  1. In one his runs, @ManEatingApe used a goo canister to give something to "sit on", and prevent Bob to slip out of the ladder as he went for a sub-orbital. By going slow enough, this should be doable. Proto-roving is safe, provided you don't go faster than 10 m/s. I think you can at least squeeze 20 science out of the KSC, which isn't bad at all when everything gives barely anything at all.
  2. Definitely possible. I got very economical during the early game, as you'll soon see. My first rocket cost me a grand total of 7 kerbucks! By grinding splashed/landed contracts, you can make effectively infinite money, even if it's scandalously slow. As you can wait a few days instead of declining contracts, it's also possible to slowly build a non-zero reputation, which will eventually make the contracts get better. As of the 90 science you need to get serious (45+20+15+5+5), it should be doable with a combination of KSP roving using 2 pods, and if you're really not scared, take an expendable kerbal (*smirks evilly at Bill*) and do the EVA reports in low orbit, as there's quite a few you can get with an almost circular orbit. For NCD, however, I have not a single clue. Maybe an early mun fly-by? That's almost suicidal, but why not.
  3. Corundum is done!!! Five words: Holy **** that was hard! Not only I had to restart twice, I had to constantly find ways to cut corners to cope with a very limited amount of cash, and the last rocket I used for the 500 last points of science is a 4-stage to-mun-and-back probe that took me over 2 hours of trial and error to design. I'm very proud of it tho. I'll post the whole journey as soon as I can, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, in the mission reports. Meanwhile, here's a teaser! My second fail (Val lives, but I'm broke...) The finished tech tree The very not-finished KSC Looks like I'm finally done with this challenge! int(KSP-caveman_Diamond.exe) ... what was that? I said I'm done... print("I don't need you, I'm your computer, anyway, I am good at calculations")
  4. It's kind of a "reverse caveman". It looks fun! I may try, one day or another. I'd see difficulty levels, too.
  5. I'm getting a "Learn to fly" vibe, does anyone else know this game?
  6. I'd say it's a different problem. When you get the flea, it's literally your only choice. The T30 is quite terrible but it still has uses, even in mid-game, if it's coupled with a pair of thuds. (Also, it's unlocked after the T45, now). When you unlock the Stayputnik, it is so outclassed by manned flights (especially since, at this point, you don't have any solar panel) that there's practically no reason to use it at all, ever, as a probe core.
  7. Except the whole scene is in low orbit, and there's no real reason for it to be also a stationary one.
  8. Lucy: "We only use 10% of our brain, and at 100% we become god or something like that." Me: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" Also, I let a garbled screech in Rogue One, during the final battle, as they are in orbit but they aren't moving compared to the planet under them. AUGH.
  9. My brain glitched at " the manure was pre planned ", but anyway, wouldn't it be simpler to implement a "Every X minutes, randomly, a part fails"?
  10. More generally, how about more "special features" for the various buildings alt lv3? Astronauts quarters lv3: Kerbals can now unlock special perks at level 4 and 5: -Level 4 pilots can now hold horizon; level 5 can use soft controls on their own, and automatically stop boosting once nodes are over. -Level 4 engineers can rebuild panels; level 5 can rebuild radiators -Level 4 scientists can reset mystery goo pods without leaving the capsule, just like labs; level 5 can do the same with material bays. Administration lv3: Kerbals are now 20% less expensive, possibly unlock a series of "storyline" contracts along with Mission Control lv3 VAB/SPH lv3: a simple dV calculator
  11. Good point, but that's not really an intended use. A spherical structural part could be a good idea, by the way.
  12. My point is actually: if it's supposed to be so bad, it's useless, then why does it exist at all?
  13. Is there any requirement for the advanced difficulty options? because I did the first few launches of a 3rd try without kerbal G-limit (I basically took Hard Advanced settings) Also, it wouldn't change much, the one mission Jeb would have fainted wouldn't have been changed anyway, because at this point the vessel was out of fuel and free-coasting. By the way, this try is getting much smoother, as I created thanks to another save a serie of cheap, reliable rockets capable of achieving milestones with minimal science. Edit: I'm doing it boys! I'm halfways done, I lost Jeb tho... But I just developed my ultimate weapon: a 4-stage full tour lander, capable on going on Mun and Minmus, that pushes the caveman tech to its extreme.
  14. I'm starting to think the rocket will be launched posthumously in 2131... But nice HSP caveman run.
  15. Well guess what? I did another run. It's only made more infuriating by the fact that I died due to a contract that was made to give me the 45th science needed for advanced rocketry. Jeb RUDed on a suborbital orbit due to an oversight of a problem I didn't have the first time, and now I'm out of cash (I was planning on making it reusable at least partially to save cash) EDIT: I'm doing another run, this time it will be more scientifical: I'm getting a spreadsheet to make a repository of working low tech designs for future cavemen.
  16. It's only by playing 30% science caveman that one understands how hard it is to rack up the 90 science. In all seriousness, yes, the stayputnik is horrenduously bad. It should at least have an SAS to compense the fact it is much bigger and much harder to put on a rocket than all others.
  17. And how about this: RTGs have a half-life of 15 years or so (two is REALLY not much, it's barely enough for a Duna round trip) but by processing some ore, you can resplenish them (not very realistic, but it works gameplay-wise)
  18. Okay, sorry for double post, but I must ask: what are your tips for Corundum? More immediately, here's my successful (but very French) hard attempt! As I did better than with KER (that ended with Jeb and Val dead), I think I have fully expurged my technological sin. https://imgur.com/a/fN7nm https://imgur.com/a/ZogvJ Edit again: you know what? EDIT: my screen should now read: "GENE'S ADVICE:" Git gud
  19. YES PLOX. I would also like to be able to take contracts from non-Mission control, or at least a "quick MC" button.
  20. This IS full stock this time, I was just wondering. Because my rockets surely wobble a lot! Oh, and vanadium, too, for glory of Great Russia: https://imgur.com/a/pCV43
  21. Would definitely save a few clicks, especially after high dV low tech missions, that tend to leave debris everywhere.
  22. When you see the launch of the Falcon-Heavy live and understand absolutely everything at what's going on.
  23. Alright! Round two, and this time no cheating because I did it full vanilla, without even a graphical mod (also, the first try had KJR. Not sure if it's cheating, but no risk taken (I don't want to restart 2x (grr (there are way too many parentheses)))). I'll do as many as I can, in an ascending difficulty order. Let's start with the easiest: https://imgur.com/a/I6b2e Major edit: Apatite is done too! https://imgur.com/a/9W3ad My evil plan is advancing...
  24. I read: 15 bucks I understand: -999 999 999 bucks One quarter of the price of SWBII, and so many times the quality.
  25. Take your time! I'm not in a hurry you know
