Can you help me name a new family of rockets?
RealKerbal3x replied to Chequers's topic in KSP1 Discussion
@Chequers Maybe name it after a bird, those names tend to work well. Failing that, just give it a cool-sounding alphanumeric designation, like SHLV-2 or something. -
What if you're on the train, or other public space, and you want to play some KSP on your phone to pass the time? You obviously don't have enough space to plug a keyboard into your phone, and people are going to look at you funny if you say something like 'Decrease throttle to 50%' out loud. At that point, why not just wait until you get home to play KSP on your considerably more powerful PC? The entire point of a mobile version of KSP (IMO) would be the ability to play on the go
-
Aside from processing power, another issue is controls - how exactly are you going to fit all of KSP's controls onto a mobile phone screen? @Spaceman50 I'd recommend you check out Spaceflight Simulator or Simple Rockets. They're similar to KSP but are designed and optimised to work on mobile devices.

I've never seen anyone on here complain about the default font size. Unless you have serious visual impediments (in which case you probably have glasses or contact lenses anyway), the normal, un-bolded font is perfectly legible. I think large bold font is way overkill and only serves to take up an unnecessary amount of screen space, so maybe you should tone it down a little

NASASpaceflight recently released a 5-page, 8000-word article about Starship's conception, design and construction. I'd highly recommend you give it a read: https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2020/10/the-continued-evolution-of-the-big-falcon-rocket/ -
Balsa Flight Simulator isn't made by SQUAD, but it is made by Felipe Falanghe - the original creator of KSP - who left SQUAD several years ago. Basically wings which you can edit the size and shape of. There are a few mods for KSP which add them, often alongside other procedural parts. Procedural parts in general are quite divisive in the KSP community as there are some who think being able to mould parts to your liking is better than the current system, and others who prefer the current LEGO-style system of craft building.

Stock, functional Starship replica
RealKerbal3x replied to RoninFrog's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I thought about doing that, but I was worried that it'd then have a rather low TWR when on the vacuum engines. Rhinos are pretty powerful... -
Stock, functional Starship replica
RealKerbal3x replied to RoninFrog's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Oh, cool. I never got around to actually downloading it, but I saw the instructions on the KerbalX page to land it like a spaceplane Why did you add that ability in if it can already do the bellyflop maneuver? Edit: I tried it out. Some things were weird as I use the stock textures (I don't use Restock as I don't like the philosophy of that mod), but overall it looks good. I did have to remove the Rhinos though as they don't currently have a bare variant in stock, causing the boat-tail to poke through the sides of the fairings. Overall though, nice craft! -
Stock, functional Starship replica
RealKerbal3x replied to RoninFrog's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
@RoninFrog This is awesome, great work (oh and FYI, Starship isn't a spaceplane and it doesn't land like one. It lands more like this: https://youtu.be/DdTYMry7fq0) -
KSP 1.11 update

Already done in 1.8: Full post: -
I think it was

Wow, nice! Any chance you could put the craft file up on KerbalX? I'd love to try it out! Having an integrated graphics chip myself, I just turn V-sync off entirely. For me, the slight visual improvement isn't worth the loss in framerate.

At the moment it's meant to release in autumn next year.

Interesting, that was the problem they scrubbed the launch for before! -

A Raptor seemed to be installed on SN8 at around 12:46am. I'm not sure whether it was SN39 or SN36. We'll probably get better video soon, but for now you can zoom back on this feed and see if you can see it. Edit: I found a fairly good screenshot on Reddit: -
Scott Manley made a nice video on the process of OSIRIS-REx getting those sweet science points! Maybe they'll be able to research a new type of ladder when it returns to Earth in 2023.
-
Yeah, I probably should. I forgot about that

Indeed, they are nice. I've also noticed that in the Gameplay and Technical Support forums there's a little 'solved count' icon next to your reputation that shows how many of your answers have solved someone's problem, which is kind of cool.

Issues with Eve Rover
RealKerbal3x replied to Vezbot's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
@Stratzenblitz75's big thing is doing amazing things using only stock parts and physics - go look through the rest of his YouTube channel, you'll see more of the same. He says he used stock KSP (apart from visual mods) without even using DLC in the video description, and why would he lie? The smoothness of the framerate is also probably due to how most of the video is sped up. -

The Starship payload user's guide does mention that Starship payloads are intended to be integrated into the payload section while it is separate from the rest of the vehicle, with the payload section later being installed on the launch pad. Having a payload section/fairing that can be easily and quickly be installed/removed would certainly seem to work with this plan. -

Full view of SN8's stacking as well as some Raptor juggling: Seems like they pulled SN39 out, were ready to put SN36 in to replace it but then put both of them on a truck and carried them back to the shipyard.
