  1. The KSP is developing a new extremely lightweight SSTO design. They need your help to create one! (I know this is probably a common challenge but it would be nice to revive it) Rules: 1. The SSTO can take off from the runway or the launchpad, but not from anywhere else (this will be noted in your entry) 2. The SSTO can be manned or unmanned (there will be two leaderboards for this) 3. The score is solely based on mass (the size of the craft doesn't matter) 4. No Kraken drives, use of eva packs (this counts as a second stage) or other cheaty methods 5. The apoapsis and periapsis of the orbit must be above the Karman line 6. The SSTO doesn't have to be able to deorbit and land itself 7. If it wasn't already extremely obvious, it is a Kerbin SSTO 8. As evidence, you must have a video or screenshots of key events in the mission with fuel gauges left visible (leave the UI on) 9. If there's anything you think I should add to the rules tell me (criticism and feedback will be greatly appreciated) Smallest Manned SSTO Smallest Unmanned SSTO 1. TheFlyingKerman (3.687t) 1. TheFlyingKerman (0.985t) 2. Vyznev (3.984t) 2. 3. 3. 4. 4. I will start to design a craft of my own soon!
  2. using only rover wheels get into orbit around any body, secondary thrusters can be used to keep the craft on the ground longer but not to increase the craft's acceleration directly. the tiers are: easy: use rover wheels on a moon to get into orbit around a planet medium: use rover wheels on a planet or moon with atmosphere to get into orbit hard: use rover wheels to generate enough speed to get into orbit around the sun good luck to all, this challenge may be impossible.
  3. Your mission is simple create the smallest plane possible. 1. The lower the score the better. 2. Add width, length, and height to get your score. 3. Only Jet engines are allowed 4. Part clipping is allowed, as long as You do not go overboard. Here is my submission to kick things off. Leaderboard Name Score Rank Rocket in my pocket 3.7 1 KingDomino111 4.5 2 Klapaucius 7.4 3 Lapis 11 4
  4. after I saw sky vagrant's X craft video I thought it would be cool to have a challenge based on the idea of taking a toy or model of some sort and making a ksp craft based on it. whoever makes the best recreation of one of the three lego's below by the end of may, wins the challenge
  5. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2182158-moons-can-have-moons-and-they-are-called-moonmoons/ We all know about moonmoons. I think the article puts it best: "moons can have moons, and they're called moonmoons." This challenge is simple. Capture an asteroid, and give a moon a moon. It doesn't matter which moon in KSP is moon'd. Entrants will be sorted by mass of the completed moon. You're welcome to stitch asteroids together, too. Bonus points for far away moons. Winners get the badge below! If you want to make a better one, please do; I'm not very good at GIMP. ENTRANTS: KingDominoIII - 884 tonnes Sky Vagrant - 415 tonnes Johnster_Space_Program - 143 tonnes SecondChance - 114 tonnes
  6. I’ve never tried but, can anyone make a rover that can JUMP THE DRES CANYON? I’m new here, so I’ll consider it another challenge. Please try at home, and send me videos. Even if you fail. I like explosions.
  7. Hello, and welcome to the munar base collaboration challenge, where we as a community will be working together to build a mun base under restrictions, like a budget! (Inspired by the Kerbin Collaborative Space Station Challenge by @Ultimate Steve) The Beginning Its been about 50 years since KASA has first went and landed on the mun. KASA hasn't been back since then, and people are urging them to return. KASA has given us a total budget of 1.75 million kilofunds (AKA 1,750,000 funds) to build a mun base that will deliver crews and tourists to and from the base. The base will be called Munbase One. In this challenge, the participants will help construct the base using existing rockets to launch each part they have created and landers. We will be sharing and passing around a savefile that I have created to accomplish this. LKO is a 100km orbit. The Rules No Cheating, No savefile editing, No controlling other people's parts, only your ones, Everyone must work together, You Must Use An Existing Rocket For Launches, No Creating New Ones, You Can Do Simulation/Test Launches Before The Actual Launch That Costs Funds For "No Cost In The Budget", You Must Use Stock KSP, No MH The Launch Vehicles/Rockets There are 6 launch vehicles to choose from. You must use one of them for launching, not make a new one. You cannot change fairing size, unless you want to pay an extra 12,500 funds. Rocket 1 - Ares IIB Cost: 17.1k. Tons To LKO/TLI: 3.5 tons. Flies Once Every: 25 days. Ares IIB is NOT Kerbal Rated (Meaning Kerbals Cannot Fly On It) Rocket 2 - KLS Cost: 103k. Tons To LKO/TLI: 20 tons. Flies Once Every: 100 days. KLS IS Kerbal Rated (Meaning Kerbals Can Fly On It) Rocket 3 - Katurn III Cost: 52k. Tons To LKO/TLI: 12 tons, but can be pushed to 13.5 tons. Flies Once Every: 60 days. Katurn III IS Kerbal Rated (Meaning Kerbals Can Fly On It) Rocket 4 - MV12 Cost: 24k. Tons To LKO/TLI: 5 tons. Flies Once Every: 35 days. MV12 Is NOT Kerbal Rated (Meaning Kerbals Cannot Fly On It) Rocket 5 - Kova VT6 Cost: 67k. Tons To LKO/TLI: 16.5 tons. Flies Once Every: 72 days. Kova VT6 Is NOT Kerbal Rated Rocket 6 - Ares IIC Cost: 25k. Tons To LKO/TLI: 8 tons. Flies Once Every: 40 days. Ares IIC IS Kerbal Rated Participation and Launch Plan Everyone that participates will each build their own separate part for the base. The parts will also be launched in order, one at a time. We also have to decide where on the mun is the base place to build the base, once we agree on the best spot on the mun to build it, then we can start construction. We also have to not go over budget, or the challenge is lost. Restrictions These are the restrictions for everyone that participates: Here is the current launch plan, if you want to launch a part that someone else hasn't chosen, tell me in a post below. Participants: @Johnster_Space_Program @Rocket_man1234 @Bill the Kerbal @Ultimate Steve @VA7NFH The Launchers (All 6 Rockets .craft files): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eYiKDHjDFTGyF-UsH-T1Got8aJB4b8ME/view?usp=sharing Mun Base Plan Spreadsheet (Add To It!): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10E4nOUEnGMonw6QJEy7B7FKFzueSDRLnwy4RXsGcD38/edit?usp=sharing To Everyone That Participates, Good Luck!

  10. From here on, I think I’ll make KSP challenges every Saturday. this week’s challenge: build a seaplane, BUT, it also is a submarine! Bronze: make a seaplane Silver: make a submarine seaplane gold: on Laythe. Good luck, Fly safe!
  11. Welcome to the... KSP Stock Prop Design Challenge! The aim of this challenge is to create the coolest looking stock prop designs you can! Your plane will be judged mostly on appearance and as such, speed and performance won't be judged very harshly; as long as it flies, and flies well enough it's okay (though good performance is always good to have). The goal of this challenge is to create a plane that fits both the requirements and aesthetics of what a contract of your choice says. The contracts will range from 1920s-30s biplanes to post WW2 superprops. There will be no definitive winner to this challenge, but aircraft I especially enjoy will have a spot on this original post. Please lay out your submission like this: [Contact No. XY][Generation (biplane, ww2 etc)][Manufacturer name/author(s)][Craft name][Description][Pictures (max 3)][Download link (preferably on KerbalX)] Guidelines/Rules 1) Unless otherwise stated in the contract, the plane must fly only with stock propellers. 2) The Design MUST be original and NOT a replica. 3) Stock designs only. DLC is not allowed. 4) Part clipping/craft file editing is allowed. ----- The Idea The idea for this challenge was blatantly ripped off HB Stratos' and Servo's Original Jet Fighter challenge. If you've stumbled here but aren't a fan, or don't know how to make props, visit their challenge instead: Major thanks to HB Stratos for letting me actually make this challenge even it's literally the same thing. ----- The Contracts Biplane Era ----- WW2 Era ----- Postwar Era --- Hall of Fame! @Jon144's fantastic K4F Scimitar is on the list because of it's superb performance; the best so far! While not as detailed as some of the other props, it's fast, and maneuverable enough to compensate. Good job! --- @erasmusguy's HF-108 fantastically detailed. It doesn't quite fit a category, but looks superb. I appreciate the detail added to it; especially the little men/RCS tanks. Well done. --- @Phantomic's P-45 bolt just looks like a plane straight from WW2. It has nice clean lines and isn't a bad flier either. Fits the contract almost perfectly. Great work! ----
  12. Welcome to the Kerbal Bracket Challenge! A New Challenge By Johnster Space Program! 14. The goal of this challenge: Earn enough science to research every technology in as few launches as possible. Participants should create a new science mode game on normal difficulty, or a normal base difficulty with the Comm Network turned off or modified. Weight limit: All launches must be below 250 tons. Tie breaker: Total science gathered is the tie breaker if multiple submissions use the same number of launches. All science around one pod: At the start of each launch, designate a main command pod (or probe core if unmanned). All science gathering activities (experiments run, samples gathered, etc.) for that launch need to happen in the exact same biome as that main pod. For the purpose of this challenge, the launch pad and other KSC buildings are not the same biome, nor is being in a different vertical area of the same nominal biome (i.e no science when landed on the Greater Flats if your main pod is in low orbit above the Greater Flats). The only exception is that doing an EVA report above the surface (by jumping etc.) in the immediate vicinity of a landed command pod is permitted. Command seats are not command pods for the purpose of this challenge. No clipping (mostly): Only clipping of structural parts, wings, and heat shields is allowed. Clipping of anything else is not permitted, except in very minor circumstances such as ~5% of a part overlapping with another. What's a launch? A launch is any time something is put on the runway or launch pad (and isn't reverted). Even if it doesn't leave the ground, it's still a launch. Assembling a ship in orbit from multiple launches counts as multiple launches. Banned parts: No ISRU (drills/refiners) - Obtaining pretty much all the science in the game is possible with a single ISRU launch, which would be quite tedious. No Mobile Processing Lab - Unlimited science breaks this challenge. No Ion Propulsion - Their crazy DV can be a big advantage in a weight and launch limited challenge, and I don't want anyone feeling like they are missing out if they don't wish to endure ultra long burn times. No EVA pushing: Eva pushing is not allowed. Mods: Using any non-stock parts, changing parts, changing physics, or anything similar is not permitted. Informational mods, piloting mods, and automatic science mods are fine, as long as they aren't allowing you to accomplish something that wouldn't normally be possible. Showing biome locations using the debug menu is allowed. Submission guidelines: Challengees should submit screenshots or video showing the vessels used for each launch, the exact science obtained when the launch mission is complete, and a brief summary of where most of the science was obtained. More detailed information such as craft files and mission reports are encouraged but not mandatory. Happy sciencing! Leaderboard: 1. 2 launches, 19317.6 science - bayesian_acolyte
  15. So: this is how the challenge goes: RULES: 1: NO: Cheats, Debug menu, and hyper edit. 2: NO: decoupler's, or Separator's!! IF YOU WERE ALLOWED: THERE WOULD BE NO CALLENGE! 3: A Saparator or decoupler is replaced with a docking port 4: SSTO's are allowed, as long as the crewed part is able to dock. (SSTO's will need to also releace a probe into orbit.) CHALLENGE: Easy: Land a 50+ ton lander on the mun. Medium: Land on duna with a 100+ ton lander. (Returns to kerbin crewed) Hard:Land on tylo with a 50+ ton Lander. (Returns to kerbin crewed) Extreme: Land on Eeloo with a 33+ lander (Returns to kerbin crewed) Custom: I do NOT limit creativity, do as you want to. HAVE FUN!!
  16. Description: - Start and stop within the runway. - Under 10 tons - Under 123 parts - No SRB(Solid Rocket Booster)〜said Jebediah Kerman - Stock parts only - No mod applied (E.g. TweckScale) - No cheats - Impress Jebediah Kerman Let the challenge begin!
  17. After looking at falcon 9 videos, I decided to make this challenge MISSION: Mission today is to build a rocket that nearly every part is recoverable. DIFFICULTY: Easy: Get to the mun and back Difficult: Get to mun AND Minmus and back Hard: See where you can go. RULES: NO SSTO's they are 100% reusable also too easy. No fairings (engine ones are allowed) You can't recover a fairing. No Cheats No debug menu, no hyperedit. No Decouplers unless they stay WITH the rocket All things recoverable MUST land on kerbin. No trivial mods (FMRS is not trivial) Lets see how this goes...
  18. This idea came to me while doing a challenge from discord, which was to launch 5 different sattelites to 5 different celestial bodies, where of 2 of them are different planets, in one launch. So of course, I said to myself, lets launch sats to every single planet and moons, but I taught too : if this was possible in one ejection burn from LKO...., and it is !! But it was kinda a headache haha Because of the sick flybies, and launch windows. As this is quite a long mission report, I'll split it in multiple posts, to avoid having a 47 km long one, but for those who wants, here is already the complete mission, with minimum set of mandatory pics (was for the challenge submission) : https://imgur.com/a/ogUlZKJ So here's the rocket, pretty simple: And the upper/transfer stage, with sats stacked on top of it The plan is to launch all this stuff to Eve, and when needed, release some Sats along the way, so they can follow their own path to their respective destination. the mission uses the following general path: K - E - K - K - Jool (same as Galileo) for Eve sats, obviously, only K - Eve. for Duna sats: K - E - Duna. for Moho: K - E - E - Moho. (Same as Messenger, but without the multiple Moho flybies, unuseful in my case) for Dres: K -E - K - Dres for jools sats K - E - K - K - Jool. And for Eeloo, K - E - K - K - J - Eeloo (with insertion in Jool orbit to wait for the Jool-Eeloo window) Next post, I'll cover the mission from launch to Eve arrival
  19. A couple of days ago, The tracking station at the Kerbal Space Center has detected an asteroid that is on a collision course with Kerbin. Although it is no bigger than a class "C", which is not an "Extinction Event Class", it is big enough to cause mass devastation in the southern regions of Kerbin, where it is headed. Unfortunately, this asteroid (informally named "Rider of the Karmageddon") was detected when it already entered the sphere of Kerbin's influence, which meant that due to the current level of technology, the U.K.R.S.A cannot intercept the asteroid. Furthermore, the current tracking technology forbids us to accurately calculate the place where the asteroid will impact, and it will take a lot of time and effort to evacuate the whole southern region. So we decided to keep this a secret until we come up with a plan to remove this threat. This is why I am writing this topic. I need your help to tackle this threat with any legal means possible. Here is all the data we know. - The asteroid is in a highly eccentric trajectory, which is on a collision course with Kerbin. This diagram represents the trajectory of the asteroid: *not to scale - The asteroid has passed its Ap - It is headed for the southern region, coming from the down from the south pole. - It is estimated that the steroid will hit in a matter of days. Mission Objective: Eliminate the threat without cheats or "OP" mods like warp drives etc. Here is a save file for the challenge: https://protect-eu.mimecast.com/s/lRzzCANODiywPktGY2IP?domain=dropbox.com
  20. Hello! I have a new challenge that I would like you to try called Extreme Career Mode! As it sounds, its like a hard career mode but more extreme and difficult. So far I've only done suborbital flights in the extreme mode, but I will try orbital flights soon. The 2 most important things you need to get in this custom settings mode in extreme career are funds and science. Here are the settings you need when starting a new career to attempt my Extreme Career Mode: Re-entry heating: 120% Starting Funds: 5,000 Science Rewards: 20% (1/5 of the normal science you'd get) Funds Rewards: 30% (About 1/3 of the normal funds you'd get) Reputation Rewards: 30% (About 1/3 normal reputation you'd get) Funds Penalties: 300% (3x average penalty) Reputation Penalties: 300% (3x average reputation penalty) Decline Penalty: 4 (Bigger losses if you decline a contract) As you play through this challenge in career and attempt it, tell me below how its going (via pictures or a reply)! I will also update you on how i'm doing in Extreme Career Mode as well, I hope you try it! Also, like Iso-Polaris said, I recommend you do this challenge with these mods, to make it more fair/balanced:
  21. Hello Fellow Kerbonauts, We know from the Impact the Mun challenge that it is possible to fly to and crash something on the Mun in a mere 12 min. This is a great first step towards adding boosters to stuff in order to go fast, but only shooting the Mun isn’t that useful, right? This challenge aims at proving that our rockets can be fast and useful. So for this challenge, you’ll not only need to reach the surface of the Mun as fast as possible, but to also bring a rock back to Kerbin as a proof you got there and to demonstrate the scientific relevance of adding moar boosters. Rules : Depart from KSC Reach the surface of the Mun Take a surface sample Bring it home Your place on the leaderboard depends on your mission time when the sample lands on the ground Challenge ends on the 28/02/2019 at 00h00 UTC (just one month; how handy) Not limit on the number of boosters used (obviously) Rockets or planes, It doesn’t matter Undock/dock as many times as you want Launch as many vessels as you want, but the timer starts when the first vehicle takes/lifts off and ends when the sample gets to the ground (show METs on the tracking station screen if you used multiple vessels) Land, bounce or lithobrake on the Mun, as long as you manage to take a sample and bring it back Only the surface sample has to make it to Kerbin’s surface (but the Kerbal can land as well) No Kerbal should be armed in the process, though. This includes the command chair; no prolonged use, not in harmful environment. The surface of the ocean is part of Kerbin’s surface We need the sample (mostly) intact for the science we’ll get from it, so smashing it on the ground doesn’t count if whatever contains/carries it gets destroyed/killed No fiddling with the cfg files, hyperedit, Kraken exploit, etc. Stay fairplay. Latest versions of the game only (when was the last aerodynamics update? 1.0.5?) No DLC engines or fuel tanks Pictures are good, videos are good(er). In any case, make us understand and enjoy. Multiple submissions are allowed. Mods : If you used any, provide the list Stock aerodynamics Stock engines and fuel tanks Modded fairings and wings are allowed Nothing that messes with the physics engine Ask the permission to use anything else than mods that blatantly do not interfere with the challenge (RemoteTech is OK, Alcubierre drive is not OK) Awards : Precision delivery : Have the sample landing next to the KSC facilities so that our scientists can start analyzing it as fast as possible. Relay race : Bring the sample back with a different ship that the one which brought your Kerbal to the Mun Sepratron : I like the separation (who doesn’t?). Use sepratrons as a significant source of thrust in your design to please me and earn this award. Full throttle : Do it the most kerbal way and maintain full throttle for all the duration of the mission (with empty stages for the landing?). It probably is not possible and certainly is not reasonable, but I know how crazy some people are. Vanilla addict : Stock and only stock. No mod award. Temporary leaderboard (last edit : 04/02) : @Laie - 1h 19m with a good amount of boosters and an interesting packaging design. (Prev. time : 1h 30m 43sec) Rewards : No pics, no submits Nice badges like this one : I will make some with medals and awards when I find the time. Feel free to recommend other awards if you think of any. Same for rules amendment if I missed anything. Also, if anyone else feels like remaking/improving the badges or making medals, please go ahead, I’m not that confident with Gimp Photoshop. Fly fast!
  22. Landing and return for once, something really satisfying, but usually not so challenging, because of small lazy rockets to get there, however, since it's quite easy, it's possible to land on a certain body for at least TWICE, TWICE the ascent, TWICE the landing and TWICE the re-entry. Rules : -No Docking. (except if your PC cant handle a Mun and back 2x vessel) -No ISRU. -No Trivializing Mods (mods that make it trivial), structural Mods are welcome. -Have screenshots of important moments. (Videos are welcome) -NO CHEATING (Debug menu or Hyperedit or such). -Seabed landings are fine. -No external seats (except if you have a good reason for that). -All versions are welcome, all details will be listed. -No vessel recovering, except when you're done, but you need to land on Kerbin before another launch. This Challenge was inspired by : The Gamer Alchemist, Hazard-ish and @Stratzenblitz75 and also @EvermoreAlpaca Links : Mun and back twice. Mun and back 3 times (probably cheating, but still good). Duna and back 3 times (The Gamer Alchemist). Duna and back 3 times (Stratzenblitz75). Eeloo and back twice. LIST OF SUCCESFUL ENTRIES (ONLY KERBAL FORUM USERS THAT ARE MENTIONED) Rocket Division (Vertical launch, ISP up to 800) : -@Stratzenblitz75 (Duna and back 3 times, used an IMMENSE full chemical beast that also visited Minmus during second mission, Video up there) -@GRS (Dres and back 2 times, Album here) Spaceplane Division (Horizontal launch, ISP at least 800 except RAPIER's closed cycle mode) : -@EvermoreAlpaca (Eeloo and back 2 times, used an small-ish ion SSTO with a "seat in service bay" Video up there)
  23. This challenge is based off an idea I had and I wondered if it was possible. It's obviously possible, but I lack skills. So here's the challenge: NORMAL MODE: Start up a Career game, then go to either the VAB or SPH, and with ONLY the beginning (Tier 1) parts, make a vessel and fly it to Duna. EXPERT MODE: Same, but fly the rocket to Laythe. Good luck and have fun! P.S. videos pls EDIT: After realizing what the tier 1 parts really are, I've made the challenge do it with tiers 1 and 2.
  24. Today im challenging you to try and beat my 0.4 ton unmanned mun lander satellite/spacecraft (aka the smallest satellite w/engine), which was originally supposed to be just a satellite that would orbit kerbin but when I decided to try and land it on the mun it was able to with extra fuel to return back to kerbin! This is the craft, you download it if you want: https://kerbalx.com/JohnsterSpaceProgram/Smallest-Satellite-wEngine
  25. Hi all, this is my first challenge, so hope it works out... To celebrate the success of the Carbart Lithobraker, the engineers at the VAB have cooked up a prize, the Pizza. There's just one small issue: for "structural integrity", the engineers used aerodynamic fins. Of course, this was fine until the manager of the KSC revealed that they wanted the pizza to be sliced live. So now, they need something to 'cut' it. Basically, destroy all of the gray/yellow aero fins. Rules: You must destroy all of the yellow fins. This can be done by pointing an engine at it, hitting it with something, etc. By no means are these the only methods, though. Do not destroy any other parts on the 'pizza' No HyperEdit, debug cheats, or using part offset to spawn the craft high up, to the side, etc No Whack-a-Kerbal No two-capsule rollers or the like (ex. two mk1 capsules attached together and spun around) VesselMover is recommended to move the 'pizza' to any location; however, VesselMover can't be used to move your craft that will complete the challenge; if the pizza cutter is connected to the pizza, then VesselMover can't be used; VesselMover is only allowed for just the pizza (eg placing it on the VAB helipad or off the runway). Modded crafts are allowed but will be put on their own leaderboard Parts can be detached (such as bombs), the scoring will count for both the detached part and the craft that carries it to the target The craft can be unmanned Provide video evidence or a screenshots, including one of your craft and the cut-up pizza. Get the pizza here: https://kerbalx.com/Alienonawall/Pizza. Just load it and place it wherever you want. *note: the part count is relatively high (104 parts) Scoring: Leaderboard: Example entry: Badge: For completing the challenge (regardless of score,) here's the badge: (here's what it was from)
