For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
As @magnemoewrites its the ability to change altitude to find favorable winds. The difference between this and a 'weather balloon' is the combination of the ability to rapidly change altitude and loiter and the type of sensor array as well as the size of the package. It is evident just from the pictures that it's a spy balloon. It is also likely that the Chinese identified that the balloon was being observed and directed it to take some form of evasive action - this from some of the earliest reports. I will say this for the 'why didn't we shoot it down over Montana?' crowd: sometimes you want to observe a thing to learn about its capabilities and the user's interests. Also, bullets and parts falling from the sky onto a school or elder care center makes for bad press. -
They're forcing it on to tik spy to be down with the kids' jive and stay hep with the youth.

KSP2 Insiders - Preview event hosted by ESA

This sounds like they got to watch a demo more than anything; maybe - just maybe - a 'here, sit here and play this while we make sure you're not recording anything' so they can give firsthand impressions. They might all get a 'content creator' pack of materials from the dev team, meaning you can watch several different folks' interpretations of the same game content. I've seen this in other games where CCs were invited to 'play a demo level' or first stage of a game and then allowed to show that. -
Deep breath. Not quite a sigh - but I'm trying to accommodate you. You SHOULD NOT try to build a walkway if you cannot bend over to lay the stakes or measure. Hardscaping is hard work. There's a reason you see young men doing it. A proper build requires ditching out the area to be paved, prepping the ground with a good substrate and packing that down - which can take a while as you need to ensure both good drainage and that it will be free from frost heave and other movement - you don't want pavers to sink or rise or roll, otherwise you and or your guests can get seriously hurt. Falls - especially for older or frail people are common on badly laid walkways. I know people who (50s and up) have broken hips and ankles from falling... and a badly laid walkway is potentially more dangerous than just walking across the yard. Once you have a proper substrate, packed and flat, you need to do a sand or crushed stone layer to make sure its really ready for the pavers - then get those set and sanded or mortared into place. If you are just dropping several stepping stones or even the concrete pavers you buy at Home Depot... even those should be inset and sanded (at a minimum). I strongly recommend either hiring someone able to do the work properly or bringing over enough friends to (again) do the work properly.

As a former professional... I'd never do it this way. When hardscaping... I use stakes and string to mark the path dimensions. If you need a straight path... mark and stake the width you need at one end - then stretch a string along one side the distance you need making sure its perpendicular to the house or whatever if that's what you want. At the other end, stake and with the one string tight - use a square to mark the other end and stake it & string it.

KSP2 Hype Train Thread

Thanks for this. He NAILS a lot of the problems players like me get frustrated with as well as the issues that make people walk and not look back. He's playing released images, btw, with KSP content to illustrate old problems he hopes are fixed. (this is clearly NOT a 'new insider info' vid) Good, though! -
KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
They could easily have a casual game that plays off the IP of Kerbal that can be a scifi multiplayer game... But isn't at all KSP. KSP themed Minecraft or Diablo or Skyrim or Battlefield - too easy to take something that works as a MP game and slap Kerbal skins on it. That is something a different studio or just a part of Intercept could do to extend the IP and profits.- 1,629 replies

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread

The most info we have comes from the terrible interview of the KSP2 marketing exec. Nothing too direct, but both what he said and did not say indicates that you're absolutely correct. I get the impression that they have not yet resigned themselves to the most likely (limited player co-op) and are still plugging away at the problem - but the edges of the eventual solution may be coming into focus.- 1,629 replies

Pure speculation - but I think those of us who are predicting to start seeing CC stuff may be correct. Given that it's two weeks (Friday/Tomorrow) to EA, and the timing of the ESA announcement with CCs prominently displayed? Yeah. Content inbound. -

Clean. Looks great! -
Incoming heavily modded KSP and bespoke unity images, duck!

I've seen it a few times. Once, so bright it didn’t seem like a satellite (had the shuttle attached) - but other times dimmer. I'm certain it is the angle you view it in relation to the amount of darkness and its angle relative to the sun. In other words - the apparent brightness varies
-
I think that is all about the angle.

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread

They have been pretty consistent about MP being a feature they want for 1.0 and that it is no where near ready. Latest was nothing direct but it won't be out during the Sandbox part of EA. Most likely the very last thing to be complete before they declare the game 1.0.- 1,629 replies
