  1. A science container can land on a single radial drogue chute. I use this sometimes.
  2. @jonny Wow, great mission! Short update: I used the Moho Landing to unlock R&D Lv.3 and sent a little miner to rescue my Kerbals on Moho. It took 3 launches (1 for the Miner and an empty tug, one to fuel the tug, and one to attach an extra drop Tank). The Miner is currently on an intercept with Moho, looking good. It's essentially a Lander with mining equipment and the ability to deliver 800 units of Liquid Fuel to Low Moho Orbit. The Tug doubles as a fuel depot and relay. Before the Miner arrives at Moho, I have an Eve-Window coming up. I accepted some contracts for Eve wich will pay off over 3,000,000 Kerbucks and are a good opportunity to test my reentry design.
  3. If you're searching for life you should go to Laythe. The oxygen atmosphere is good evidence for life!
  4. @Jetski Using drag for aerodynamic stability isn't always the best way to go. Remember aitrcraft design. Stalling your wings usually results in loosing stability, and you're stalling those wings pretty hard.
  5. Sounds doable, will try. 1 burn to get a close approach with duna 1 mid course correction would it be an exploit to use staging for coasting phases?
  6. A friend of mine bought KSP and we played together, I thought him how to orbit, land on the Mun, etc.. He built his first plane and ... It flew better than everything I ever made.
  7. Ways to get an equatorial Mun orbit: 1. Launch into a perfect orbit that has 0 relative inclination to the Mun (btw, in the case of the Mun, that is the same as 0 absolute inclination). This is possible to do, just target the Mun before lifting off and watch your inclination markers during Ascent. 2. Correct your inclination in LKO. It's ok to do for very small inclination changes like 1 or 2 degrees, but it can be quite delta-v expensive for big changes in inclination. 3. Do a mid-course correction. Changes in inclination are less expensive when you're further out. 4. Correct your orbit after you did your Mun insertion.
  8. The best thing is to wait until your main chutes are fully deployed before decoupling the heat shield. try using regular struts, they're much more rigid than autostruts.
  9. Wow. Why haven't I installed this earlier? I new this mod existed, but I kept estimating those things and doing rough calculations in my head. Now, I finally have a mod for this.
  10. Jeb, Val and Bill are stranded on Moho! So, I've been busy and screwed up my Moho Mission completely. I could just load a Quicksave but doing the rescue might be more fun. First things first: IKE Landing Next: Screwed up Apollo-style orbital Assembly 3 Kerbal Moho return mission So ... I guess I'll use the Moho Landing to upgrade R&D to Level 3 and sent a little mining rig to save the Kerbals. I wanted to use that upgrade for the Astronaut Complex so they can go EVA on Moho ... tanning. Maybe Bob can do the Duna return in the meantime. So far: - Kerbin SOI done - Duna- , Ike- , Eve- , Gilly- landing done. Next up: -Moho landing (already done, but I figured it makes more sense to add that to the next post) -Moho return -Duna return -Eve return
  11. By the time I made the post, I had only landed on Gilly. Just did Ike, I'll post pictures tomorrow. I upgraded Mission Control and the VAB. I decided to finish Duna SOI and do a trip to Moho before doing the Eve return.
  12. I speak -German -English -French (just a little) and I'm well capable of understanding Luxembourgish. Languages I'd really like to learn are Swedish and Spanish.
  13. 10/10 literally every 2nd post i see is from you.
  14. Meanwhile. A multi-purpose probe heads to duna! It has Scansat equipment on board to scan Duna and Ike and It's going to land on Ike. After that, It continues being a relay. The exact same craft will do the exact same thing for Eve and Gilly. The meantime was enough for the minmus Lab to do a few suborbital hops and generate enough science to unlock everything unlockable with R&D Lv. 2.
  15. Tere's a huge difference between Eves sea level and eves highest mountains. You have good chances on the mountains.
  16. Had a similar accident with my gilly mission. also, I'm going for a Moho landing too. I don't want to do my Eve return without maneuver nodes.
  17. I know for a fact that at least the Hammer is not able to lift its own weight on Eves surface Level. they do barely if you set the minimum amount of Solid fuel (I actually use them as a separator for the parachutes). Using them higher up will work, of course, but is isn't worth it. a solid stage needs much more mass for the same amount of delta-v, so taking them all the way up as upper stages increases your overall mass significantly. the only reasonable situation to use SRBs is on the very first stage to get off Kerbin.
  18. 3 Engines for Eve Surface? -Vector -Mammoth -Aerospike The next best would be the Mainsail, but it's ISP is significantly lower than that of the above. I don't know about the twin boar, might be worth a try. I only use the Vector and Aerospikes for my designs (at least one Vector in the center to provide gimbal is very useful), as I can build nice and sleek asparagus Vehicles with only 1.25 m parts. Forget about every other Engine, especially SRBs. Edit: Check this out if you like. It's an especially easy to use Eve Ascent Vehicle https://kerbalx.com/Physics_Student/EAV4
  19. Soo ... My playthrough is going to take a bit as I'm starting to do casual gameplay instead of focusing on the challenge. I have a Lab on its way to Minmus and finally managed to get a fuel-delivery to Jeb. Jeb being Jeb decides to do one or two suborbital hops with his filled up Lander. That's exactly what caused his emergency in the first place! I did more than this, I just wanted to show this rescue as a highlight.
  20. That's exactly what I wanted to say (maybe not if I missunderstood the English language here (happens less and less frequently)) what I wanted to say is that in the beginning of every playthrough, I care a lot about debris but I keep making mistakes. At some point, I stop caring. I think that's called being inconsistent.
  21. Not at all, you can go for orbital assembly if you like. Looking forward to your entry.
  22. I'm sure having seen Scott Manley doing such a thing in a live stream. I'm searching for the video but can't find it. Sounds like a great challenge! Go ahead and start one before I do so! What reentry vessel are you using? It's not only atmospheric shock heating that kills you, parts can also be destroyed by heat transmission from the heatshield. Make sure the part directly attached to the heatshield has a high heat tolerance itself. Edit: Also, don't use the inflatable heat shield. It hasn't got ablator on it wich makes it explode at more than 5 km/s.
