Hi xRAVENx, welcome to the community Happy birthday! For satellites, check these out, Dynasat and Powertech, and for something for your sats to do, ISA mapping, and craft remote control

I use it for that reason as well G Addict, it just suits the large tanks better and I'm not worried so much be performance.

Well, the ocean is known to cause lag, you can halve the PQS value for kerbin's ocean in the settings.cfg, that might help. Apart from that you can try setting the core affinity to 1 in the task manager, that might help as well.

Well there is this Zapp, it's a few years old but it gives you an idea of the limitations, seems .net functions can be multithreaded but not the Unity core functions for some reason. PhysX would be nice, for Nvidia users, ATI owners would be out of luck though and does PhysX run on all Nvidia cards? Plus it'd be Windows only so no OSX support. KSP really needs a loading screen when going to the launchpad, it's possible to launch before the game has finished loading all the resources, take a look and you can sometimes see terrain still updating while you are sitting there on the pad. You can reduce warp to normal time by clicking the left arrow on the MET display, it'll drop down the time warp controls when you mouse over it, but doing that can result in a bug that knocks your engines off. And yeah KSP is definitely worth it, we can make our own stories as we go along if we want to

This looks cool, I have a question though, why is the pilot seat in the rear? I know that in really old planes (WW1 stuff) the pilot would sit in the back as the control cables couldn't easily be routed around the cockpit, so the guy in front was the navigator, though I think he got to drop bombs over the side as well. Once better flight controls were possible, like with electrical signals and stuff, the cable touting was no longer an issue and the pilot was moved to the front so he could see better, a useful thing when you are steering

The Computer science and operating systems Megathread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in Science & Spaceflight
These days I use my Xubuntu laptop to aid my astronomy, using the Stellarium planetarium program which is available on the three major platforms so most people can try it out. It helps me find what direction to start looking in, and I can match what I see through binoculars or with my naked eyes to what I see on the screen, making it easy to find out what I'm actually looking at -
Borish Borklund? Now there's a word I have not seen for a long time, lets keep this thread free of olde worlde insults shall we?

My explosions aren't as detailed as everyone elses?
sal_vager replied to strutman12345's topic in Welcome Aboard
Hi strutman12345, welcome to the community Not sure about the explosions, though they were changed a while back to help reduce frame rate problems, it might help if you could post a screenshot of your explosions so we can compare them. -
Actually zapy97, they are not

Banned for encouraging a member to break the forum rules, specifically Section 8: Miscellaneous Issues: A user shall not: 'Power Post' to gain post count. Doing so will not only net the user's posting status revoked, but will see the users post count reset to zero. Edit: Just kidding

The Computer science and operating systems Megathread!
sal_vager replied to sal_vager's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Sounds very interesting Mars90000000, and yes, that would be "doing science" Thanks for sharing that. -
Welcome computer scientists This thread is for discussion of the many uses of Linux, BSD, Windows, OSX and any other OS in the pursuit of scientific discovery, of software available on these platforms for conducting science at home, of experiments with hardware and software to do interesting and new things, and general chat about how these OS's are for us and our experiences with them. So tell us what you use and why, how you got started and what things you do with your OS that sets you apart from the mainstream computer users. Ultimately the software we use and what we do with it is more important than the platform we are on, that's why this thread is open to all, if it's a computer and you can do science on it, you can talk about it here

Hi Mars90000000, welcome to the welcome aboard board Now go launch some rockets!

Just saw this game as a you tube recomendation
sal_vager replied to redcoat22's topic in Welcome Aboard
Hi redcoat22, welcome to the community The guys at Squad played Buzz Aldrin's race into space as well, they might base the KSP campaign loosely on that game, I know a lot of people have fond memories of it -
Hi Kulzar, welcome to the community I think using the demo as a teaching tool is a great idea, I remember first playing KSP, and realizing how objects in space really move compared to what we know here on Earth or learn from TV, it was an eye opening moment.

Well lets see if I can help here.... (1) It's best to have the center of gravity (CG) in front of the center of lift (CL) for stability, watch out for the CG moving rearwards as fuel is used though. (2) Planes will get faster in the upper atmosphere as there is less air resistance, but the aircraft engines will choke without enough oxygen, you need to switch you rocket engines. (3) See One Your CG is now too far rearward as the front tanks are empty, you can disable a front tank to keep some weight at the front of the craft. You can use other parts to add weight to a craft, it's better to adjust the lifting surfaces though as that does not add extra weight, also you can upload craft using mediafire or pastebin, imgur is best for the pics. Hope this helps

Can't get my camera to follow me...
sal_vager replied to imonthefeckinwheel's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hi imonthefeckinwhee, unless I'm mistaken there is no proper chase camera yet, some people have had mixed success with editing the settings.cfg to make the camera stay behind the craft though. You could mount one of r4m0n's cameras on the tail and use that, not perfect I know but it works okay. -
Stupid question ...
sal_vager replied to wired2thenet's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Ahh I think I know what you mean, try holding down the middle mouse button and moving it, if there is another way to do this I haven't seen it yet. -

Hi The Destroyer, welcome to the community Strong feeling of Déjàvu here, I could have sworn you had done one of these and that I answered

Welcome RadiationKing, cool name

I hope that docking will have the option of doing it totally by hand, maybe with a targeting reticle with distance markings etched into the glass but nothing more fancy than that. I like the challenge of orbital rendezvous but I know not everyone likes that, so as long as the computer (if there is one) can be turned off I'll be happy

Hopefully not torx, I took a Dell apart a while back and my Novatech laptop as well, both used philips screws, you will need a set of jewelers screwdrivers though.
