the criticism aimed at the questionnaire. Keep in mind that it was made on the go by me, and I never really expected many people to do it. I'd actually like to make a new one, taking into account all the suggestions/criticism in this post, so feel free to give suggestions for new questions. I'll collect the ones I(and others) think are good from this thread, and use them in a new version(if there is enough interest). Keep in mind that, in the new version, points would also be assigned through suggestion since I think that the main problem with this quiz is the unbalanced amount of points on some questions.

So 188/20 = 9.4

According to the results until now, there seem to be quite some skilled players arount. But the numbers are not representative yet.

And keep in mind, a skilled player might be more interested in reading and writing in the forum than the 'average' ksp player who might not visit the forum at all. That also undermines the value of this poll. I predict there are a lot of skilled players in the average of this forum, but not so many in the average of ALL ksp players.

I too think this poll is a bit biased. An active forum member is likely to be more skilled than a player who never/rarely visits the forums. In all fairness to OP though, the only way to make a non-biased poll is to incorporate it into the game so that no-one could miss it.

Also, I think some people missed the "divide your score by 20" line and just selected the highest value in the poll, leading to some inflated stats.

OK mk sounds good. I have a 7 now so that's a bit better :P. I definitely need to return from Moho and Eve's surface. I hope you do make another questionnaire! This one was nice.

Sure, do it, people generally enjoy this type of thread. The original really wasn't that bad at all, it just focuses more on events than skills. One suggestion I might make when you go for a re-do is to keep in mind the point reward for Jool stuff because of its big SOI and large atmosphere to slow down in. Moho, Eeloo, and even Dres are actually harder to get to than Jool because of a combination of factors unique to each. The bigger Jool moons are fairly challenging in their own right, but Bop and Pol are cake.

- Fly an RPM enabled, IVA only trip to the Mun

I thought this was without mods? ;)

You got me there :D I had to mention it because it was some of the most fun I've had with KSP; nearly impossible without good MFD's (though illectro has done it), so had to be done with RPM.

Q: Have you ever achieved a stable orbit around Kerbin?(2 points)

Yup. 2

Q: Have you ever landed and returned from the Mun?(4 points)

Yup.. 2+4=6

Q: Have you ever landed and returned from Minmus?(4 points)

Yup. 6+4=10

Q: On how many objects outside the Kerbin system(which includes Kerbin, the Mun and Minmus) have you landed on(doesn't have to be a return mission)(2 points per object, or 24 if you've landed on all)

All. 10+24=34.

Q: Have you ever successfully docked?(10 points)

Yup. 34+10=44

Q: Have you ever intercepted an asteroid?(16 points)

Yup. 44+16=60.

Optional question 1(if you use mods): How many of the following difficulty enhancing mods: TAC life support, Remote Tech, Deadly Reentry, FAR, RSS; have you used at the same time in a save?(4 points per mod)

This one seems pretty specific but hey who am I to judge? I've used 3 at the same time, so 60+12=72

Q: On which of the following objects outside the Kerbin system have you done successful return missions: Duna(2.5 points), Ike(2.5 points), Dres(5 points), Moho(5 points), Gilly(5 points), Laythe(10 points), Vall(10 points), Bop(10 points), Pol(10 points), Tylo(15 points), Eeloo(15 points), Eve(30 points)

All. 72+120=192

192/20=9.6. Only points lost were due to not using TAC life support and RSS (both of which I find add too much drudgery to the game to be worth the added difficulty)

The main problem with this sort of thing is as I eluded to earlier. Different people find different things easy or difficult so how can you put a score to that? Creating a new one won't fix that it will just skew it in another direction. I would just keep this one (unless you just really want to do it again), don't be discouraged by people's comments (including mine), it is a discussion forum and people will discuss, but that is not to say this is a bad poll or anything of the kind.

The thing is, there are actually only a few actions you do in this game, in different ways.

There's Getting to orbit, Getting to Muns, Docking, Getting to other planets, Aerobreaking to capture, Capturing on planets without atmosphere. Landing on Mun sized targets without atmosphere, Landing on Kerbin sized targets without atmosphere, Landing with atmosphere. Then there's also basic construction skills. Thrust to weight, deltaV, building stable rockets that don't fall apart

O and there's spaceplanes. But I can't do that, so I don't have a clue what skills that involves

Everything you do is just an extention, or combination, of those skills

Scored a solid 3.

I still run a stock game, and I don't revert anymore ( I used to a lot when I was learning the game). I've landed and colonized everywhere (but more Kerbals have died trying to reach Tylo than have actually survived the landing), but I haven't really attempted return missions except one to Duna just to see if I could do it. Since none of the contracts have ever required a return mission, I just haven't had much call to try them. Same with asteroids. That's the only reason my score isn't as high as it could be. ;.;

Perhaps include a question asking how long each player has been playing the full game (or more). FYI, I started playing the full game in late May of this year - I hope in a few years my stuff will look like the beautiful stuff I've seen here on the forums.

10. Although I've never played without revert/reload. It would be way too frustrating to start a mission over after the Kraken crashes the game.

Also, I'm horrible at building spaceplanes. Maybe that should count for some points since a lot of people seem to be skillful at that (like Scott Manley).

2 (Kerbin orbit)

4 (Mun return)

4 (Minmus return)

16 (landings: Duna, Ike, Eve, Laythe, Vall, Bop, Pol, Tylo)

10 (successfully docked)

16 (asteriod intercept)

16 (mods in current save: TAC life support, Remote Tech, Deadly Reentry, FAR)

60 (return missions: Duna, Ike, Laythe, Vall, Bop, Pol, Tylo)

Total: 128 / 20 = 6.4

I definitely don't consider myself an expert player, or even a very good player. Just having fun doing cool stuff.

2 + 4 + 4 + 6 + 10 + 16 + (4 + 4 + 4 + 4) + [skip optional question 2, i use mods.] + (2.5 + 10)

70.5 / 20

3.525 (round up to 4)

I think I deserve more...But eh, I've been to a lot of bodies out of kerbin but haven't really landed or returned on a lot. Mainly satellites on some.

But I love the difficulty mods.

I have the capability to successfully do these things but I just lack the interest in getting all the way there at the current time.

164/20 8.2

often use all the mods except RSS. I've landed something everywhere landable and only eve has not had a manned return to date. Done some test runs of various designes but never launched a legit mission to do it.

as to remakeing the quiz I'd honestly rate moho return as higher than gilly on the difficulty scale. Eve and duna are comperable in difficulty to reach their orbits and gilly isnt even remotely difficult to land on once you get there, at best I'd rate it on par with ike. Moho on the other hand is rather difficult to achieve orbit around and has a surface gravity similar to duna without the atmosphere to aid landing. I think it should be at least worth as much as the random 10pt jool moons if not more considering jool is a much easier target to reach. I also think your optional questions need work, #2 in particular was rather confuseing.

Agreed. Gilly has a small gravity well, but you've already sunk most of your fuel cost by the time you get there. Mainly it just take patience, more than skill or expertise.

Yes. (2)

Yes. (4)

Yes. (4)

All of them. (24)

Many times. (10)

About half-a-dozen times, before I got bored with giving Kerbin new moons. (16)

I use TAC and FAR together. (8)

I use so many mods. (eh)

Again, all of them. (120)

Total: 188 (9.4)

Yeah, I'm something of a long-timer. Most of that stuff I've had literally years to perfect.
