[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.18 Discussion thread
sal_vager replied to kacperrutka26's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You are paying for access to the game in its current state and the future updates are free, KSP will get more expensive as time goes on, bought it early? Good, Don't want to pay $18? Well there are other things you can spend your money on, you don't need KSP like you need food for example. KSP is currently an alpha release, not a completed game, you should expect it to have bugs and missing features. Now back on topic: I think 0.18 will be mostly polish and fixes rather than a lot of new features, maybe we'll get voices and music -
I kmow that heat will be passed into other parts, like the fuel tank feeding an engine, you can reduce heat buildup by adding other parts such as struts to the fuel tank or even better, to the engines themselves (if surface attach is active) You can keep solid boosters from overheating this way

Spaceplane spins uncontrollably
sal_vager replied to thevegimobil's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Okay two things, first, the limited coding of the wings means that if they are on sideways they do not work at all, your rearmost wings are adding weight with no lift whatsoever. Secondly, for stability you'll want your CG in front of your center of lift, you'll have to guess where the CG will move to after you have used up most or all of your fuel. With the CG and CL in the same place you'll have a nice, highly maneuverable craft, twitchy is the word, with the CG in the back like you have you'll have a hell of a time keeping her straight. -
Well I'm just glad it's fixed thevegimobil

The last tanks placed should drain first, as KSP assumes that you are building from the top down, and the first tank you place is often on the lander or return stage. The RCS fuel logic can get messed up at times.

On-screen protractor
sal_vager replied to glasstabels2's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Here is a really good calculator for angles, you can do the rest by eye fairly well -
They are supposed to drain in order from bottom to top, though this sometimes breaks when the upper RCS tanks are added late in the build. Try removing all the RCS tanks, dropping them back in the parts lists, then fitting new tanks starting at the top and working your way down, this should make the code search through the tanks correctly

[PLUGIN, PARTS][0.17] EPS - Electric Power Standards 0.3 (12.09.27)

Official comment Moved thread at the creators request. Keep up the good work l00 -
KSP 's recommended minimum is 2gigs of RAM, so I'd bump that up to a minimum of 1600mb. But if you want my actual recommendation, it would be to upgrade your RAM or use a better computer, I am assuming it is not very powerful, has limited graphics support and an old processor, I'd have to see your dxdiag output to be sure though. Ideally you'd have 2 gigabytes of RAM, which is considered low these days and most entry level PC's have more as standard, you'd also have an Nvidia or an ATI graphics card, it doesn't even have to be top of the range. Just about any entry level PC you can buy these days will also have a multi core processor, KSP doesnt need it but it makes it easier to run several programs at once, and you'd be hard pressed to find a new PC that didn't have a 64bit operating system installed, basically you won't find a new PC with 448mb of RAM, the technology has moved on. I hate to say it but your PC might just be too old. Try the swap/page file thing though, it's worth a go at least.

Hi B787_300, welcome to the community MechJeb currently cannot land on the new planets, unless you like making new craters that is, I suggest you look up the tutorials in the How-To board.
-
Well, that is not a lot, like you said XP has told you it didn't have enough RAM, and it wasn't lying. You can try making a swap file (also called a page file on XP) by following these instructions, it'll be slow, and I can't guarantee it'll get KSP working at all, but it's worth a shot. Also, shut down all non essential programs, even the antivirus, just don't go downloading anything with it off. And don't run KSP from the Desktop, use C:\Games it'll help a little.
-
On XP you can rightclick the My Computer icon and select properties, one of the tabs in the resulting box will show your RAM. Alternatively you can click Start, click Run and type in dxdiag, then press enter, this will give you the nifty Windows system diagnostic utility.

How much do you have sneezedr424, and do you have a swap file?

A rather odd question.
sal_vager replied to FRFlatland's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hi FRFlatland, though I do not know where they are, I do know that they are not designed to be modified, and that they are the copyright of Squad so reusing their resources would be subject to Squads written approval -

Hi Daman453, welcome to the community Look here for help on getting to orbit, plus you can do a spacewalk by clicking on EVA on a Kerpals portrait. Cooling engines? Just throttle back a little and they will cool down
-
Hi blackwing, welcome to the community You can find a lot of info on flying in this thread here. As MechJeb is trying to do, you have to get into orbit before you can get anywhere else, trying to fly straight at the Mun just wont work, in space it's all about orbits
-
Hi Moeceefus, welcome to the community Glad you are having fun, also, manual flight is a decent skill to have, MechJeb does not always get things right
-
Good to know Veeltch, thanks for the heads up, I guess Mono/.NET is only needed for the Patcher and for making your own plugins. I have always installed Mono just in case, never really tested KSP without it.
-
Don't forget to ask Tosh if you can use the wheels TouhouTorpedo, that's if you have not asked already Oh and I think what KAPbl4 means is something like tank treads.
-
You can find the add-ons here red37red, and the plugin powered add-ons are there at the top as a sub page All the add-ons should work fine, even the plugin powered releases, as the plugin system relies on C# C# code is handled by .NET on Windows, and by Mono on Mac, so as long as you have Mono installed you should not have any problems

First Post and First (Non-Tragic) Mun Landing
sal_vager replied to KeiranH's topic in Welcome Aboard
Hi KeiranH, welcome to the community Congrats on your Munar landings, it's tricky to land on your engine like that, very easy to break it off.
