  1. nice work on your Orion. Yes, Fairings can be a pain in the a**, i know this. I wait for the 1.0 fairings too ,relly curious in how they will work. But with some experience, good looking and working stock fairings with moderate partcount are possible. so you have the ATV service module. not sure how to improve it, because i used the original service module for my Orion with the more complex RCS layout here a picture of my current NASA mission architechture:
  2. why not offering both textures: red star and a dish with nothing on it? so you can choose what you want...
  3. so it's a Block 1b then? uh strange because the pictures i used as reference were labled as Block 2 the Orion MK II is based on some pictures i found of an old Orion with larger service module to work in moon orbit (Ares V launch etc with old LSAM ...). you you can say it's a kerbalized real design the Mun misison is designed to be an apollo-style mission
  4. awww thats sad. well i have to wait i guess and i think i will add some RCS ports to the EUS ... hrm ...
  5. perfected the SLS interstage ring, the EUS can fire trough the ring with no probelms.
  6. yeah i noticed the partcount ... around 500 for the smaller ones and upt to 1000 for teh big ones ... the look of the rockets and payloads are very accurate and awesome. flying too (besides the big lag for me). and i saw many things, which can be improved: reduced partcounts for fairings, deorbit motors for upper stages. balancing thrust and fuel for the lifterrockets, using a decoupler for the payloads so the fuel would be not drained by the upperstage, maybe a working interstagering like on my SLS keep the good work Majorjim hrm ... maybe i should do a "modern" Mars Mission with SLS Block I & II, Orion and the Copernicus.
  7. okay ... downloaded teh craftfiles to chek them out maybe i will do a mission ... maybe ... x3
  8. woah Beale ... i havn't looked here foe a while and ... WOW i'm impressed with the IVA of teh Soyuz and teh work on the PPTS and Kliper ! very well done
  9. working on the special mission by DasValdez, using a slightly modified SLS Block II
  10. he means the N1-rocket, which exploded everytime shortly after liftoff
  11. normaly, the Energia has 4 Engines for its core and no payload fairing, because the payload would be carried sidemounted to orbit. The Energia M instead was a smaller version with only 2 strapon boosters, one mainengine and shorter core with fairings ... a russian Ariane 5 you can say
  12. wow ... thats one hell of a big rocket ... curious about your solution ... here a download link for my Energia M. -> click me gently <-
  13. i would love too, but sadly not enough time. working on some things in real life but i can share my Zenit Boosters and Energia M rocket if you want a full developed Energia with 4 Zenit should be able to lift 80 tons and more like teh real one. i tried a Buran too ... but it failed because of the gimbal problem and i did not want to add verniers during that time.
  14. the problem so far with the Buran shuttle: without a big gimbal range of the manengines of the Energia booster, the rocket will fall over just after launch. Buran's engines were fired for orbital insertion and not for launch. just look at some videos on youtube. when the Energia lifts off, it tumbles for some second heavly before the engiens adjusted. Thats why the launchpad was damged so badly after each of the two launches... mounting a payload on the side without adjusting the vector of thrust is a bad idea edit: but i love the Energia-Buran ... i'm corious in what you will build
  15. perfect, so i only had to add a fith engine *looks at the skipper's* to get the "5-engines cluster" points ... it also would improve performance.
  16. Hrmmm .. whats about the stock SLS engine with the four nozzles? does it count as "one" engine, because it's one part, or does it count as "four engines", cause of the four nozzles? my current stock SLS Block II with Orion Block II and generic two stage lander. i would just have to modifiy it a bit to meet most of teh requirments of this challange ... hrm ....
  17. Question: i wont get points if the orion has 3 or less crewcapaticity? same for Altair? And what about using SLS rockets?
  18. wow Woopert, these PDF's are very helpfull. so i have the "old" EUS with the single cylinder, instead of th two seperated tanks. i already had that configuration, but droped it in favor of partcount. well, time to get it back. (and it looks more awsome) i have an other question: th EUS boosts the mission to the Moon, will it do the braking burn too? i have read that the Orion will do the brakingburn, like Apollo CSM during the old days. So my Orion has the "larger" service module.
  19. okay, removed the fifth engine on the core. -so only 4 engines for the EUS? check -space tape the hell out of it? check -awesome looking interstage seperation? check -LSAM? later... next on the to-do list: reworking the RCS on the EUS. some pictures:
  20. so, worked on the second stage of the SLS Block II and added the fifth core engine. currently only 281 Parts on the launchpad. lander is a generic two stage lander. LSAM would blow the partcount trough the roof
  21. Has NASA decided on how the EUs of the SLS Block II will look like? are they using the two J-2X engines? or four RL-10 ?
  22. depends on the reference pictures. on some the SRB's are thicker, on some they have the size like in KSP. but i think i wil lrework the second stage and add the fifth engine for the maincore
