  1. reason for the first-secondstage wobble: the 1.25 to 2.5 adapter is wobbly and squischy like hell. this part is troublesome since it's introduction but i found a good work around... on my proton i did this: frist i used an I-Beam to attach the firststage tank to the second stage, then i placed at the edge the cubic struts for reinforcement, then i pulled the firststage away, removed the I-Beam, added the 1,25-2,5m adapter and put the firststage underneath the adapter. the struts now have a solid physical connection between first and second stage. this connection is very solid. edit: this is still my 0.25 version of teh Proton. Ideas for the 0.9Beta improvments are in work but this reinforcement works nevertheless
  2. about the balancing issues of the Proton-redux: every russian/soviet/ukranian(...) rocket was/is slightly overpowered on liftoff compared to european or murrican counterparts. but yes 3000 on liftoff (for 20 tons) is overkill. why not aiming for something like this with a 21 ton payload and dV budget of 4500 m/s to 4700 m/s to reach a stable 75 x 75 kilometer orbit: first stage: TWR of 1.6 to 1.7 thrust ?? second stage: TWR of 1.4 to 1.6 thrust ?? thrist stage: thrust of ~300 for orbital insertion (similar to the real deal) i got these numbers after watching some KSP streams on KSP TV (mostly with Das Valdez, awesome guy). The "normal" two stage rocket for KSP should have ~ 4.500 m/s dV, frist stage TWR of ~ 1.7 and secodn stage TWR of ~1.5. This is pretty good and teh rocket roars to sky fast, but not to fast. So this could be used as a calculationbase for the new Proton. about engine weight: just go with 1.25 to 1.5 tons PER big nozzle. wich means the second stage engine could have a weight between 5 and 6 tons. why such numbers? i just compared it with the stock LVT 30 and 45. so one vissible engine of teh Proton which consists of a nozzle, turbopump and plumbing weights should be similar to the weight of the visual similar-sized stock counterparts.
  3. tried the Roscomos rockets today ... very nice looking, but the Proton is very Wobbly ... and i dont know why, but the fairings are generating lift to the side and SAS has a hard tiem fighting it =/
  4. wow, Kommitz nice work so far with your nulcear rockets time to build a long range explroer to Eeloo with your engines
  5. after some (or some more) days of doing nothing in KSP, i slightly redesigned the Orion
  6. yeah the Proton thrid stage ... i told you months ago that i could be half the length when you reduce the length of teh tank, it rely looks more like teh real life Proton. a white repaint? same paintjob like on the R-7 ? if yes, then do it !
  7. hey Beale, i have to say "thanks" to you, because i ordered the Soyuz manual book today as my personal christmas present can'T wait to hold it in my hands with all the jucy Soyuz stuff inside
  8. @ Nik_601 yip, thats an Orion. intersting approach on the capsule and service module. whats the partcount? my Orion:
  9. to make some things clear: ULA IV .. .you mean the United Launch Alliance Iv ... which means in this case the Delta IV heavy rocket. for this Orion testflight, the Delta IV was used because the SLS is not ready at the moment. if teh SLS were avaliable, Orion EFT 1 were flown on a SLS the Delta IV heavy IS NOT PART of the SLS programm. it's a normal commercial heavy lifting rocket just uswed for this cause no other american rocket was suitable for this mission. second thing, besides your intersting approach on the Delta IV, your size of the Orionmockup is complety wrong. it should have the same diameter then the orange tanks to match your realism. and Orion was not an unmanned probe to test some things, it was the real full Orion capsule, just piloted by computer without humans to test the influence of the radiation bellt to teh systems and the high energy reentry.
  10. so teh real Orion EFT1 was a full success .. time to dust of my version and to change some designelemnts to get e better look... for comparision: old: new: edit: worked on the RCS
  11. hey beale , long time not seen. just cheking out your new updated stuff ... and i have to say: AWESOME R-7 ! reallyl ike how this pack is developing
  12. Duna-Ike-Explorer Mission (DIE) was my first interplanetary mission ever ... and huge success
  13. neat little hoppers. reminds me of the "Orca's" from C&C
  14. so you have a drift in your rocket too? i have this problem with my replicas as well. they tend to spin on gravity turn slightly or drift to one side and SAS and engine gimbal is fighting like hell. even completly rebuilding and caring for symetry do not help completly. best example: my proton third stage, it's tiny, haw lot of torgue BUT IT DRIFTS with SAS on ... frustrating. oh and SAS ist not stable anymore. just give your rocket a slight poke and it starts to wobble... only timewarp fixes this completly i have the feeling that with 0.25, squad have broken some things. in 0.24 i don't have and of these troubles... nevertheless a very awesome rocket
  15. currently working on a stock summary of soviet/russian/ukrainian launchers. pic already posted in the WIP thread
  16. my rocketsense is tingling... R7 next? great Beale just ask if you need help
