RealFire [Pre-Development] [Just an Idea at this point]
randomness5555 replied to hieywiey's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Yeah great. While I do like the idea (dont get me wrong, I love fire >) it's probably going to be either difficult to create and/or VERY laggy. But hey, you get this working and i'll give it a go -
Ok, thanks guys. Basically the idea is-Reach about 15000 meters, gradually level out while building up speed and then manouver as normal in space on whichever engines are chosen to run on in space. Also have lots of lift, and have it behing the COM. No time to test this tonight, but thanks for the tips, I'll probably post some pics tommorow to show how the efforts panned out.

Put simply, I have been having spaceplane troubles. Building them-fine, I can build some pretty good jets. My problem comes with orbital spaceplanes-ssto or msto, either way, my problem is in flying them into orbit. How do you do that? If I have a fully rapier powered jet I tend to run out of fuel before orbit, and also, what type of flight path do I take? Just point up at about 45% and burn for a while? I know people have probably asked this before, but I could do with some help. Also, what do you do for re-entry? Testing using hyper-edit to get one of the jets into orbit ended in a horrible series of flips followed by even worse explosions. So to sumerise-building one that could reach orbit, no problem. Getting them there and back-help me please. (Oh geez-I posted this in the wrong place! Moderaters, could you move this to gameplay questions please? Thanks!)

What is the best way to end fossil fuel dependance?

The earthquake thing was never proven to be linked...Ok it probably was, but it was never proven. -
What is the best way to end fossil fuel dependance?
randomness5555 replied to makinyashikino's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Isn't yellowstone due to blow itself and most of the surrounding area into oblivion some time in the next 20-200 years? As for a fossil fuel alternative, FUSION AND HYDROGEN FUEL. Seriously, you can make fuel from water. Fuel that when used, changes back INTO MORE OF THE SAME FUEL. Fuel that makes up about 70% (ish) of the planet's surface. And fusion which (once working) will provide free power almost forever. The big companies of the world probably would try to stifle the development of these alternatives...until fossil fuel reseves become so low that they dont have a choice. Sure we have fracking now (BTW, why does everyone complain about fracking? There may be a chance of eco disaster, but nobody points out that you basically have the most valueable material on earth under your town, and the jobs that mining it would create) but that will run out as well. Once there is no more oil (or at least not enough) they will probably be some of the first to change. Or they will fail entirely. Either way. -

Your mediocre skills are better than mine. Both logos are good, and the new bridge looks great. Quick question-what aspect will change if a different bridge is used? As in what does the bridge do? -
[WIP] Voice Commander - Real captains use their voice

I think the only thing I would be saying would be "Throttle up to maximum, IGNITE ALL ENGINES-WHEEEEEE!!!" -

Can we have a bridge with an aircraft carrier type deck attached? I like the idea of a space fighter/carrier...thing. -
What would you build if lag didnt exist?
randomness5555 replied to Rus-Evo's topic in KSP1 Discussion
A supership, capeable of putting a space station into orbit around every planet and a permenant base on every planet in one flight. Then, a working Druna Skass from naval ops. -

Feedback eh? Well the idea of having one 'frame' (the body section) and attaching different varients of parts sounds damn epic to me. KEEP THE HOMEWORLD STYLE, HOMEWORLD IS BEST SPACE RTS EVER...Well homeworld 2 anyway, homeworld 1's camera controls sucked. A few questions- 1: Is the MAC cannon going to work? 2: If lazor mod will be required, will we get sunbeam turrets? Because (again with homeworld) those ion beams could be fun 3: Can we have different kinds of dropship? I was thinking maybe have a crew version with good capacity, a planetary invasion one that can hit the ground at really high speed and maybe one like the infiltrator frigates in homeworld 2 that release these little pods with claws to board other ships-now we have the claw you could integrate that into it -
Dude-if this turns into a homeworld mod, I'm so in-in fact I'm in already. This looks like it's gonna be great!

This is seriously awsome. The orbital launch pad was something I even put a request out for someone to make, and the rover proving ground is a genius idea, there's nowhere good on kerbal to test rovers. I have two questions however-1, do the launchpads work? The ones with kerbtown have been broken for some time and 2, are you trying to make this into a full release? Because even with the fairly basic textures I will get this the moment it's out on release.

Moar Kerbal Easter Eggs!!! (not a spoiler)

I think jeb is off his sell by date -
Ferram adds space station parts.... >.< Ferram adds realistic (or at least far better) aerodynamics You are probably thinking of Fustek Also, Kerthane? Rly? (It's spelt Kethane)

KRF Truck Racing League
randomness5555 replied to GROOV3ST3R's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Aww man I'm out. There's no chance of getting my truck through the heavy crash testing, it's too heavy and fragile, and I can't re-design it. Doesn't mean I wont keep an eye on this anyway, I have my own idea for a type of race to host... -

I should mention breifly that the spoiler buttons dont show for me, so I can't read the rules. I should ask about steering limits-I noticed the modpack made them a thing (or is that stock?) either way, are there limits on steering angles for the wheels? Weight has increased to 24 tons Alright, this is the newest version, It was ok on length and height before but I had to widen it. (I should mention it now looks a little different than it does here-the rear two fuel tanks while looking good blew up on the ground under any turning, so they are no longer there, and the engine casing is a different shape, along with various struts) The trailer can turn or detach Engine: With air cooler (The round thing on top), because of this it's casing is fairly open And crash test result after running into a spotlight at about 22m/s -He's alive, so I guess that counts? I mean that is the point of saftey features. Okedoke, if anything else needs changing let me know. -
(Beta) Sonic Hero's Egg Fleet Ship replica
randomness5555 replied to Penguinhero's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
OOHH MAH GAWD We MUST built the whole fleet! Seriously, If you want help, the BWI hasn't had a good project in weeks, I'll help you build some more of those ships. (And an egg carrier. It's not as cool as the egg whale but some would say more iconic) -
Could Our Universe Just Be A Experiment?
randomness5555 replied to Sylandro's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yeah, now THAT I could believe. -
All of these problems showing why Skylon (should) be much better-there are no (or very few) parts that will need replacing and you dont need to constantly build new fuel tanks or refit equally huge rocket engines constantly. So in other words it will be cheap (Well, £200 million but you get 200 ish launches) and therefore, should do well.
-
My thought would be that missiles would be fairly worthless-a fast tracking machine gun turret could hit one before it got close. Recoil would be fun in space (Spinning in circles) and I don't think the wieght of armour would be a problem, as by this point you would probably have orbital factories and such. (Some) energy weapons work best (Or more importantly actually work at all) in a vacum, and with the likely energy output that they would probably have, lasers and such might actually feature as armaments.

KRF Truck Racing League
randomness5555 replied to GROOV3ST3R's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Alright, Presenting (Before it's probable re-design due to rule infringement that I missed) The Brown Earth MK2 (to go with the BWI's formula car, the Blue Sky) Front shot-dry weight (Presumably this meaning dry weight without RCS) is about 15 tons, also carrying the 44 ton example weight Break lights that come on while the brakes are on-I should also mention while you can't see it very well from here, it actually has two sets of the tiny landing gear to act as brakes on the trailer Indicators-Do I need to post the other side? Anyway they do exist on the other side. Joint between the trailer and truck-I really hope I don't have to take the trailer around the track, the turning circle is pants. Also, you may notice that the roof is different in the first screenshot-this was a modification that was made when I realised that the drivers head went through the roof if you put him in the chair. He now has lots (well some) head room.
