@Kurotenshi: i tested your altenate Briz-M. good things you did with the core, but i want to keep the RCS like the real one for attitudecontroll. i think i will build a combination of both... working on a payload for my Proton K ... -

WIP "the red stuff" (upperstages are not in scale with thé rockets, Blok D made by Sgt_Flyer): -
the engines are two O-10 momopropelnat engines inside a cubic strut. two engines for more thrust and better thrustvector and the cubic strut to get an attachmentpoint. the engines use the monopropelant inside the 6 spheretanks (together with the rcs).i used my Fregat upper stage for this so it stil lhas a probecore and batteries inside the tanks above the engines. the lander use normal LF/LOX Ant eninges.

i see now what you mean. it's so hard to find accurate infos about the Proton i would love to see a photo from the assembly of the second stage to the first stage, but cant find one but i would say: keep your rocket as it is now, it's a very good kerbal version and there are lot's of "realsitic" mods out here for soviet stuff. edit: and your rocket needs only some parts ... my Proton (without Blok D) has 275 ...

working on my Proton K with Blok D on the far left is teh ALV, made by Beale in his glorious Tantares stocl-alike. Soviet pack, go check it out! -
thank you, very good to know well ... for comparision, i did this: (using this little mod for teh screenshots of the crafts: http://kerbal.curseforge.com/ksp-mods/224287-kronal-vessel-viewer-kvv-exploded-ship-view) ALV with 27 ton payload, Proton K with Blok D and real life Proton with Salyut 1 edit: judging after this pic i made, i would say you could reduce the length of the third stagetank by a 1/2 to get the right size. neverthe less ... it's awesome to see how similar all three rockets look !

okay ... this is realy strange now. if you type the numbers into your editor ... but the size in gamefeels so different for me. i honestly don't know whats going on and why i get so confused now with your rocketpartsize edit: ehm Beale... without the engines and decouplers. only Block A + B + C ... your ALV has exactly the same size as my Proton.

dont be sorry for confusion, we try to solve a problem with numbers but yeah my text is a bit confusing, sry Beale the real diameter of the Proton-Core of the first stage, secondstage and thirdstage is 4.2 meters (total diameter of the first stage with sidetanks is 7.4m). to get a good kerbalscale, i used the 2.5m tanksize as base. this results in a 60% scale. this means, every part in the game has to be only 60% the size of the real world parts. taking the numbers from the reference, i got my numbers for the overall length of each stage as shown earlier. what i mean is this: i took my stock proton and used it as reference. with some work i got a really good stock replica with the 60% scale compared to the real word Proton. then i took your ALV and compared both rockets. your ALV is still longer then my stock Proton. BUT you used smaller numbers then me to get your size. thats the confusing point. and if the tank has a diameter of 2.5m, why is your thrid stage tank nearly double as long as the diameter? that would be over 5 meters then 3.4 for measurments: i use the modular grider segment wich is roughly 1.2m in length. (compared with the 1.25m tanks). stacking these grider segments gives me a possibilty to use it as some kind of tape measure.

hrmmm .. that is strange, very strange. i see that you used the 60% scale to get the numbers but i've got different ... my numbers (overall length of tank with engines): Stage 1: 12.72m Stage 2: 8.4m Stage 3: 3.4m as you can see, our third stage is the same, but the numbers get different for the rest. i used this pages has reference (and compared it with others too) -> click me for juice <- so the diameter of the Proton core is 4.2, with 60% scale it goes down to 2,52 ... perfect for the 2,5m tanksize. scaleing down the rest of the numbers goes the smae way and i got the number shown above. which source did you use beale? and more important: i messeaured your tanksize ingame of your ALV and i noticed that every tank is too long... did you made a mistake maybe? even if i use your numbers, the tank size is still wrong. i can't understand how you got your tanklength in the game on the other hand, it's a good example for kerbal engeniering: in need of bigger rockets - they made BIG rockets and your ALV looks so awesome with proc.-fairings

very nice picture of a proton with the Zond i used my experience with the Proton to draw the tanksize into your picture. i'm not really sure about the enginemounting of the second stage, but i kmnow the thirdstage fairing. i hope this helps green: fairing, shrouds, adapters yellow: tanksize i think i will rewwork my Proton to get a better scale

so now a review of the Proton: game is a vanilla KSP without NEAR or FAR, no mechjeb, only KER for building the rocket. piloting manuel first imrpessions of the rocket are good. textures are looking good, compared with the orignal tanktextures, the ALV seems more polished and fresh, but still has a stock feeling. The Size: dude your Proton is loooong but i think you did a mistake with the size of the third stage tank. it should only half as long as you have. i know the pictures i showed you some pages here ago are missleading, because of the enginefairings. the first stage .. hrm ... not sure, together with the rest of your ALV it looks good, but if you are going to shorten your third stage, then i would reduce the length of the first stage about the size of a X200-8 fueltank (smallest 2.5m tank in length). engines, your eninges are very powerfull and it's easy to lift up to 27tons to a low kerbin orbit. i was nicely surprised about the power of the secondstage. third stage .... well verniers are not working and attitude controll really depends on your SAS ... i really hope that you can add working verniers somehow because that would add a very special candy to your rocket ! last thing about your engines: they are not producing electricity like most of teh stock engines. people will need lots of batterys to get to orbit with SAS on. effects: interstage grids are awesome and FX are already mentioned. about the wobble: yip, wrong nodes, with out reinforcemnt of some king it will be very hard to steer your ALV overall: verywell done Beale. you did a great job on your first own lifter. a comparison of your ALV and my Stock Proton: edit: narf, best way to get the right size of everything is just to sacle down the original Proton.
