  1. I can't speak for the effect the increase in Mhz is going to have but I'd assume it certainly couldn't hurt. That said, KSP can't currently make use of 16Gb of ram but that's changing soon with the 1.5 patch. I'd wager you'll prolly see more of an improvement from the patch than you will from the newer RAM.
  2. The thing is that if your orbits are exactly matched you'll never catch up to him because accelerating will only take you higher, while slowing down will sink you lower. The way I like to think of it is: You gotta be wrong before you can be right. What you need to do is have your orbit either smaller or larger than his but the same shape, and intersecting at one point. (Picture two hula hoops standing upright on the ground where one is larger than the other.) Then when your ship has reached this common intersection point where the lines touch, you speed up/slow down in order to match the orbits. If the guy who made this illustrated guide got a dollar for every time it got posted on these forums, he'd be a rich man lol.
  3. I doubt it will let you flag those science tests as completed in your new game. You'll probably have to work on the honor system; just ignore the fact that you already did them, give yourself the science, and just don't repeat those experiments. Alternatively there may be a way to flag a test as completed in the Alt+F12 menu in the science/research section but I'm not 100% sure.
  4. I play KSP on a Radeon, works great! That's coming from a guy who always had Nvidia cards prior as well. I was leery at first, but the card is fantastic and I haven't had a single problem.
  5. I'm so jazzed for KSP 1.5/Unity 5 and you're harshin my mellow brah.
  6. Video of random guy building huge machines he claims weren't possible before unity 5 update and gushing over how much smoother it is.
  7. They are all community made creations running on the exact same machine. Not really getting whats so dishonest about that? Direct quote from the developer: "Unity 5 brings with it significant improvements to performance as well as some changes to the game’s physics which, on the whole, make for a more stable experience. Our testing has shown up to a 400% increase in performance on some machines!"
  8. Agreed. Game is still missing basic features you would assume any game that centers around building rockets and going to space would have. *Cough* life support *Cough* Right now KSP can definitely feel like a skeleton at times; that you have to drape your own meat/skin over in the form of mods.
  9. Well...this escalated quickly. Were kinda getting away from the OP's topic here guys and probably nudging dangerously close to a thread lock. Troll or not, I think we all have to agree to disagree. If he thinks he's entitled to a refund, he's free to pursue that through the appropriate channels and it's not really our place to make that judgement call. I seriously doubt anyone is going to change anyone else's mind here via text over the internet so this is just pointless arguing.
  10. I gotta admit, it'd be really nice to look at some different scenery while launching rockets, I could probably paint a picture of the KSC overlooking the ocean and the airport island in my sleep by now. I like your idea of each launch pad having an intended orbital destination as opposed to just sprinkling launch sites randomly all over Kerbin. Perhaps when playing career you would unlock them sequentially from easiest to hardest as you upgraded the KSC facilities. It may even need it's own "upgrade" menu where you pick and unlock stations by spending funds. I mean if 1.1 just magically had this I certainly wouldn't complain but I'm not confident that SQUAD would see it as a priority in the foreseeable future. I think that it may sadly remain in the realm of modding for quite some time.
  11. 10/10 troll bait. Would read again. Well done sir, I almost believed you were serious for a bit.
  12. I'm not saying there isn't any merit to launching from other places, but I was thinking more of the new player, who may be confused by his rocket making orbit from one pad, but not another. If multiple launch pads were implemented I think they should be late game unlocks to avoid further complicating the learning process for rookie players. Yeah, KSC 2 is a neat little easter egg, but It doesn't really do what the OP wants, since you can't launch from it stock.
  13. I'm sure this isn't the answer you're gonna want to hear but... It's probably way easier and less time consuming for everyone if you just start a new career game, give yourself as much starting funds/science/rep as you had in your original save, move all your saved ship designs over, and use the Hyperedit mod to put them all back where they belong. At the end of the day you'll essentially have your old save game back for all intents and purposes, plus your girlfriend won't have to dismember you.
  14. Try placing one upside down on a rover. It's COM will drop underneath the ground and it will be pretty much impossible to roll it over. Lot's of fun exploits with this effect, I hope they never take it out.
  15. I'm not against your idea but I have to question the practicality of it. Since it's completely impossible to launch and control 2 ships at once, what would one use multiple launch pads for? Also, the KSC is ideally situated to be an almost perfect launch site, launching from any where else on the planet would make getting to orbit significantly harder. I like the idea of having choices and some different scenery but I'm not sure the benefits would outweigh the effort it would take SQUAD to produce it.
  16. It beats the recommended specs for KSP but it's hard to say what's going to happen with 1.1 coming out soon, performance could go way up or way down. (Hopefully way up!) If I were you I'd hold off until the update happens and then ask this question again. Best of luck!
  17. I could see this being used for launch replays. Real life launch pads have cameras and video recorders all around them watching the craft take off. So once you get your rocket safely up in space you can switch back to the KSC and watch a replay of your take off from multiple view angles in the Mission Control Room. You could even use a lot of the info from the tracking station to do some display monitors in the background, maybe randomly switching to different crafts you have in orbit...just to look cool.
  18. Since 0.03 is the lowest setting allowed by the game, can you shed some light on why? Also, would you see any further differences by manually editing the .cfg file down to 0.01? What could happen at really extreme values? Like 0.0000000000001? Or 100.0? Wold the game just ignore them and default to something reasonable?
  19. Check out this video, on average it shows almost a tenfold (x10) increase in FPS. If we even see half the performance improvement from switching to Unity 5 that Besiege did I'll be thrilled.
  20. Heat can be a huge problem for laptops especially if there is no clearance underneath it for air to flow. When the GPU or CPU is too hot it can't do it's job effectively and you will often see stuttering or loss of frame rate. I would recommend a cooling pad you can get them for around 10 dollars, and they will do wonders for your overheated lap and your overheated laptop. I had a laptop with similar specs to yours (was Windows, not Mac) and the cooling pad was often the difference between being able to play a game for a few minutes as opposed to a few hours.
  21. Searched the forums and google, wasn't able to find any such mod sadly. What those people you saw are more than likely doing is editing the flag file to add the name, the same way you would to make any custom flag. This is definitely a feature that should be in the game! I wonder how difficult this would be to implement in a mod? Apparently at one point in KSP's development a "decal system" was planned but scrapped, hopefully it'll make it's way back in at some point.
  22. I'd say you are better off using the honor system and just choosing not to reload/revert/quicksave rather than actually locking yourself out of being able to. Maybe I'm biased from personal experience, since my first and only attempt at an "Ironman" career ended a few hours in when Jeb bugged out and fell through the ground on an EVA near the KSC and promptly died. In my opinion, If you haven't done anything wrong and the game crashes or glitches out, I don't see any harm in undoing what is clearly not your fault.
  23. Same, I only use it if the ship requires some special means of operation or has a glaring flaw I might forget about by the next time I load it up.
  24. You'll be fine right up until the game crashes/glitches/bugs out just as you are about to finish a couple hour long mission. Then I expect you'll need to purchase a new keyboard, a sturdy one at that. In my opinion KSP quicksaving is more of a quality of life thing as opposed to a difficulty thing. I don't feel the game gets any harder without quicksaves, it just becomes more time consuming. Just my two cents, best of luck!
