@GoldForest oh don’t get me wrong, I agree with your argument 100%. I just didn’t think your counter example was completely accurate. I just measured a piece of notebook paper, its .003” (.0762mm) thick. You can easily feel and see the edge of the paper on a table top. But would I notice movement of the paper relative to the plane of the table? Ehhhh…. Maybe? Depends on shadows and such. Do we need or want such level of detailed modeled on the game for the fit of parts? Absolutely not. Waste of resources. Do we need this level of accuracy when calculating orbits? Absolutely yes. edit 1: @GoldForest ahhhhh I thought we had something.

Sorry GF, I gotta say something here as a professional machinist. It is very common, by sight and or touch, to be able to differentiate different sizes/placements of things by as little as .0005” (.0127mm). I do this everyday. I look at a part, I see something on the piece, I touch it, yup there’s a half a thousandths step there, and THEN I go grab a measuring device to see what the exact measurement is to make adjustments. It really is situational though. If you’re lining up construction lumber, you’ll be hard pressed to not call a 1/32” step even and deal with it. But freshly machined steel, yeah .0127mm bumps stand out like a sore thumb. It’s not unreasonable to expect a rocket ship to have fit tolerances of +/- .075mm. But all that said, having submil tolerances for the parts in game is absurd. We don’t need tolerances. It’s a fictional world. If something is said to be 3m across, then it’s exactly 3.0000000000m across. And all other mating pieces are the same size, so they’ll fit perfectly every time.

That’s been around for quite a while, but it wasn’t always supported in all browsers. I think it’s been a year or so, maybe longer that I’ve been seeing it on mobile. It’s been on my desktop for a long time, and I’ve come to semi rely on it at times. But that said, it can be flaky at times, only remembering partial posts, or posts from weeks ago that you never posted. Or as you say, it’ll remember the post you just actually posted, and you’ll have to clear it. TLDR: it’s not new, but does act odd at times.

Simple low cost lander mission to Europa.

Well there’s your answer. Now back to the discussion of the real life mission… -
Simple low cost lander mission to Europa.

What’s stopping you? I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t pick an analogous moon/planet in game, or mod one in, build a similar craft and send it on its way. -
We’ll, I guess it makes sense if they think the 24th is in early February, since the game was supposed to come out in 2020 initially.

How To Safely Contain a Literal Ton Of Antimatter.....
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Might be doable. Enclose said ship in a permanent warp bubble. Since you can make warp bubbles go very fast, you should be able to control them very slowly too. Then, for atmospheric flight, poke a tiny hole in the rear of the bubble, and through magnetic lensing, mix a tiny steam of atmospheric matter with your antimatter fuel source and have your zero mass warp bubble make pbbbbbbbbbsstststststs fart noises across the sky like a nuclear balloon. -

About 4 years ago I was working a really funky shift, 4pm-2am. I worked in the suburbs and lived on a farm, so my commute would take my through the rural areas at night when the deer were most active on a country ‘highway’ doing about 70mph. Over the course of about 10 months I hit one deer with a minor abrasion to the headlight, was hit by two deer on different occasions, leaving small dents in both rear quarter panels, and ran over one snapping turtle. That one took my bumper clean off and cosmetic damage to the undercarriage as I went over him. I got of out the car, stared to walk I’ve to him, he spun around, hissed loudly at me and sprinted off into the trees. I’m lucky I got him square on, if I had hit him with a tire I might of flipped the car. My old German shepherd hated school buses. She broke her line once and was able to catch it and started attacking the tire. -

It’d be nice if there existed, for the last 12 years or so, some sort of message board that the devs and CM’s set up so people could communicate such messages with them.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

If you can safely avoid hitting a small animal like a dog without causing a wreck with other cars, then do so. But if the attempt to avoid the animal will cause you to hit another car or get hit yourself, then sorry doggy, you’re getting run over. .That’s a small animal. I don’t know about your local, but some places have big animals. Deer, moose, bear, camel, kangaroo, elephant, etc. Those animals can easily kill people in a vehicle if they are hit at highway speed. So in this case, let’s hope the people behind you are also paying attention when you slam on the brakes. Small animal: try not to hit, but it’s acceptable to do so if no other choice. Big animal: Do your best to not hit these at speed. 200kg of meat entering the passenger compartment at 100kph is usually far worse than getting rear ended. -
Yes, it was offered to early adopters who had purchase the game prior to it being offered on steam (March 20, 2013?) It wasn’t a promotion or anything, it was more like a development studio not having had a lawyer read all the fine print of the sales agreement. That agreement changed for purchases after that date. And the topic has been a flashpoint of major arguments and forum flare up’s ever since. The last thing we need is somebody overly vocal saying XYZ without any foundation, and a section of the of the community to latch onto that statement, and try to maliciously use that statement later. Launch is whenever the studio making the game says it is.

Then you get exactly the amount of energy as converting that small amount of antimatter. You can’t mix antimatter and matter without getting a complete 100% conversion of mass to energy. It’s not an octane booster. It’s not some chemical or element you can mix with anything. It’s antimatter. It’s the opposite of matter. There’s nothing special about antimatter. It’s not magic. It’s just stuff, but different. You are basically saying you want to take anti-basketballs and throw them into a big tank of gasoline to make the gasoline have more oomph. But it doesn’t work like that. And you can’t have a substance that has the same energy density as antimatter, because that’s just antimatter. It’s 100% efficient. Anything that would be the same would have to also be 100% Efficient. And that _only_ comes from an anti matter / matter reaction. And all of this is completely ignoring your misuse (And my subsequent misuse) of the term energy density. Anti matter doesn’t have energy density. Matter doesn’t have energy density. It has mass. Materials undergoing a process have energy density. A material doing XYZ will yield so many joules per kilogram. A lump of uranium on my coffee table isn’t doing anything except for losing my security deposit. A lump of uranium on my coffee table undergoing fission is making the news. It’s how the energy is extracted is what gives a material its energy density.

Oh. I was talking about Manley with the security thing. Meh. Oh well.

Early access is just another form of open beta. The official release will be when it leaves early access. Hotels, restaurants, casinos all do the same thing. The have a cold open where the facility is mostly functional, but they’re still working on ironing out all the issues. Then, later when it’s ready to go, the have the grand opening. This is very common in the service industry. I’ve never seen a game have as much of a marketing campaign before they went into early access as KSP2 has. Do you have a source saying DLC’s will be free of charge? Cause that’s what you’re saying…..

Conversation related to marketing should be taken here:

And yet, here you are. I’d say that’s a very successful marketing campaign. We have the forums here. Reddit. The YouTube channel. Twitter. TikTok. Instagram. Facebook. All those sites are abuzz with talk of the upcoming game. What do want them to do? Waste money that could be otherwise be spent on production on Tv ads? Oh yes, full page spreads in Nintendo Power might work. Just because you haven’t seen a billboard along the I430 in Nebraskastan doesn’t mean they don’t have a marketing program going. The fact you’re here talking about it proves the point their marketing program worked on you.

He’s also known for slipping up on information security. There was that one live stream where he accidentally revealed his YouTube account password, and the resulting spammers that took over cost him about half his viewers. So yeah, maybe it’s true. But all the better, cause it means there’s a playable version, A select group of players have gotten their hands on it, and it should only help us out as the release date approaches.

That could be anything. Dirt. Water. A pile of chairs. Anti matter is the same thing as matter, but…. The opposite. The majority of antimatter will only release energy when it meets matter. Of course stuff like anti-dynamite will still explode if you light the anti fuse, but anti matter has no more energy density than matter does. The energy released by matter/antimatter interactions is purely dictated by E=mc^2. You take an anti-pencil and tap it with a pencil it will release the same amount of energy if you hit an anti rock and rock together if they have same mass as the pencils. Therefore, a fuel with the energy density of antimatter is simply…. Matter. Of any type.

It wasn’t just creators. It was community members they could get to Seattle on the cheap. @Snark asked the forums for questions they’re wanted asked of Nate when they sat down for an interview/chat. I don’t know if they were NDA’d for that, but it wouldn’t make sense if they were for public interviews, and it was a different studio completely. I would easily assume any future interactions with the studios would have their own NDA’s that are handled by each situation they cover. Overlapping threads of hype have also been merged.
