In 2010 the crew of the Leonov discuss HAL's actions, one of them being HAL's maker Dr Chandra, it's a good read and Clarke uses their discussions to answer in part why HAL acted the way he did.
-
Actually lajoswinkler, HAL was capable of completing the mission unaided, and had knowledge of the true purpose of the mission while Pool and Bowman were ignorant of it. Part of HAL's problem was that keeping the secret from Bowman and Pool triggered a sort of psychosis, as part of his programming was to be truthful, he was essentially told to lie.

It's something I'm testing to see if it helps reduce forum load, how are you actually triggering the message though? I can't get the message by doing what you describe. It should only be affecting the search function.

Rule o the seas, Two and two fifths, the rightness of place, of scribing and of right verse. All correspondence, orders and writs must be understandable, and not in some strange foreign tongue to bamboozle and confuse. Ye must put these in the place for it, and not any haphazard way that suits ye lest you again bamboozle and confuse. It be hard enough for those of little schooling to understand even normal Queens English, so don't go mixing up them letters, no pig-Latin or you'll be facing a beatin!

Hi Iskander and welcome to the KSP forums That is a good plane, definitely Spacecraft Exchange material, and good luck on the VTOLSSTO
-
Welcome to the community Vicks Good luck reaching the Mun, have fun and fly safe

Though I don't know how to calculate this it is possible to judge by eye. Enable the center of mass indicator and see where the CoM of your lander (and just the lander) is in relation to your landing legs, you will want to keep that CoM inside the footprint of your craft. Rotating your lander before you touch down so one leg is pointing down the slope will help a great deal, as with most 4 or 3 leg designs there's less support between the lander legs, the footprint is narrower at those points. Keeping your CoM low will make things easier, don't forget to take fuel mass into account, it can greatly affect your CoM, also having your landing legs further out greatly increases your landers footprint. Ninja'd!

Camacha, you can disagree all you like of course, it's a mark of the community here that such posts are visible and are not hidden away, like so many members incorrectly assume (some kind of knee-jerk defence mechanism from other forums maybe?) I will ask you however to bring your grievances to us (the Moderators) via PM, so we can properly address your concerns I'll just add a note on our policy, it seems to work pretty well for the vast majority of the KSP forums, not bad going to be honest.
-
Closing a thread does not remove it from view, also Camacha, when we remove offending necro posts and reprimand the poster, regular members such as yourself do not see it, this does not mean that it does not occur.

Going back to the original topic.... Minmus is the sum total of Kerbins entire mint ice cream output, all the ice cream was shot into space by the Kerbal ice cream mafia to artificially inflate ice cream prices. No longer can you get a minty 99 with a flake or a cheap mint choc-ice, no!, if you want that delicious minty treat you'll have to pay! All that ice cream had to go somewhere, and it's nice and cold in space right? so guess were it ended up, there's a reason why Kerbals on Minmus aren't allowed to open their helmets...

Actually It'll be fine here, it's not a mission report or "live from mission control" kind of thing, in fact it's really good and I'm looking forwards to seeing the end result

These are great Xacktar, and I hope more people see them, so I've stuck the thread for June

What was ksp like when it first came out
sal_vager replied to awsomejwags's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I miss the simplicity of the old versions, thanks for bringing back memories guys, awsomejwags, you've been stickied -
I like this, a lot and I think others will to, so I've stick the thread for June, good job Maximus97
-
Sorry Old Man Jenkins, adf.ly is not something we want here, especially on a craft file, you are trying to monetize a txt file generated by a proprietary program (KSP)

Another month, and another batch of notable threads for you to check out, this time we'll start by looking to KSP's past __________ awsomejwags asks "What was ksp like when it first came out?", do you remember the old days? If you do then drop in and share your experiences. __________ Never played KSP when it was young? Well now is your chance in supers challenge, to put the VERY first kerbals on the mun! , try version 0.12 and see the Mun for the first time all over again. __________ An old thread, but a good one, xorg tried to get all the old versions together in one place, so check it out if you'd like to see what things were like for yourself when KSP was really new. We're still looking for a few versions, so all you older astronauts, check your hard drives, maybe you can help complete the collection? __________ And now for something completely different!, everyone likes a good laugh and Xacktar does not disappoint with his excellent series "All Kerb'd Up!", If you like Danny2462's videos you'll love this __________ Lastly for June the KSP forum plays KSP!, thanks go to Maximus97 for starting this thread, pop in and help guide the Kerbals through their space career __________ That's all for June, have fun and fly safe!

The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
So the game works but it's an addon issue? It's best if you find out which one is doing this and then we can try to figure out why, you can contact the addon maker or you'll have to go without, we can't fix other peoples stuff, sorry. If you are using a non English language on your PC then try the LC_ALL=C command. -
Now-defunct-thread-that-should-not-appear-in-google-search.
sal_vager replied to Cilph's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hi Lanceo90, unfortunately you will need the permission of the makers of those parts to redistribute them, this is part of the license from the first post: -
Nah, you'll surprise yourself The orbital manoeuvres aren't really any more difficult then going to Minmus, it just takes longer and you'll need more fuel, fuel lines will help though.
-
You can get to Duna and back with those nodes open, there's some great views there for your Kerbal holiday snaps

The Linux compatibility thread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Reign Of Magic, I suggest you just try the Nvidia driver in the repository for now, "sudo apt-get install nvidia-current" in the terminal should do the trick Don't forget to reboot! -

Part catalogue breaks for me, the simple part organiser works though. Have you tried the proprietary AMD driver? I always had trouble with the open source one on AMD, also I see real solar system and other addons, make sure the game works when stock. Another thing to try would be the 64bit binary in the KSP folder. -
Ahh yeah, we seem not to have that, if it's supported by VB5 maybe we can get it after the upgrade
